“How… how did this happen?” Elder Qing faltered, yet as soon as he opened his mouth to speak, fresh blood spurted out of his mouth, sensing only an excruciating pain in his chest as if his internal organs had been shattered.

“Cough…” Elder Quan was also coughing, holding back the gushing blood in his throat, and his voice cracked, “The Big Dream spell… is a two-way communication , we can double the amount of our will to communicate to him, but he also can double his own will to communicate to us – this child’s underlying power is a hundred times stronger than I anticipated… we can’t control him!”

When he saw the child unleash the paper crane within the illusion, fighting against them with incredible willpower, refusing to extinguish what little hope he possessed, he was shocked – such a young child, whose royal blood was not yet awakened, had almost broken their joint illusion!

So, after a brief pause, in order to subjugate the child completely, he quickly turned up the intensity of the illusion to the maximum, eroding and infiltrating the child’s mind in the most cruel way possible, in order to overwhelm the undying thoughts that persisted in his heart.

The boy finally collapsed, stripped of all expectations attached to the Kongsang people.

And yet, he had never imagined that when the boy broke down, he would suddenly do such a reckless act! The desperate Ocean Emperor, in the midst of his hopelessness, did not give in and stabbed himself in the eyes!

The three elders of the Sea Kingdom fell to the ground, badly wounded.

The well collapsed and Sumo drifted to the bottom of the cold water, his face as white as a sheet of paper, lying huddled and motionless as if he were a tiny pale bubble under the murky depths – the child was shivering all over, his eyes tightly closed, yet an incessant stream of blood was seeping out of them, coloring everything around him with crimson!

Upon seeing this, Elder Quan, ignoring his own injuries, staggered up from the ground, jumped down from the shattered opening of the well and lifted the child from under the water – as he stepped out of the water, Sumo’s tightly closed eyes still carried distinct traces of blood.

The other two elders were shocked, “This child… is really hurt?”

It was clearly an illusion, why could he still be actually hurt?

“The Big Dream Magic can kill people, how can it not hurt people?” Elder Quan floated out of the well with the child in his arms, looking unusually tense, “We must hurry to treat the Ocean Emperor – otherwise his eyes may forever remain blind!”

The three elders surrounded Sumo as he has been brought out from the collapsed well, but before they could take a few steps, Ruyi approached them, as she heard the noise.

She had been waiting outside anxiously, and when she caught wind of the well’s crash, she came running over. She reached out for Sumo and discovered that the child in her arms was bleeding from both eyes, and exclaimed, “What happened to him?”

“This child…” Elder Quan coughed slightly and whispered roughly.

Ruyi was listening, her face growing pale and her arms shaking so much that she could barely hold the boy. She almost snapped out a rebuke, but remembering the status of the three elders, she had to hold back stiffly, and only tears started to streamed down her face like a rain.

“Alas… it was indeed my fault,” the always majestic and strong Elder Quan sighed and bowed his head in a rare admission of fault, “I was too hasty. After all, the Ocean Emperor is still a child and cannot bear such a severe blow. I didn’t expect him to be so fragile, to become completely persuaded, and then be so devastated, in an instant.”

Hearing the dignified elder’s words, Ruyi was unable to let her anger vent, so she could only hold the unconscious child and wipe the water droplets from his face, along with the blood and tears.

The little child was curled up frozen and completely motionless.

What more can be said? They had joined forces to destroy him, to reduce him to what he had become. In order to pull the boy’s heart back into her side, she took advantage of the boy’s only remaining trust in herself, and together with the elders set up this trap, luring him into it and driving him step by step to his breaking point.

Yet, to her surprise, when he gave up his heart’s obsession, he also self-destructed at the same time!

“Sumo… Sumo!” She called in the child’s ear. Yet he didn’t move a muscle.

“He… he’s not dead, is he?” Ruyi couldn’t hold back the panic in her heart and shuddered.

“If he died this easily, he couldn’t be the Sea Emperor we’ve been waiting for thousands of years.” However, Elder Quan only replied calmly and handed the blood covered child to her care, “I will immediately send someone to find a doctor, you stay here and take good care of the child, once he wakes up, report back at once.”

“Yes.” Ruyi nodded and received the order.

“There must not be the slightest misstep in this matter, or else all our work will be lost.” Elder Quan pondered for a moment, and then spoke to Ruyi’s side, “If he wakes up and inquires, you will reply as I have instructed. Don’t get a single word wrong.”

“Yes.” Ruyi nodded her head and looked at the child in silence, her heart aching in pain.

The thin child was curled up in her arms in a fetal position, so still that only his shoulders trembled and convulsed intensely, as if he were dwelling in some dream from which he could not wake-up, and two lines of bloody tears were streaming down from his closed eyes, unsure whether he was bleeding or shedding tears.

Sumo… Sumo, are you caught in a nightmare?

In that endless world of dreams, where heaven and earth are both black and even the only bit of warmth is frozen – can you, so little, sink alone under the cold water and still wake up from your breakdown by your own will power? Perhaps just shut your eyes forever and refuse to be awakened again?

You are our Ocean Emperor, the salvation of the sharks, the hope that we could never give up. But how cruel we have been to you!

Ruyi carried the unconscious child back into the room and carefully placed him on the bed.

It was a separate bedroom, located in the backyard, isolated from the large shed where the other shark children rested, and very quiet and private. She tucked Sumo in, fetched warm water and carefully washed the blood from the child’s face, lowered her head to examine the child’s wasted cheeks and let out a long sigh.

The blood can be washed away, yet the sightless pupils can never be restored.

Just like this child’s devastated heart.

This time, the three elders joined forces to cast the forbidden “Big Dream Magic” on Sumo, but with such tragic consequences – that powerful illusion and the resulting psychological implications will forever sink into Sumo’s innermost being as a form of subliminal subconsciousness, distorting his memory and reshaping his personality, planting the seeds of hatred for Kongsang people deep down and letting them grow rampantly until they produce a poisonous vine that will envelope the sky.

She certainly did not want to let that princess to pull Sumo’s heart away, but it was beyond her expectations to use such tyrannical and cruel methods against a young, helpless child.

The Restoration… has been reinstated.

Many, many sharks had been sacrificed for that remote dream, and now, even this child had to be sacrificed.

Ruyi sat in the darkness, bewildered by the thought, with her heart wracked to pieces.

Sometime later, Sumo seemed to wake up, and before he could open his eyes, he shoved her hand away, propped up his body with his tiny arms and scrunched back.

“Don’t be afraid, it’s me,” she hastened to support the child, and whispered in his ear, “I am Auntie Ru… you must quickly lie down and have a good rest.”

Hearing the word “Auntie Ru”, Sumo trembled violently once again, but no longer resisted.

Ruyi breathed a sigh of relief and felt mostly reassured – it was clear that after the Big Dream spell, the child’s trust and reliance on herself had been reinforced in his mind, and he no longer had the same rejection as before.
