Lin Zidong saw that although Gui Jian Shan's attack had been dodged, it had blocked his path forward. Already surrounded, the three people had trapped him in the middle, leaving no way out. With no hope left, Lin Zidong smiled and said, "You traitors of the Hundred Tribes of the Divine Remnant, do you think no one knows what you've done? Heh!"
"What does it matter if anyone knows? Do you think you can walk out of the Divine Remnant Mountains alive?" A young man standing behind Lin Zidong mocked.
"If I can't get out, neither can all of you!" Lin Zidong shouted hoarsely. Without waiting for the three people to react, a half-section of a "tree trunk" suddenly emerged from the ground.
Bu Li had been observing the surroundings while paying attention to the faint glow on Lin Zidong's right arm, trying to figure out what kind of spell it was. Even though Bu Li was the king of the mountains, he hadn't noticed anything unusual. The half-section of the "tree trunk" opened its long mouth, and a steel-like tongue pierced the foot of the young man behind Lin Zidong. Then the "tree trunk" bit down on the man's calf, and the sound of bone grinding against bone could be faintly heard even by Bu Li.
A pangolin? Bu Li recognized what Lin Zidong's second刻兽 (engraved beast) was. It wasn't one of those powerful large beasts but a common pangolin. Even the strongest pangolin was pitifully weak in both attack and defense, which is why the glow on Lin Zidong's arm had been so faint that the three people in the situation hadn't noticed it at all.
However, this ordinary engraved beast, summoned by the impure engraving technique of the Hundred Tribes of the Divine Remnant, unexpectedly inflicted a severe injury on a much stronger engraved warrior at a specific time and place.
Bu Li's eyes lit up! It was as if a meteor had streaked across the night sky. All along, Bu Li had thought of many tactics and corresponding engraved beasts. Only now did the fog in his mind clear. There were no strongest engraved beasts, only the most suitable ones!
Bu Li was somewhat dazed, watching the blood splatter as if it were nothing, his mind filled with all sorts of creative ideas about the path he would take in the future. When he decided to engrave the vine, Bu Li had subconsciously thought it suited him. Only now did he realize why!
While Bu Li was lost in thought, Gui Jian Shan and the other young man were startled and pounced. The other young man didn't even summon his engraved beast, instead brandishing a bright blade straight at Lin Zidong. Lin Zidong, who couldn't even fight one person, let alone two, managed to hold out for a few moves before being repeatedly stabbed. Blood gushed from his wounds, and his legs were severed, leaving him lying in a pool of blood.
"I will kill you!" The young man with the injured calf, his face twisted in ferocity, roared like a wild beast.
Gui Jian Shan and the other young man exchanged a glance and, as if sharing a telepathic connection, turned around simultaneously. The Hundred Flowers Snake and a large mountain rat viciously attacked their injured companion, even more fiercely than they had pursued Lin Zidong.
Without a single scream, a life that had been raging with ferocity a moment ago was crushed into powder. In front of the two engraved beasts, an unprepared engraved warrior, with only his flesh and blood, had no chance of resistance. Blood and flesh flew everywhere, half a body was clamped in the mouth of a snow wolf and swallowed, the scene was incredibly bloody.
"Ha ha ha ha..." Lin Zidong's laughter was疯狂而绝望 (mad and desperate), severely injured and already crippled. Both of his engraved beasts were dead, and his soul power was severely damaged. Seeing how ruthlessly Gui Jian Shan and the other young man had attacked their companion, he knew he had no chance of survival.
"I told you, none of you can all walk out of this mountain!" Lin Zidong said, a sense of intense satisfaction following his despair. In the face of life and death, fear was magnified, and at its peak, it turned into fearlessness. He laughed wildly, his voice hoarse and unrecognizable.
"A bunch of scum about to be exterminated, do you think injuring one person can change anything?" Gui Jian Shan said, glancing at his companion out of the corner of his eye. At this point, Lin Zidong posed no threat to Gui Jian Shan, but who knew if the companion would suddenly attack while he was relaxed.
Bu Li recalled Hu Wu's explanation of the mirages of all the people who could enter the Divine Remnant Mountains during the "Great Trial of the Remnant Tribes." The mirage of the person next to Gui Jian Shan flashed in his mind—Gao Qi. Bu Li didn't specifically remember which tribe he belonged to, but no matter what tribe, he was an enemy. His engraved beast was a rare mountain rat, already at the soul-entering stage. The mountain rat's characteristic was swift movement and the ability to hide its tracks. From the previous attack, it was clear that Gao Qi had hidden his true strength. However, the mountain rat's strength lay in appearing in groups; a single mountain rat wasn't particularly powerful. Bu Li wondered why Gao Qi had chosen a mountain rat as his engraved beast.
Understanding this, Gao Qi seemed to Bu Li like a sly and despicable person. Bu Li laughed self-deprecatingly, thinking that this was what it felt like to judge people by their appearance. He was really susceptible to psychological suggestions.
The new environment, new combat mode, and new combat methods made Bu Li feel a slight excitement.
Gao Qi stood behind Gui Jian Shan and said, "Let's move. We still need to hunt down others." It seemed Gao Qi didn't know what Gui Jian Shan was hesitating about.
Gui Jian Shan said, "You go ahead. I just used too much soul power and need to rest. Don't run into a tough opponent and run out of strength."
Gao Qi didn't comment, and Bu Li watched the strange situation intently. Companions were not companions, all seemed to be enemies. It was hard to understand how the Hate Mountain Sect could produce such a group of rabble and what they could accomplish.
With a flash, the mountain grass rustled as if blown by the wind. Gao Qi crouched low, moving through the grass like a large mountain rat. In a blur, Lin Zidong didn't even have time to scream before he died in a burst of blood, his body shattered into countless pieces, like a rain of blood. Gao Qi was already far away, and the entire process happened so quickly that even if Gui Jian Shan had wanted to intervene, he had no chance.
Only a left ear remained intact, falling into Gao Qi's hand.
"I took the last one, this one is yours." He threw the left ear to Gui Jian Shan.
