“Froze!” With a flick of his wrist and a movement of his fingers, the Grand Master released a spell instantly. A stream of frost descended from the sky, sealing the tiny things instantly!
“There are actually such things?” Da Si Ming murmured as he stared incredulously at the little things.
With a subtle movement of his wrist, the sharp sword reverted to a jade slip in an instant and became enclosed into his sleeve. The old man lowered his head and picked up one of the worms on the ground, examining it carefully, revealing a hint of dazzlement: “Awesome, it is really a demonic parasite… a rare thing in Yunhuang. I heard that Consort Qing’s beloved maid, Acuo, comes from the Middle Kingdom and is quite skilled, I didn’t expect that she would even have this sort of knowledge?”
The Bei Mian Emperor was lying on his bed, his entire body trembling fiercely, while the blood on his heart was still dripping out – if the sword a moment ago would have penetrated half as deeply as it did, he would have been killed by his own protector on his very deathbed.
“A demonic parasite is an evil creature with a spiritual nature, and will not leave an entity unless it learns that its host is about to be killed.” The Grand Master sneered and glanced at the Emperor, “And I have the exact same bloodline as you, so when those parasites are forced out, they will be attracted towards my blood.”
So that’s what the extremely dangerous blow from the sword was all about?
The Grand Master sniffed the worm and nodded, “Such a hidden parasite, heavily concealed by the smell of other herbs, would not be visible to even the most astute imperial physicians – only those who consumed it would understand that something was wrong, and yet, you are no longer able to speak whatsoever.”
The Emperor’s shoulders were shaking weakly and his eyelids kept twitching as if he was trying desperately to open his eyes.
“This is a mind-subduing spell,” the Grand Master examined the small creature carefully and said faintly, “It seems that she wasn’t trying to kill you, she just wanted to control your sanity. What a powerful woman…”
Speaking of which, the Grand Master could not help but smirk sarcastically: “While she gave you the expensive tonic for restoring life from the dead, she also placed a mind-subduing curse on you – she was planning everything carefully and perfectly! If she couldn’t save your life, she would at least make use of you, forcing you to become a controllable puppet? This woman, she’s got skills.”
The body of the man in the coma shuddered again, his breath became short, and his eyes rolled sharply under his eyelids.
“These demonic parasites have been raised to such a large size. It seems that she has fed you the medicine at least three times, right?” The Grand Master stared at the cluster of demonic worms measuring the size of a human strand of hair on the ground and coldly remarked, “Fortunately, I recognized it in time, or else, Ah-Jun, you would really have been unable to beg for your life to be saved, and you would probably have had to die.”
Having said that, the Grand Master sighed, lifted the emperor up with one hand and scribbled a charm on the Tanzhong point on his chest with the other – the flow of blood subsided rapidly and the wound healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
The Bei Mian Emperor gasped heavily and his face turned ghastly white, his lips trembling incessantly.
“It’s alright, it’s everything over now, you don’t need to rush.” The Grand Master leaned forward and gently wiped the blood seeping out of the emperor’s seven orifices with a silk handkerchief, speaking in a gentle tone, “Don’t worry, I won’t allow you to fall into the hands of that woman… The emperor of the Heavenly Kingdom of Kongsang, even if his fate is deserving of death, it’s by no means appropriate to be manipulated by that woman, right?”
The Bei Mian Emperor spat out the poisoned blood and his breathing became much more subdued, yet he was still unable to open his eyes.
“Alas… do you know that since you have fallen seriously ill, the court have been in collusion with each other? Your concubine, your son, your beloved ministers, the six Vassals of the Clans, there is not a single one who does not have a hidden agenda, but which one of them is truly interested of your well-being?”
The Grand Master sighed and sat down in front of his xiongdi*’s bed, “Ah-Jun, although Kongsang has become increasingly extravagant and corrupt under your rule, at least you have not been a foolish ruler, how did you end up in this predicament today?”
The Emperor coughed and rasped in his throat as if struggling desperately to get any words out.
“What are you trying to say?” The Grand Master, however, grinned and looked at the dying man, “Are you begging me to save you? Or begging me to kill you faster?”
The expression on the face of this immortal old man was peculiar in that moment, appearing to be evil and compassionate at the same time, as he gazed down at his fellow peer trapped on his sickbed and shook his head with a sigh, “Forgive me, Ah-Jun. Although you are very sick, I still have to keep you alive and make use of you…”
The Emperor was breathing heavily on his bed, the lump in his throat sliding up and down incessantly, yet he could not utter a single word.
“By the way, I almost forgot to mention that I came here today because I have some serious matter to deal with you.” The Grand Master took out a piece of paper from his bosom, it was a long scroll Imperial decree, and put it in front of the emperor, “Here, since I saved your life, you sign this for me first.”
The Emperor could not open his eyes so he could only shake his head slowly.
As if he knew what he was thinking about, the Grand Master sneered coldly, “What? You want to know what is written on it? Oh… don’t worry, it’s good news: your firstborn son wants to return to the world and needs to ask for your permission.”
“…” The semi-conscious Emperor jolted violently and, with strength coming from nowhere, his eyes unexpectedly opened weakly for a moment, glaring deadly at the Grand Master!
“Yes, I’m talking about Shi Ying. You haven’t seen him for over twenty years, have you? How come you still have such a reaction upon hearing his name?” The Grand Master picked up the vermilion pen and placed it in his withered hand, urging, “Here, put your signature on the word that says ‘approved’.”
“…” The Emperor shivered slightly all over, his withered fingers lingering on the paper for a long time, breathing heavily in short, shallow gasps.
The Grand Master said coldly, “What, do you disagree?”
However, when the Grand Master felt that he would have to use magic to control him in order to achieve his goal, suddenly the emperor’s withered fingers flexed and moved strenuously and slowly over the imperial scroll, and wrote the word “approved”.
“…” the Grand Master shook slightly and looked at the Emperor somewhat surprised.
“So,” he paused, “you want him back as well?”
The Emperor did not reply. It looked like all the strength of the dying man was used up in writing that single word, and the moment his fingers released the grip on the pen, the Emperor crumpled backwards, his whole body hunched up amidst the brocade, coughing violently.
“Don’t rush to rest yet, here is another decree for you to sign.” The Grand Master proceeded, however, to take out another piece of paper and placed it under his wrist, “Here.”
The content of this decree, however, was shocking, as it stated: “The Red Clan has failed to live up to the Grace of Heaven and acted rebelliously and presumptuously. Over the past hundred years, they have colluded with the Restoration Army and committed countless treasonous crimes – the Red King and his wife are to be executed by having their bodies split apart by five horses, and their entire clan is to be exterminated!
“…” The content of such a decree caused the Bei Mian Emperor’s entire body to tremble, and a shocked expression passed through his gaze as he stared firmly at the Grand Master – to exterminate one of the Royal Vassals of the Six Clans? Such an astonishing decree was enough to cause internal turmoil in the entire Yunhuang and unrest in the world. What was the Grand Master… trying to do?
“What? You refuse to sign? You want to know the story of what happened? You want to see the Crown Prince? You want to see the Consort Qing? Want to see the Chancellor and the Six Kings?” As if knowing what the emperor wanted to say, Da Si Ming laughed, his voice sneering, “Unfortunately, you can’t do any of that – at this point, there’s nothing you can do about it!”
His index finger and ring finger quickly flexed, as if they were pulled by a thread, and the Emperor’s hand automatically followed his gesture on the imperial seal, swiftly writing down the word “approved”!
The Bei Mian Emperor’s body trembled violently as he glared deadly at his peer.
“Alright, it’s all done.” Da Si Ming put away the scroll and grinned a little, as if to reassure him, “Don’t worry, this might not necessarily be used, it’s just to scare the girl a little.”
The girl? Who? What the hell was he… trying to do? The Bei Mian Emperor stared blankly at the Grand Master with boundless suspicion and anger in his eyes, his withered body shivering slightly.
“You are trying to ask why I did this to you, aren’t you?” Perhaps by using mind-reading magic, the Grand Master seem to know exactly what he was thinking, “We are brothers by blood who grew up together since childhood, and when you became emperor, you appointed me as the Grand Master. While you were seriously ill, you even asked me to take your place as regent – surely you thought you were good enough with me so you can’t understand why I would do this to you, is that so?”
He sighed, sat down on the bed, looking at his xiongdi and asked, word for word, “Do you think I want to steal your empire? Do you believe me when I say that I am doing all these things only for the sake of Kongsang?”
The Emperor shook for a moment, astonishment creeping into his eyes.
