Di Qing… Di Qing…

She felt like a recalcitrant child whenever she was with him. Her reasoning would slip away, her resistance… even her sense of self would be thrown to the wind. All she could do was surrender to him and cling on.

He didn’t even have to say a single word.

The aftermath of her climax had not yet subsided. Bai Zhi leaned weakly into the circle of Di Qing’s embrace. She grasped his shirt and listened to his strong, steady heartbeat.

His arms rested on her waist. She could feel his heat seeping into her. It made her hyper-aware of their every point of contact.

“This isn’t the first game,” Di Qing broke the silence.

His revelations always came as a surprise. Bai Zhi whipped her head up in astonishment. He seemed to be looking off into the distance. From her position, she could only see his chin. She sat up quickly to get a better view of his expression.

“Wh-what do you mean?”

Di Qing took in her confusion and gave a low chuckle, “Ten years ago, there was a different group of people here at the prison. Their original goal was to evade an official sentence.”

His voice was quiet. She had to listen very closely in order to hear what he had to say.

“And then?” She had a feeling that what came next could be an important clue.

“And then nothing.” Di Qing hugged her to himself. He nuzzled his face against the side of her neck. “In the best-case scenario, it’s possible that three people made it out alive. However, no one has ever heard from them since the last game.”

“Is the person you are looking for… one of the three people?”

“Mm.”

All of a sudden, words from several days ago resurfaced in her memories. Gu Ze had told her that Ye Xiao had the most knowledge of this place. Maybe there’s some truth to those words. She had the urge to spill everything she knew to Di Qing but somehow managed to swallow the words back at the very last minute.

She wasn’t clear on their respective motives. The tension was already high. One misstep could start an all-out war; she couldn’t afford that.

“What’s wrong?” Di Qing was extremely perceptive of her emotional fluctuations.

“Nothing…” She shook her head, “Why do you think they would come back?”

“The previous winners were desperate gamblers and greedy criminals. They wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation of the monetary reward of this second round. They wouldn’t have been here in the first place if that weren’t the case. I am certain they’d find any way they can to crawl back in here.” He sneered.

Bai Zhi paused for a second before carefully asking, “What will you do after you find them? Kill?”

“I’ll make them talk and then kill them,” Di Qing replied matter-of-factly. There wasn’t any inflection or emotion in his voice.

Her body reacted intensely to his chilling words. A tremor rocked through her, but she didn’t know whether it was out of fear or something else…

One corner of Di Qing’s lips raised into a condescending smile. Then he leaned down to suck her white, swan-like neck.

Bai Zhi tilted her head to give him better access. Wrapping her arms around his waist, she timidly asked, “… Then… then, what happens… after your revenge?”

After a momentary pause, he replied, “We’ll go back to how we lived before, of course.”

She didn’t know what his life was like in the past, but there was something off about his tone as he said those words—was it weariness and tedium? He had deliberately tried to hide it, so she couldn’t say for certain.

Eventually, she gave up trying to decipher his thoughts. She closed her eyes and faced the vast field of darkness inside her. Cradling his cheeks with her hands, she pressed her soft lips against his.

The moment their lips touched, a low growl rumbled up from his chest. Almost immediately, he took back the initiative and pushed her down onto the sofa. His tongue violently ravaged her mouth…

Ye Xiao was standing in the hallway outside the Main Control Room just as Bai Zhi was leaving. Their eyes met, and she started. She hadn’t expected anyone to be there.

Ye Xiao was wearing his white lab coat. His posture was stiff and straight. The door of the infirmary was closed behind him; he seemed to have been standing there for a long time. There was a distant look in his eyes.

“Doctor Ye, why are you standing out here?” She just so happen to have something she wanted to confirm with him.

“Ye Xiao’s eyes landed on a spot on her neck. It was a love bite Di Qing had left just a moment ago. The red mark was very conspicuous against her pale neck.

Self-conscious, Bai Zhi tried to pull her collar together.”

“Li Xiao is in the infirmary. He refuses to take any medicine. You go have a word with him. I have an urgent matter to deal with over there.” Ye Xiao looked up, and their gazes met once more.

“Is he… is he alone inside?” She glanced at the closed infirmary door with some trepidation. She thought back to her previous experience in that infirmary room—what they did on the hospital bed… Then there was that time when he was seriously injured and tied up but still managed to ambush Zheng Ze in the empty warehouse. What if he’s…

“Yes, but I won’t be long.” Ye Xiao reassured her.

Bai Zhi nodded, “ Doctor Ye… You— you have to come back quickly.”
