When the dark clouds cleared, the bright golden sunlight poured through the sky, shining on the top of the White Tower of Jialan, like a torch lighting up the heart of Yunhuang, heralding the end of this disaster.
The Red King ran frantically all the way to the top of the tower, taking the lead with the White King, discovering that the place has evidently been through a terrible battle, and the entire Temple has been reduced to ruins; the Twin statue of the God of Creation and the God of Destruction has been split apart and the head of the latter has been torn off. In the midst of the ruins, the huge white sacred bird was lying dead with its long neck hanging down and its white feathers all stained with blood.
“Chongming Divine Bird!” The moment they caught sight of it, the lords all turned pale – it was well known that Chongming was the guardian Divine Bird of the Crown Prince, and now that Chongming was dead, would the Imperial Heir be…
However, in the next moment, two bright spots of astral light jumped into everyone’s attention.
“Imperial Heaven!” The Kings exclaimed, “Huotu Divine!”
The pair of divine rings were hovering in the air, their light pouring down and enveloping the couple of young people. The dead sacred bird’s wings were unfolded forward, its feathers slightly enclosing the man and the girl like a shield, protecting them as well. The young pair were lying next to the dead God-Bird, their bodies covered in blood and bruises.
However, they were still breathing.
“Ah-Yan!” The Red King exclaimed, and with blazing tears rolling down from his old eyes, he lunged forward to embrace his only daughter.
The White King rushed over to help Shi Ying up, using his magic to stop the bleeding and protect his spiritual essence, but in his heart, he was very concerned – what worried him was not only the crisis that had almost overthrown Kongsang, but the practically unbreakable bond between Shi Ying and this young princess of the Red Clan.
Everyone could see how much the Crown Prince was doting on this young maiden. If he allowed this young princess to enter the harem, wouldn’t his own daughter have to suffer the same fate as Empress Bai Yan in the future?
In that moment, the White King glanced at Zhu Yan in the arms of the Red King and his eyes altered slightly, almost as if a hint of hidden murderous intent had swept through his heart.
“You… cough… have nothing to worry about.”
During that same moment, a feeble voice echoed in his ears.
The White King raised his head haughtily, revealing an incredulous expression – at some point, the severely injured and unconscious Shi Ying beside him had woken up, opened his eyes, and was looking at him quietly. Those eyes revealed an insightful and meaningful expression, showing that he was peering directly into the deepest recesses of his mind.
This… this young man, did he just use the mind reading spell on him?
The White King’s heart shivered, and his body chilled, and the arm that was holding Shi Ying could not help but tighten. However, just when he attempted to move, he suddenly found that his body had been paralyzed – the fingers of Shi Ying had gently rested on his wrist, and without a sound, he released a confinement spell upon him.
The young man was badly wounded and extremely weak, but had already seized control over him even with his bare hands!
The White King winced and hastily suppressed his killing intent, not daring to move.
The Temple was in a state of panic, and no one sensed the subtle tension between the White King and the Crown Prince. Shi Ying obviously perceived his murderous intent, but simply sighed and whispered, “Rest assured, what you fear, cough… will never happen, Lord Bai…”
The White King didn’t know how to reply, but could only look at the young Crown Prince in silence. Shi Ying’s eyes were profound, and although they were weak and tired, they still retained their splendor, like an ocean with no discernible bottom.
“Everything to come, I have already made the arrangements for it.”
Zhu Yan closed her eyes, as if she had plunged into the deepest depths of the sea, the darkness in front of her eyes was as deep as the road to the Yellow Springs of the Underworld, and the only sound in her ears was the hollow whisper of the wind – vaguely, she suddenly remembered that this feeling was something she seemed to have experienced before: that time, when she was being brought from the Cloud Pavilion of the Star Ocean to the temple at the top of the White Tower by the Grand Master. The same nothingness, the same emptiness, not knowing whether she was alive or dead.
“Master… Master!” In that instant, Zhu Yan subconsciously shouted out.
“I am here.” A voice replied in a murmur.
“Master!” She sat up suddenly and opened her eyes, when she heard an awkward thud, and the imperial doctor who was leaning over in front of her to examine the wounds was knocked into his head and staggered backwards; fortunately for her, Shi Ying at her side lifted his hand to protect her from the blow.
Was it Shifu? He was still alive?
Zhu Yan opened her eyes wide and stared at the person in front of her, unable to look away for an instant, fearing that it was just a hallucination. Seeing her dumbfounded look, Shi Ying couldn’t help but lift his hand and gently touch her cheek.
That hand, there was warmth in it.
“Where is this… place?” Her face blushed and she snapped back to attention at once, looking around and realizing she was in an unfamiliar place. Shi Ying waved his hand and asked the imperial doctor to retreat so he could be alone with her, then said, “This is the White Lotus Hall where the Empress of Kongsang lives.”
Zhu Yan froze, “I… did I… really died?”
“Of course not.” Shi Ying’s tone was tinged with a note of sweetness.
She couldn’t help but be stunned and cast a gaze down upon her own body – she was wearing a long, clean, soft coat, and there were no wounds, not a single one, there was also no feeling of pain, as if nothing had really happened.
“You have been bedridden for a whole month,” as if understanding her confusion, Shi Ying’s voice released a sigh, “Your father brought the best doctors in the Yunhuang Desert to watch over you day and night, and healed all the wounds on your body, whether big or small. So you can be able to go straight down on the floor and jump up and down whenever you wake up.”
“Really?” Zhu Yan jumped on her feet at the sound of his voice and literally bounced off the ground, before freezing in place for a moment and looking at him, ” Then… we won the fight?”
This question, however, caused Shi Ying to fall silent for a moment, and only after a while he shake his head and said, “No.”
“Ah?” Zhu Yan was stunned, “Then… how come we are still alive?”
Shi Ying replied lightly: “Because he didn’t win either.”
“Oh…” Zhu Yan appeared to understand, “Did we end up in a draw?”
Shi Ying stood there silent for a moment, as if unsure of how to answer.
On that day, the two of them fought together and ultimately inflicted a heavy blow on the mysterious Wise Man from the Western Sea. He stabbed his sword through his opponent’s heart. But when he fell, exhausted, his opponent apparently still had some strength left – why had he not taken their lives? Was it because…
In that moment, Shi Ying’s eyes lowered and landed on Zhu Yan’s hand.
The Huotu Divine Ring shone brightly around her finger. For the first time in thousands of years, this divine ring appeared on the hand of a young girl from outside the White Clan. While Zhu Yan was still unaware of this mystery, she followed his line of sight and lowered her head, only to exclaim in surprise, “Huh? Why is your Imperial Heaven onto my finger?”
This girl was still so thick headed, completely oblivious to the fact that this was the other one from the pair of divine rings. A faint trace of a bitter smile suddenly appeared at the corner of Shi Ying’s mouth, and he could no longer hold back a sigh, stroking her hair and leaning down to kiss her forehead.
“Uhm…” Zhu Yan was speechless for a moment, and only felt her heart pounding wildly.
This was the moment she could truly confirm: she was really still alive.
How good it was to still be alive.
She could still embrace the one she loves, and still share his struggles and his happiness.
Originally, she thought she would only be able to join her Shifu on the road to the Yellow Spring!
“Ah… right, did you see what that guy looked like?” Recalling the mysterious man in the darkness, Zhu Yan suddenly winced and blurted out, “That guy! He… he actually looks exactly like you! Did you… did you see that?”
“I saw that.” Shi Ying sighed but showed no sign of surprise, “The blood that runs in our veins is the same, so it is not surprising that our external appearance is so similar.”
“What?!” Zhu Yan was stunned and puzzled, “You… already know who he is?”
Shi Ying nodded, and his expression turned grave as he remained silent for a while.
“Who is he?” Zhu Yan’s curiosity flared up like a fire, unable to suppress it any longer.
“To be able to summon the Imperial Heavenly Divine Ring, to master the deepest magic mysteries of Kongsang, to even be able to learn the secrets of Cloud Floating City above the Nine Heavens – there were none of such people in the entire Yunhuang, not even a couple throughout the entire history of the kingdom.” Shi Ying turned to inspect the room to make sure there wasn’t a single person peeking around, before answering in a soft voice, “If I’m correct, he should be the legendary founder of Kongsang…” His voice was intense, and he pronounced one word at a time, “Xingzun Emperor – Lang Gan.”
“What?” Zhu Yan was shocked and jumped straight up, “That’s impossible!”
Shi Ying looked at her, “Why is it impossible?”
“The Xingzun Emperor… he is a figure from the ancient legends of Kongsang! He is seven thousand years old! How could he still be alive to this day?” Zhu Yan muttered, and her eyes were filled with shock as she desperately shook her head, “No way, it’s impossible… That Wise Man clearly came up from the Western Sea! He is the leader of the Ice people!”
“There is nothing impossible in the boundlessness of the heaven and earth and the waters of the fountain of immortality.” The voice of Shi Ying however, was calm, “Why can’t the man from seven thousand years ago appear today? To the summer insect, winter does not exist. To the mayflies, the sun and moon will never change. In the end, we are just prisoners subjected to the constraints of time and fate. We cannot fathom the lives of those who are living above and beyond us.”
Zhu Yan was about to continue the conversation and inquire further, when she saw the expression on his face, and finally held back.
Shifu was really serious! He actually thought that Xingzun Emperor was still alive. Then… he definitely had a strong reason to believe that! It was preferable for her to avoid ruining the peace and harmony between them over such matter.
“Even if he is the Xingzun Emperor, so what?” Zhu Yan clenched her fist and gritted her teeth, “No matter who he is, if he wants to harm Kongsang, we will all come together and fight him down!”
“…” Shi Ying looked at her and couldn’t help but laugh.
Ah-Yan was as luminous, passionate and daring as a blossoming summer day – was this brightness in her the thing that most attracted his heart towards her.
“At any rate, it’s finally over.” Shi Ying sighed, “This time we caused him to return home in defeat, when he comes again next time, there is no telling how long it will be.”
He hesitated, as if talking to himself, “Perhaps we will all be gone from the world by then.”
“What happens seventy years later, it doesn’t matter anymore.” Zhu Yan nodded, a little dejected, “We can only live for another twenty-seven years, we cannot guard the Yunhuang forever either.”
“It doesn’t matter, even if we are gone, our descendants will continue to guard this land,” Shi Ying cast his gaze beyond the Purple Palace and spoke in a profound tone, “for generations to come, wearing the Imperial Heaven and the Huotu Divine, and fighting for Kongsang until the last man…”
“Our… descendants?” However, Zhu Yan was no longer listening to the words that followed, and her face suddenly flared red, like a boiled prawn.
When Shi Ying saw her blushing face, a sudden surge of tenderness rushed through his heart.
“Of course,” he smiled, taking the young maiden into his arms and kissing her lightly, “we will naturally have our offsprings – those children will continue our bloodline and keep the country running, guarding it and fighting for it.”
Ah… having children with Shifu? What would they look like?
Zhu Yan was not thinking about all these big principles of homeland and a thousand years dynasty, but just repeatedly thought about the same thing, having his children. Suddenly, she felt her face heating up and her heart becoming sweet, so she couldn’t help but lean over against him.
“Ah, you like children so much?” She looked at him and pouted, complaining, “I don’t like raising children… is tiresome. I’m afraid I won’t be able to resist and smack them when I get grumpy.”
Shi Ying smiled, “I’ll take care of them in that case.”
“What? Really?” Zhu Yan smiled brightly when her trick was successful, “But no cheating.”
“What’s so hard about that – if they don’t behave, I’ll just spank them.” Shi Ying nodded and looked at her meaningfully, “That’s how I brought you up, isn’t it?”
“…” Zhu Yan did not anticipate that he would suddenly bring up this matter, and her face immediately flamed red.
Under the bright daylight, her smile was like a flower, and her face was beaming red like a rose in full bloom, which was inexpressibly charming, making one understand what the true term “Zhu Yan*” really meant. But as she smiled, she suddenly remembered something and her face quickly turned pale and she froze again.
“What?” Shi Ying didn’t expect her mood to shift so drastically and couldn’t help but frown slightly. However, Zhu Yan glanced at him and her mouth twitched, wanting to say something and then refraining.
“What do you want to say?” Shi Ying examined her expression.
“I… was just thinking,” Zhu Yan hesitated for a while, and finally blurted out the truth, in a sulky tone, “After you become the Emperor of Kongsang in the future, you are supposed to… have many wives and many children, right?”
Hearing these words, Shi Ying shuddered and his face suddenly sank.
Zhu Yan knew she shouldn’t have mentioned this and immediately bit down on the corner of her mouth, but her expression was already gloomy, no longer bright as it was a few moments ago.
Shi Ying looked at her quietly, his gaze unfathomable: “Then what are you trying to say?”
“I… don’t mean to blame you,” Zhu Yan’s heart skipped a beat and she hastily added, “I mean that the Emperor of Kongsang has always had three palaces and six wombs**, and naturally there will definitely be an abundance of children. When the time comes, you may not have the time to personally raise them one by one… isn’t it?”
Shi Ying nodded and actually admitted in one breath, “Yes.”
Zhu Yan only felt her heart being pierced through, and her voice trembled a little, she knew clearly that she shouldn’t continue this topic, but she proceeded as if she was possessed, “So… which of Xue Ying’s sisters are you planning to marry as the Empress? You…”
At this point, she finally couldn’t speak any further, and her eyes turned red.
In the silence of the Purple Palace, Shi Ying looked at her and suddenly sighed, saying, “Ah-Yan, you must know that there are some things that cannot be changed, such as the thousand-year-old imperial marriage system in Kongsang – if you force it to change for a specific person, it will inevitably cause turmoil and unrest in the world.”
“I… I know. I don’t blame you.” Zhu Yan nodded, but her voice was a little strangled, “You… can go and marry the Empress of the White Clan!”
“Is that so?” Shi Ying stared at her with an intricate gaze, and only after a lengthy pause he said, “You really have grown up… If it was in the past, you would probably have gone to the wedding and seized the bride without saying a word.”
His voice was gentle, but it was impossible to distinguish whether he was complimentary or dismal. The tears in Zhu Yan’s eyes could no longer be contained as they cascaded down, hitting the ground in large globs and she choked back a sob, “Then… what else can I do? The Emperor of Kongsang, naturally, has to marry the Empress of the White Clan. I can’t really go and kidnap the bride at the big wedding…”
“To tell the truth…” Shi Ying paused for a moment, as if imagining that scene, the corners of his mouth suddenly rose slightly, “actually, I’m quite looking forward to it.”
Zhu Yan did not expect him to say such a thing at this point in time, and her mouth hung wide open for a moment, “You…”
However, the next moment, Shi Ying’s hand squeezed her shoulder, pushing her down as she was about to jump up, lowering his head to gaze at her red eyes and sighed: “It’s my fault for making you worry about such things… How could I throw such a difficult dilemma at you and make you suffer because of it?
Zhu Yan was just about to lash with anger, but hearing such words she instantly softened and lowered her head, muttering, “It’s not your fault for being the Crown Prince of Kongsang. You didn’t have a choice.”
“No, I have a choice.” However, Shi Ying’s tone was suddenly solemn, “Things are in the hands of people. There is never really anything in the world that is beyond choice.”
“Huh?” Zhu Yan stared blankly at him for a moment, “All the Emperors of Kongsang in the past generations, invariably, had to marry a White Clan princess as their Empress… Can you make an exception?”
“I can’t.” Shi Ying shook his head.
The little spark that had just lit up in Zhu Yan’s heart swiftly extinguished as she once again dropped her head and muttered, “I knew you couldn’t be the emperor without marrying the White King’s daughter, he would have to revolt.”
Shi Ying shook his head, and said in a single sentence, “Who said I must be the Emperor of Kongsang?”
“Huh?” This time Zhu Yan was taken aback and stood up straight with a quick jolt, looking at him steadily – Shi Ying had a serious expression and showed no signs of joking.
She gradually understood, “Could it be that you’re not an emperor anymore?”
“No.” Shi Ying replied calmly and with clarity.
“You… How can you… avoid to comply?!” Zhu Yan looked at him in disbelief and shouted out of breath, “Shi Yu is already dead… The imperial blood of Kongsang is about to be cut off! If you don’t become the emperor, who else will be the emperor?”
“Naturally there is someone else to take the crown.” Shi Ying was nevertheless nonchalant.
“Who?” Her eyes widened.
Shi Ying paused for a moment and opened his mouth, “Yong Long.”
“Yong Long?” Zhu Yan pondered for half a second, stunned, “Never heard of such a person in the Imperial Family or the Six Clans… Who is he?”
“Naturally you have never heard of him.” Shi Ying looked at her bewildered face, the corners of his mouth rose slightly as he whispered, “Because, this person has not yet been born into this world.”
Zhu Yan was so confused by what she was hearing, “What are you saying? He hasn’t been born yet?”
“Yes,” Shi Ying nodded, looking at her with a thoughtful gaze, “Yong Long is still an unborn baby right now, and it will still take three months before he leaves his mother’s womb to be born in this Yunhuang – he will be the new heir to the throne.”
“How is it possible…” Zhu Yan hesitated, finding it just impossible.
“How is it impossible?” Shi Ying looked at her wide-eyed bewildered look, couldn’t help but sigh, stroked her head and whispered, “His mother, in fact, is someone you know.”
“Ah!” Zhu Yan shook, suddenly understanding, and jumped up at once.
She jumped so suddenly that she bumped into Shi Ying’s shoulder. However, she didn’t have time to apologize, she just grabbed his lapel and shouted, “Oh my god, you are talking about Xue Ying? She does seem to be about to give birth, doesn’t she? Her baby’s name is Yong Long?”
“Hush, don’t shout.” Shi Ying whispered, pushing her down, “This matter is extremely confidential, no one but the White King knows about it.”
“This… this…” Zhu Yan danced around, her eyes as large as bright copper bells, flying through all these news in her head, yet she still felt a little confused. “Oh my god… Xue Ying is indeed pregnant with Shi Yu’s posthumous child! I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!”
She looked up and glared at Shi Ying, “Are you planning to make that child the emperor of Kongsang?”
“Yes.” Shi Ying nodded.
Zhu Yan pondered for a moment and found no reason to refute it, and could only grumble: “Making Xue Ying’s child become the emperor. Do the Six Kings… agree to this?”
“Now that the Grand Master is dead, the Great Divine Office is vacant, and anyone in Kongsang who had the authority to determine the legacy of the Imperial Blood is no longer in place. So, all that is required is my approval.” Shi Ying raised his eyebrows slightly and spoke in a deep voice, “Besides, Shi Yu was originally the Crown Prince and Xue Ying is also the first daughter of the White King, their offspring is of pure blood, what can be said against succeeding to the throne?”
When Zhu Yan was listening to him talking so confidently, she couldn’t help but be a little surprised: “You had it all planned out a long time ago, is that so? What about the White King? He also agrees?”
“Of course the White King agrees.” Shi Ying replied briefly, “That is his grandson, in terms of blood, he is one level above me – I suggested this swap, and only after that he meekly agreed to broke your engagement with Bai Fenglin.”
“And what about you?” Zhu Yan’s eyes widened, “What will you… do with yourself?”
“Me?” Shi Ying said lightly, “I will run this Kongsang for Yong Long until he comes of age – we have twenty-seven years left, enough time for the boy to grow into a competent emperor. Then, we will travel far across the seven seas and live free between Heaven and Earth.”
He spoke calmly and lightly, in an orderly manner, as if what he was giving up in between his words was not the throne of Kongsang, but just a thing that could be discarded at will, without any concerns, without any unnecessary gains or losses.
Zhu Yan was dumbfounded, and only after a long time she exclaimed, “Are you giving up becoming the emperor, because of me…?”
Shi Ying replied briefly, “I don’t want you to be aggrieved.”
“…” Her mind simply had never heard anything as sweet as this, her brain exploded, she only felt the blood rushing upwards, and her heart shook violently; she didn’t know what to say for half a minute. Seeing the strange expression on her face, Shi Ying tried to comfort her by saying something, however, Zhu Yan was stunned for some time when suddenly pulled at his sleeve and cried out: “It’s all my fault! If it wasn’t for me… you would have become the Emperor of Kongsang!”
She was crying so hard, as if she had done something terribly wrong to him.
“There, there, stop crying.” He coaxed her gently, wiping away the tears rolling down her face, “It’s also for myself. It’s not like I’m the kind of person who enjoys being an emperor. You’ve been with me for so long, you should already know what kind of person I am.”
Zhu Yan was feeling so guilty and emotionally moved in her heart that she couldn’t stop crying: “It’s all my fault… sob, it’s all because of me…”
“Stop crying!” Shi Ying frowned and scolded her softly, yet Zhu Yan still couldn’t stop choking.
All of a sudden, the sobs ceased.
Shi Ying swiftly bent down and kissed her on the lips. Zhu Yan’s body trembled, and her sobs choked in her throat, her eyes widened in amazement as she looked at him, and her bright eyes filled with crystal tears, like dew drops on the petals of a summer gardenia, made him unable to resist kissing her deeper.
Suddenly, both of them fell into a bit of a trance being carried by the emotions, remembering at the same time a fleeting moment from the past that was very similar to the one they were having now.
It was in the underground of Star Ocean Cloud Pavilion, when they fought to death as master and disciple, and he finally let her kill him as she wished. That was when she, in turn, cried uncontrollably, and he kissed her goodbye before he died – at the time they both thought it was the first and last kiss they would share in their entire lifetime.
That bitterness has remained imprinted in his memory, even after walking the path between life and death. But now, at last, there was a new sweetness that could completely wipe out the bitterness.
It turns out that although life is long, the sorrows and joys of a lifetime seem to be encapsulated in this short cycle of spring, summer, autumn and winter. In the blink of an eye, thousands of sails have been exhausted, but fortunately, the person he loves is still by his side.
Shi Ying cupped her face and gazed into her eyes. Zhu Yan finally stopped crying and looked at him with a blushing scarlet face, her eyes shining with a glittering clarity, like a deer snuggling next to a human. The Jade Bone had been shattered in that life-and-death battle, and her hair was cascading down, thick and velvety, like the finest silk, which caused his fingers to linger through.
“You foolish girl, don’t feel guilty, it’s for my own sake too,” he sighed and whispered, “you must understand that I would never accept a strange woman who was allotted to come over, no matter how pure her lineage is. Nor would I ever allow myself to push you into that dilemma and stand by and do nothing about it – it’s my own problem, and I need to make a choice.”
Shi Ying’s voice was soft but carried the weight of a thousand stones, “I’m doing all this not only for you, but also for myself – for us.”
She lifted her big bright eyes to look at him and suddenly smiled.
“If you don’t want to, then you don’t!” Zhu Yan, nodded vigorously and spat out her tongue, “I’m also quite happy that Xue Ying’s child will become the emperor. She’s suffered so much; she can finally make it through.”
“Don’t worry about others.” Shi Ying gently stroked the hair of the young girl in his embrace, gazed at the sky on top of the Jialan White Tower and whispered, “Ah-Yan, there is nothing more important than us spending our lives together.”
“There is!” Zhu Yan, however, suddenly lifted her head and rebutted.
Shi Ying could not help but be slightly stunned and frowned at the naughty young girl, only to hear her mutter, “This life is too short. We’ll be together for the next life too, and the one after that, no, for all eternity!”
“For all eternity?” Shi Ying was stunned and murmured softly.
“Yes!” Zhu Yan nodded, suddenly imitating the tone he used when he died and was saying goodbye, “In this life, we will repay the kindnesses and grievances between us, and we will not owe each other anymore – when we meet in the next life, we will still keep being together!”
At the end of her speech, she could not help but laugh with a harmonious voice. However, when he looked at the young girl’s flowery smile and her determined and passionate eyes, he became slightly lost in thoughts for a moment.
The cycle of reincarnation is perpetual, and there is no room for emotion, so who can say that a lifetime love is eternal?
Even the Xingzun Emperor, the founder of the Kongsang Dynasty seven thousand years ago, who wiped out the six kingdoms, destroyed the Sea Kingdom, and ruled over the world, even breaking through the boundaries of life and death through time, could not keep his empress with him – seven thousand years later, where is the Empress Bai Wei today, who once pioneered the world alongside him and joined forces to create the Kongsang Dynasty?
Back then, they must have made a promise to live together for all eternity, right?
The Imperial Heaven and the Huotu Divine are still in this world, but everything else has vanished into the smoke and dust of history, leaving only a few lines in the annals of records, which will remain indistinguishable from the real and the fake for future generations.
A hundred years later, a thousand years from now, when the wheel of fate is rotating, when the seas and oceans are transforming, when the vermilion face is fading and the red powder is turning to dust, when new stars are shining in the sky and a new era is emerging, how many people in this world will still remember them both?
Perhaps it does not matter whether they will be remembered or not.
What matters is that in this life, here and now, they have come, lived, fought, loved each other, shared life and death, agreed with one mind, and stood side by side to guard what they wanted to protect.
Shi Ying looked into her bright eyes and replied resolutely and softly:
“Yes, for all eternity.”
The End.

I want to thank all the readers that have been patient with my timings, and followed my translation during this long period of time. I want to say a special “THANK YOU!” to all the people who, with very much kindness and generosity, have sent me donations every now and then. I am grateful and I want to express my appreciation towards you from the bottom of my heart. My you all receive a thousand blessings in return.
I also want to say that I was not expecting so many readers to follow my blog. Estimating, you have surpassed 5.000 regular people, maybe more… I am amazed! Xiao Zhan really have the biggest and the most loving fan base!
All is left now is to hope that the TV Series “The Longest Promise” will be even more great that the book, which lacked in certain aspects.
All in all, I can declare myself extremely satisfied with how it ended, I wasn’t expecting such an overly sweet conclusion, given this author’s tendency to cruelty and sadness. I’m feeling super satisfied of how it ended, and also accomplished for having finished the translation of the entire novel; when I started, I was extremely novice and many words I had a hard time to find the true significance, especially because being a novel set in ancient times, the wording is much more difficult and elaborate than a contemporary one, and also because English is by no means my fist language, not even my second as for that. I learned along the way and I grew together with Zhu Yan and Shi Ying, which makes me feel extremely proud of myself.
I hope you didn’t mind too much my errors and enjoyed the translation. 💖💖
