Chapter 3 of 19
Chapter 2 – Wildlings
9 min read2,221 words
It’s been three months since I arrived in this world. I had become a complete wildling.
I put mud all over my body to get rid of smells and insects, and since rats had eaten the goblin ears where I had left them, I wore the dried goblin ears around my neck like a necklace through thin wooden vines.
He uses an obsidian-like stone knife and a wooden stick with a blade pointed at the end as a staff that doubles as a spear.
As his level increased, so did his physical abilities, and he was able to catch wild animals with ease.
He used to cook the meat, but since it destroys vitamins, he now eats it raw and drinks fresh blood, often checking the sliced meat for parasites.
He is a complete wild man, smearing mud all over his body, dismembering animals with a stone knife, and eating the raw meat. His clothes are upgraded from a tree bark waistcoat to chewed and tanned animal skin.
I’ve been killing goblins for a while now, and my level has risen to 8.
Dried meat didn’t go well initially, but I found some hot pepper in the forest and tried rubbing it into the meat, which seemed to have a sterilizing effect, and I succeeded in making dried meat.
This hot pepper can also be used as a disinfectant. When you are on the move and looking for your prey, there are times when you can’t return to a safe base, and you are almost at the limit of sleepiness.
A few bites will wake you up. I always keep it in the hollow of my leather clothes because I can use it when I am dazed after an attack.
I hope this mysterious hole is not the remnants of a butt hole, but I believe in peppers’ sterilizing effect, so even a butt hole will do. Crisp.
My savings of dried meat and dried fruit are growing steadily, and I’m thinking of heading into town soon.
I can’t eat goblin meat because it has a pungent odor that stings like chemicals and an acrid taste that makes my tongue go numb.
Perhaps it was because my level had increased, or maybe it was because I lived in the wild for three months, but my senses had become unusually acute.
My senses have been strengthened, and I can now detect distant signs. I wondered if there was an additional skill for seeing signs, but the skill had not increased.
My ability to hide my presence has also improved considerably. All wild animals have a keen sense of intuition. If they don’t, they’ll eat you.
By repeatedly attacking the animals by surprise, I became much better at hiding my presence. However, no covert skills were added.
My current status looks like this.

Karate
Old school karate, huh? Can you display kanji characters? It’s a bit more complicated than the last time, but I think he’s already getting a bit bored. He’s a hell of a god.
As usual, I looked for traces of wildlife as I made my way to a place where fruit trees were growing in clusters.
Then I heard a gibbering sound. I’m killing them every time I see them, but where are these goblins coming from?
I can’t even level up anymore. I thought it would be too much trouble to fight them, so I should hide and let them pass.
I was thinking about that.
It was a voice that made me feel numb from the bottom of my stomach. The gibbering goblins stopped talking immediately and stood still with blue faces (actually green, but that’s just a metaphor).
I felt something coming towards me from the depths of the forest. The figure that emerged from the forest’s depths was a green warrior about 180 centimeters tall with a sturdy body.
He was armed with crude leather armor and a rusty longsword. He might have been a hobgoblin, a higher species of a goblin. I looked at him, trying to eliminate his presence.
Then, the hobgoblin suddenly swung his sword at the goblin.
“Gegyaa!”
“Gegggaa!”
“Guggee!”
With one swing, three goblins were crushed. The three goblins were turned into pieces of flesh in an extremely gruesome state.
The other goblins were shivering and unable to do anything. The hobgoblin indicated something and walked deeper into the forest.
The remaining goblins followed the hobgoblin.
I thought they were a higher species of a goblin, or at most a slightly trained human, but this was outrageous. Even though they were goblins, they had the strength to turn three bodies into pieces of meat with a single swing.
He had weapons and armor, even if they were battered. I wondered if I could fight him now and win.
Since I had only seen goblins as monsters, I had mistakenly thought that this forest was only for goblins.
I had to go through the forest to get to the town. Maybe some monsters are more potent than him or her.
I realized that I would have to raise my level and my food to reach the town safely. A part of me was somewhat optimistic because my life had stabilized, and I needed to pull myself together.
I needed to raise my level, but it might be too hard for a goblin to do so. I’ve killed fifty goblins since I last leveled up, but there’s no sign of leveling up.
Is it a specification that you don’t get any experience from killing small fry once you level up? Or is it merely that the amount of expertise required has become too large? Either way, I need to earn experience by defeating monsters other than goblins.
Move around, find a good spot, build a base, move around again, and repeat. We kept walking in the same direction, using the sun as our guide, but there were only goblins no matter where we went.
Is this a goblin paradise? It seems like a giant goblin empire has been created with goblin kings and the like with so many goblins.
However, other than the hobgoblins I’ve seen before, I haven’t seen any evolved goblins. I’ve been thinking about this based on my knowledge of romance novels.
There is plenty of food in this forest, and there are no monsters other than goblins. There is no sign of humans, except for hobgoblin equipment.
I guess there are few opportunities to level up, and since there is plenty of food, people don’t kill each other by fighting or cannibalism. There are no other monsters in the world. That’s why they don’t level up and don’t evolve.
Since there is plenty of food and they don’t have to worry about starvation, their numbers keep increasing. I guess that’s why this forest is full of ordinary goblins.
If this is the case, then the individual that evolved into a hobgoblin may have done so by killing an adventurer who happened to wander into the forest.
Let’s aim for the exit of the forest while avoiding the hobgoblins.
I wonder how many months it’s been since I was reincarnated in this world, and I’ve stopped counting how many days it’s been. Now, I miss civilization.
I wonder how much I’ve walked since then. I wonder how many goblins I’ve killed. My level had risen to ten.
I no longer made dried goblin ears, as they had become too much to carry around. I thought that killing this many would earn me the title of goblin killer, but apparently, there is no such system.
As I was walking along, looking for signs, as usual, I felt a presence more extensive than a goblin. For a moment, I thought it was a hobgoblin, but the way it moved was different.
It seemed to be walking in an amateurish manner. Could it be a person? I was so excited that I ignored other possibilities and started running.
As I ran through the forest with poor visibility and approached the sign I had detected, I was able to see the figure at a distance of about 20 meters.
It was a human woman putting grass in a basket. She had dull blond hair, brown eyes, and freckles and was not a pretty face, but she was human.
I was so happy to see her that I called out to her while running as fast as possible. I didn’t have the slightest concern about whether she could understand me or not. I was just happy that I had finally met someone.
“Hey!”
“Hey!”
The woman who looked like a village girl threw her basket and ran away from me with all her might as I approached her, jumping up and down with joy in my body.
I was mildly annoyed that she would be so rude to run away after seeing someone, but then I realized that I was now covered in mud.
I was now covered in mud, chewed and tanned animal skin, and a necklace of dried goblin ears around my neck.
It was too dangerous. I would have attacked him without question. He was utterly suspicious. I was so excited to find a human that I forgot that my appearance was utterly skeptical.
I hurriedly chased after the village girl.
The village girl’s legs were not that fast. It was a problematic forest to run in. I’m used to the forest. I’ll catch up with her soon.
I was optimistic, but I sensed a sign of trouble in the direction the village girl had fled. It was the hobgoblin. I threw away my pack and chased after her with all my might.
“No!”
“Guruaaah!”
The village girl’s scream and the hobgoblin’s yell echoed.
Damn, I didn’t make it in time. It’s a good thing that I’m not the only one who has a problem with this.
I was relieved to see that the hobgoblins hadn’t killed her, thanks to their ability to reproduce with other species. I was relieved, but I had to get the village girl back from the hobgoblin.
Fortunately, there was only one hobgoblin, and he didn’t seem to have any goblins under his command. I continued to run towards the hobgoblin, not slowing down at all.
As soon as the hobgoblin noticed my footsteps and turned to look at me, I thrust a flying knee kick at the hobgoblin’s ugly nose.
The hobgoblin was distracted by the human female, so I thrust my knee at it.
The hobgoblin, who had been distracted by the human female and hadn’t noticed until just before the attack, was struck by the flying knee kick and lost his balance.
“Aaah!”
The hobgoblin dropped the village girl he was carrying on his shoulder and managed to catch her before hitting the ground.
“Are you okay?”
“Oh no, goblin! I’ve never seen a goblin before! Somebody help me!”
“Who’s a goblin? Calm down, village girl, I may look a little different, but I’m human.”
“Yeah, well, I mean, a little bit. …… Are you human?”
“Village girl, you’re surprisingly calm in this situation.”
“No, I was so surprised by your outfit that I’ve calmed down or something.”
“I’m dressed like this, but I have to say, that’s a pretty harsh thing to say.”
Surprisingly, I was able to communicate with him. It seems that language cheats are standard equipment. It’s a rare thing for a god to be able to think about such things.
“Gugooooooo”
The hobgoblin was bleeding from the nose and snapped. I hit it with a lot of force, but it didn’t do much good. This is not good.
“Village girl, run somewhere safe, I’ll hold him off.”
” I’m not a village girl. My name is…”
” I don’t need that right now.”
” I’ll get someone from the village right away. Please don’t die, you new goblin.”
As she said this, the village girl ran. I’m not a new kind of goblin! Before I could say anything else, she disappeared into the forest.
“You’re a tactless hobgoblin when people are enjoying the interaction with the first villagers.”
“Gogaaaaahhhh.”
The language cheat doesn’t support the goblin language. I’m not sure what to make of this.
I want to run away so badly. It’s not good if you run out now and go to the village girl.
I’m not sure how tough she is, but she’s not even down after being hit by that accelerated knee kick. I’m not sure if there are any legendary holy swords around. I’m not sure what to make of it.
I should have gone after the village girl instead of having a leisurely conversation with her, but it would have been a hindrance if I had stayed near her in a panic.
Also, I guess I was more hungry for conversation than I thought. It had been a long time since I had a good conversation. It was like something was saved.
Before I realized it, loneliness had been eating away at my heart.
Even though it was a ticket to civilization, I was still naive enough to risk my life to fight for a village girl I had just met.
While I was thinking about such trivial things, Hobgob-san, wielding a longsword, attacked me with full of motivation to kill.
