Chapter 1

2 min read616 words

I have an older sister who is only a year older than me.

Our father holds the title of Earl, and we are a fairly wealthy family, but for the most part, the clothes I wore and the toys I played with were mostly hand-me-downs from my sister.

I don’t really have any complaints about that.

In fact, I tend to be frugal and prefer using my sister’s old things.

“This, I’m tired of it.”

“This, I don’t need anymore.”

“This, it’s broken, so I’m throwing it away.”

Despite this, my sister Isabella usually manages to get whatever she wants.

Father, who dotes on Isabella, who resembles our late mother, is very indulgent with her.

However, Isabella is fickle and careless with her things, often getting new items only to discard or break them.

Seeing her actions, I felt it was wasteful and started fixing and using the things she had discarded or broken.

There were many toys and stationery items that could be used with just a little repair, and I found the process itself enjoyable and became engrossed in it.

Furthermore, our family has a long lineage of magicians, and Father is a well-known magician. I have been practicing magic since childhood and became fascinated with a regeneration spell described in an old magic book.

If I could master this spell, I could fix anything—this dream-like magic captivated me. I practiced diligently on my own and successfully learned the regeneration spell.

Even though he has passed away, my grandfather, who was also known as a great sage, was very surprised that I had learned the regeneration spell. He said that only those with special talent could master it, and he had never seen anyone other than himself who could use it.

Therefore, most of the things around me are hand-me-downs from my sister or things she has discarded or broken.

Of course, I do this willingly, so as I mentioned at the beginning, I have no complaints.

However—

“Again, you’re taking my things without permission. You’re such a troublesome little sister…”

At some point, whenever my sister saw me fixing and using her things, she would always say this. I asked her if she wanted the fixed items back, but she replied, “I’m tired of them, so I don’t need them anymore,” and didn’t particularly want them returned. So, even though I didn’t feel good about it, I decided to let it go.

But, I didn’t know at the time that Isabella was telling everyone around her that “my sister takes everything from me.”

Then, a decisive event occurred.

“Hey, Sylvia. Thinking about it, I don’t like living in the countryside. …And, I’m tired of the Margrave’s face too.”

She said she was tired of her fiancé, the young Margrave Fernando, and wanted to break off the engagement.

Furthermore—

“So, you should marry him instead. Isn’t that good? You like getting my things, don’t you?”

My sister suddenly said something outrageous. Yes, I did fix and use many things she had discarded, but this is a completely different matter, isn’t it? Moreover, he is the Margrave Fernando. The idea is absurd.

No matter how you look at it, it’s impossible to break off an engagement just because you’re tired of living in the countryside, and even more so, it’s out of the question for me, her younger sister, to take her place.

However, if the engagement with the Margrave Fernando were to be broken, it would cause trouble for both families.

I was very troubled about what to do—

I wrote this with the concept of a protagonist who takes everything from her sister.
