That Zhou Boss, who sold the automatic crossbow, was very trustworthy. They promised to deliver to Chen Fei within 24 hours, but in fact, they arrived at the rarely frequented west gate of Chen Fei's residential area in just 22 hours.

The items Chen Fei purchased, whether it was the military-grade automatic crossbow or the three sharp samurai swords, were strictly prohibited contraband. Even if he didn't use them for any nefarious purposes, if he were caught, Chen Fei would still be taken to the police station. As for the sellers, who were engaging in illegal trade, the risks they faced were even greater, and their sentences would be several times heavier than Chen Fei's. Therefore, the transaction had to be carried out with great caution. They also had to be wary of whether Chen Fei was a police officer trying to bust them.

Chen Fei placed his order at around 1:00 AM the previous night. After the seller finished making all the steel arrows Chen Fei needed, two burly men drove a black unregistered SUV from Yongning County, Ninghai City, 800 kilometers away, and sped to the central city where Chen Fei lived.

These two burly men were clearly not first-timers in such transactions. They arrived at Chen Fei's residential area at 10:00 PM and first drove around the neighborhood, then checked the two nearby streets. An hour after their arrival, they called Chen Fei.

Chen Fei was browsing the latest news about the virus on his phone in bed when a call from an unknown number appeared on the screen. Before he could speak, a man's deep, hoarse voice came from the phone.

"Hey! Boss! Your takeout has arrived."

This was the code phrase Zhou Boss had texted Chen Fei in the afternoon, to be used as a signal when the goods were delivered.

Chen Fei nervously swallowed, and the man's voice on the phone made him involuntarily think of the vicious characters in movies. Despite his fear, Chen Fei quickly put on his shoes and headed towards the west gate of the residential area.

At 11:00 PM, there were few pedestrians in the residential area. Chen Fei walked towards the west gate with small, quick steps, his heart pounding.

Five minutes later, Chen Fei walked out of the west gate. Due to the difficulty of parking, the street outside the west gate was like a parking lot at night, with cars everywhere.

After a moment of confusion, Chen Fei finally spotted a dusty black SUV about 50 meters away on the opposite side of the street. Its weathered appearance clearly indicated it had just completed a long journey.

Chen Fei quickly took out his phone and used the flashlight function to flash the black SUV three times, as Zhou Boss had instructed in the text. When he first read the text, he found it strange, but now, as he did it, he felt like he was in a movie, a mix of tension and excitement.

After Chen Fei flashed the light three times, a man nearly 1.9 meters tall got out of the SUV and waved at Chen Fei.

Seeing the man's response, Chen Fei quickly walked to the opposite side of the street. From a distance, Chen Fei only noticed the man's tall stature, but as he got closer, he realized the man was not only tall but also imposing, with a bulge at his waist that Chen Fei naturally associated with something dangerous, making his heart race.

"Pay the final amount first!"

The man noticed Chen Fei's fear and also felt relieved, as it proved Chen Fei was not a police officer.

"Oh... I'll transfer the money to Zhou Boss right away."

Chen Fei had already paid a 10,000 yuan deposit, and now that the goods were delivered, he naturally had to pay the remaining amount. Normally, he should have inspected the goods before paying, but facing the man, Chen Fei had no choice. Through the car window, he saw the driver, who looked equally menacing. So, he subconsciously followed the man's instructions, eager to complete the transaction.

Chen Fei transferred the remaining amount, including the money for the samurai swords, to Zhou Boss via WeChat. As soon as the transfer was complete, the imposing man received a call, said a brief "Yes" three times, and then knocked on the driver's window. After exchanging a glance with the driver, he walked straight to the back of the car, took out two large suitcases from the trunk, and placed them in front of Chen Fei.

"Boss, here's your takeout!"

The man didn't say anything more and turned to walk towards the passenger side.

"Wait, wait... Gentlemen, you've had a long journey. Here are two cartons of cigarettes for you. I wish you a safe trip!"

Chen Fei quickly stepped forward and handed the two cartons of Huanghelou cigarettes to the man. The man took the cigarettes, nodded meaningfully, and after a moment of hesitation, said in a low voice:

"Use these things only in the wilderness. If you get reported, you'll be in trouble..."

The man then got into the car, and with a roar of the engine, the SUV sped away, disappearing around the corner in a flash.

Chen Fei let out a long sigh of relief. The transaction had been nerve-wracking and dangerous. If it weren't for the impending apocalypse, he would never have engaged in such illegal activities or dealt with such dangerous people.

Fortunately, when Chen Fei returned home, the room was dark, indicating that Mu Meiqing and Nangong Jin had already gone to bed. Although Chen Fei was often tormented and enslaved by these two beautiful women, he could still enjoy their beauty every day. If the apocalypse meant he could have two beautiful women by his side, he could勉强 accept it.

In the bedroom...

Chen Fei looked at the two black suitcases he had placed on the bed, feeling both nervous and excited. Only after he opened the suitcases and confirmed the contents did a smile of joy appear on his face.

Although the transaction had been nerve-wracking and dangerous, the items he had paid a high price for were genuine and of high quality!

Following the operation diagram Zhou Boss had sent him via WeChat, Chen Fei successfully unfolded the automatic crossbow, which was in a folded state. From the details and the quality of the materials, it was clear that this was not something that could be easily replicated domestically. It was likely, as Zhou Boss had said, a military-grade crossbow smuggled from overseas!

Chen Fei weighed the automatic crossbow in his hands and found that even with his small and weak body, it wasn't too heavy, which made him even more satisfied. If it were too heavy and difficult to use, it would be a complete tragedy.

The automatic crossbow came with a sight, and later, an infrared sight was added. This made it easy for Chen Fei, a novice, to aim.

The automatic crossbow could hold up to 15 arrows and automatically reload, much like an automatic pistol. Chen Fei was eager to test its power, but he quickly suppressed this urge.

Who knew if he would encounter a well-meaning citizen who would report him if he went out with the crossbow. If he were taken to the police station at this critical moment, Chen Fei would be in a truly desperate situation. Originally, he might have been detained for a few days, but with the outbreak of the zombie virus and most people being infected and mutated, a few days of detention would turn into a life sentence, and Chen Fei would be left to starve to death.

It had to be admitted that Zhou Boss's reputation was very good. They had packed 200 steel arrows in two metal boxes. Chen Fei carefully examined each arrow and found that they were all meticulously crafted, capable of piercing a wild boar's head at close range. As for the steel balls that came with the crossbow, Chen Fei didn't have high expectations for their power. They might be useful for hunting rabbits, but it would be difficult to pierce a zombie's head, even at point-blank range.

Chen Fei smiled helplessly at the items Zhou Boss had given him. It seemed that the man had mistaken him for one of the enthusiasts in the group. The items included a highly realistic set of U.S. Special Forces uniforms, a set of Marine Corps uniforms, and a set of Navy SEAL uniforms, complete with accessories and details, such as an M9 multi-function bayonet, night vision goggles, a first aid kit, a water bottle, a helmet, cut-resistant gloves, knee pads, elbow pads, and more, making them almost indistinguishable from the real thing.

The M9 multi-function bayonet might not be genuine, but its material and craftsmanship were top-notch, and its sharpness and durability were beyond doubt. However, the night vision goggles were clearly a knockoff, although they were well-made, their night vision range was only about 100 meters, while genuine military night vision goggles had a range of 400 to 800 meters.

Actually, Chen Fei had gathered information online but had wrongly accused Zhou Boss. The night vision goggles were indeed military-grade, but they were old, retired equipment, which explained the shorter range.

What surprised Chen Fei even more was that Zhou Boss had also given him two triangular bayonets, which were typically mounted on rifles but could also be used as daggers. Compared to the M9 multi-function bayonet, the triangular bayonets were about 10 centimeters longer and were designed purely for stabbing, as their narrow, triangular shape could easily pierce any part of an enemy's body.

The three samurai swords were also well-crafted, with extremely sharp edges. However, Chen Fei knew that even if the swords were sharp, it would not be easy to decapitate a zombie. In reality, things were not as dramatic as in movies and TV shows, where the protagonist could use a sword to decapitate zombies effortlessly. In the apocalypse, if that were the case, the protagonist would be the first to die!

After checking all the survival weapons, Chen Fei felt a great weight lifted from his shoulders. Next, he would wait for his modified car to be completed.
