Sweat slipped into his eyes and blurred his vision.

He hadn’t been put in such a miserable situation in a long time.

The room was dark. His hair hung in front of his field of view. All he could see were the strands of his own hair crusted together with dried blood.

Li Xiao’s body was stained red. He was bound in several layers of twine, like a zongzi,1 and was thrown randomly to the corner of the small room.

The last time he had been this humiliated was in a certain fighting ring. He remembered a large, dirty, and smelly foot slamming his face down into the ground.

That fighting ring had been much more straight forward than this Battle Royale prison. There hadn’t been any fancy rules.

Either live or die—that was it.

And he was always the last one standing.

Heavy footsteps resounded and a pair of brown leather boots appeared in front of him. The boots looked old and scuffed—the entire surface was falling apart, but it was clear to see that they had once been swanky and expensive.

“Why did you come back?” A gentle, low voice asked from up above.

“Because I wanted to,” Li Xiao’s lips curled into a disturbing smile. A few strands of his pitch-black hair fell forward, covering his hostile glare.

“I want the truth” The man was patient. His tone was calm and unrushed, “Don’t tell me, it’s for that woman.”

“I’ve already found it,” Li Xiao said cryptically. “You can’t kill me, Gao Qiu.”

Gao Qiu squinted his eyes. Laying his palm over Li Xiao’s head, he fisted his hand in Li Xiao’s hair and hoisted him up with one hand.

Li Xiao’s head dangled at a weird angle. It bore the entire weight of his body, yet there was no pain within his expression. His eyes were wide open and bloodshot while his mouth was still curved in that eerie smile. It was a hideous sight to behold.

“Hmph.” The man released his hand and threw him against the floor. Li Xiao’s head knocked heavily against the concrete, leaving a bloody imprint. “There are many people who can kill you right now. I don’t have to do it myself.”

On the other side, Xiang Chen didn’t resist unnecessarily. He let Xiao Yang drag him into a separate room that had a simple computer inside.

Just yesterday, he had been here relaying surveillance footage to them and had secretly discovered the prison blueprints.

Compared to Li Xiao, he was in a much better situation. Xiao Yang had forced fed him some kind of medicine. And when every muscle in his body began to feel weak and loose, Xiao Yang untied him.

“Did you really believe that there were seven safe exits out of this prison?” Xiao Yang squinted down at him. There was both sympathy and ridicule in his gaze.

“No, I never thought that every path would lead out, but at least we can rule that one out,” Xiang Chen remarked. “You were obviously fighting with Zhao Zixun earlier, why were you guys suddenly blocking the exit of the maze?”

Xiao Yang raised a brow and bluffed, “Di Qing and Lu Ye arrived, so we ran. We just happened to be at the right place at the right time to catch the three of you hapless runaways.”

—Lies. Xiang Chen could immediately tell.

They had obviously come prepared. Three of them had launched a sneak attack on Li Xiao, while the Gu Ze was left to deal with the two weakest links.

But their escape had been spontaneous and unplanned. How did these guys find out? This oversight had to be eradicated, otherwise, they would have their hands tied at every turn.

“Stop with the nonsense and tell me the truth. I can get you what you want, but if you don’t tell me—” Xiang Chen advised calmly.

Xiao Yang laughed. This time he didn’t try to stifle his voice; the laughter rang loud and clear.

After a beat, he abruptly stopped laughing. With cold, narrowed eyes, he bit out, “Xiang Chen, you think you’re so clever, don’t you—sending us that static photo…?”

“But I bet you didn’t know that there’s a surveillance camera in this room, facing this monitor. From switching the surveillance footage to stealing the blueprints… every move you made yesterday was recorded.”

“I get it,” Xiang Chen nodded, “So you were in control of the surveillance this whole time.”

“Mm… I will say though, I was impressed ‘17’. Your abilities went far beyond our expectations. You should be glad we discovered your talent, or else… you wouldn’t be sitting here talking to me like this.” Xiao Yang smiled coldly; his gaze seemed distant.

“Xiao Yang, I am capable of much more—beyond your wildest imagination—including… getting anyone out of prison.” Xiang Chen said.

He wanted to see if Xiao Yang would be swayed by these words.

Xiao Yang shook his head. “No need. I will win and reap my half of the rewards.”

“You should be careful of Gao Qiu. He is not a simple character…”

“The divide and conquer strategy won’t work on me.” Xiao Yang leaned back and closed his eyes, “Get a move on it. I want a complete prison log with everyone’s numbers.”
