Chapter 6

5 min read1,365 words

It's still Monday..... Yeah.

And a new review for “Please give me a meal, I’ll work!” Thank you, I’m so happy:::

“What’s this?”

Chiharu held the short bow up to her head that had been handed to her. Chihaya, on the other hand, was curiously pulling the string of the same short bow.

“You both have completed the basics of swordsmanship. Until your bodies are fully developed, you will continue with repetitive practice. I think it might get boring. So, why not try some archery and unarmed combat?”

It had been half a year since the twins started visiting the knight corps. Impressed by their remarkable progress, Harold suggested archery and unarmed combat.

Yeah, the more skills you have, the better. You can’t always have a weapon at hand. It’s definitely better to be able to do anything.

Seeing the small person nod vigorously, Chihaya also nodded.

Narrowing his eyes, Harold assigned a select group of young archers to instruct them. The knight corps commander, with a smile that threatened to burst into a tune, was observed with a suspicious glance by Dorfen.

“Isn’t that part of the training for apprentices?”

“What are you talking about? You’ve completed the forms and can perform strikes. So, why not try something else while you’re waiting to start formal swordsmanship?”

Harold said nonchalantly.

Starting with sword forms, then unarmed combat and archery. Probably, next would be staff and spear techniques. It takes two years to rotate through and choose a specialization. This is the training program for knight apprentices.

This old fox.

He’s definitely planning to have the twins go through the knight corps training program, disguised as additional skills. If the basics are solid, advanced techniques are easier. Moreover, the two are not averse to hard work. They’ll master it in no time.

Dorfen, despite his grimace, quietly observed.

Regardless of the knight corps commander’s intentions, gaining strength is a good thing. Especially considering Chiharu’s future, having as many ways to protect herself as possible is essential.

He focused his gaze on the twins drawing their bows.

A few months ago, Dorfen and the usual group questioned the small person about becoming an adventurer and learned the reason.

A divine message from the gods. It was unexpected.

“Why now... Can’t someone else do it?”

“It has to be me. I have to go myself.”

Comforting the half-crying bear, the small person stroked his beard.

“If we’re making a golden ring, Chiharu has to go herself. She should tell her brother and have the knight corps provide protection.”

“No, spare me. If it’s just me and my companions, we can fly. But if others come along, it limits our actions. Besides, I don’t want to be involved with the palace anymore. Let the king live happily with Fatima.”

The young girl declared with a serious look. Even Loemere was speechless at her words.

“But I’m going with you. Please tell the bees for me?”

“Me too. I’ve sworn to spend my life with her.”

Adris and Dorfen exchanged grins. The small person, seemingly unfazed, nodded.

“Well, two should be fine. So, could you ask Father and Loemere?”

“Ask?”

Nodding slightly, Chiharu looked up at Dragon.

“It will cost money, but I want a pilgrimage carriage. It’s pulled by monsters, so it can be heavier than usual. The design is important, so I want to order it custom. Is that okay?”

Without hesitation, Dragon nodded.

“Of course! I’ll make a carriage that can withstand any attack!”

While Dragon enthusiastically explained, Chiharu turned to Loemere with a request.

“I want you to install magical devices in the carriage.”

“Magical devices?”

In the Frontier, where magic power hadn’t been lost, magical devices were still being produced. They were tools with a large gemstone as the core, filled with magic power and reusable.

This is currently a benefit of the Frontier, but it will eventually spread throughout Arcadia.

“Right. Thanks.”

The young girl grinned.

Seeing her mischievous, familiar smile, the adults sighed in relief.

“It’s done!”

The carriage that arrived was a carriage, but not quite.

To put it bluntly, it was a large cart with a box on top. The box and the cart were connected with spring mechanisms, and the forward-tilted body was mostly made of iron. It looked like a regular carriage, but a ladder-like structure was welded to the roof and the iron frame, allowing cargo to be placed in the gap between the roof and the ladder.

The adults were speechless at the bizarre carriage.

“The horses... Where are they? It doesn’t look like it has any equipment.”

Dorfen stroked the forward-tilted railing.

There was just a single horizontal bar, as if a human would pull it. A ladder-like iron pole was also attached to the strange railing.

Then, the small person waved her hand.

“Pochiko, come on!”

The bees, called over, listened to the small person’s explanation and lifted the horizontal bar of the carriage with a few of them. They grabbed the iron poles and lifted the carriage to a horizontal position. Then, they started pulling the carriage as instructed.

The adults watched in amazement as the bees effortlessly controlled the carriage. The small person gave further instructions.

“Pochiko, ascend!”

Following the small person’s command, the bees left two at the front and the remaining six grabbed the ladder-like iron poles on the roof of the carriage.

Just as the adults thought it couldn’t be possible, the large carriage was lifted into the air right before their eyes.

“Is it heavy? Can you do it?”

Looking up at the flying carriage, the small person shouted to the bees. In response, the bees performed a light turn while holding the carriage.

“Yeah, it seems fine.”

The young girl smiled contentedly, and the adults, with frozen gazes, shouted in unison.

“Explain!”

While being held by Dragon, the small person leaned back in surprise.

“What if you fall?!”

“It’s fine, I’ll bring Maita and the frogs.”

Maita and his companions, known for their ironclad protection.

Dragon, speechless, stammered.

“No, no, even so... We’re going with you, right? Are we flying too?”

“If you don’t want to, you don’t have to come.”

The small person’s nonchalant words were infuriating.

Adris fell silent, grumbling.

“Well, it might not be comfortable, but I’ll go with you.”

Dorfen nodded readily.

Suddenly remembering, Chiharu turned to Loemere.

“Right, right. For a comfortable journey, I want you to make a magical device to expand the space. Like the tent we used on the previous pilgrimage.”

Loemere’s eyes widened in understanding.

Using the magical tent device on the carriage’s box could create a comfortable space. It’s unclear if it would work on a moving carriage, but it would be interesting to research and improve it.

...Interesting?

Loemere suddenly recalled a thought that had crossed his mind before.

*What an interesting time to be born in.*

A pleasant thought that came to mind while dealing with the small person’s numerous mishaps. This was one of them.

Exhaling a long, thin sigh, Loemere’s eyes sparkled with challenge.

“If we’re doing it, let’s do it right, Chiharu.”

The small person, with a sly smile, jumped out of Dragon’s arms.

“Yeah, if you’re going to dance, you have to dance with all your might!”

She laughed cheerfully and started dancing with her short limbs. A mysterious dance that the adults couldn’t understand.

If Koki were here, he would recognize it as a Bon dance. The young girl, performing a rhythmic dance, left the adults deflated.

Getting into the spirit, the small person even started singing.

Where is Kawachi?

While the adults pondered this meaningless question and felt drained, the young girl danced happily.

The adults, fooled by the carefree dance, later gave the small person a stern lecture. They knew the small person wouldn’t stop, but there were still things they needed to say.

After a long lecture from each of them, the small person clicked her tongue and looked away.

Every day is filled with various commotions, but the small person is always energetic.

That’s it, thank you for reading. I wrote this to relieve my daily stress. It was fun.

The next update is scheduled for Thursday.
