Chapter 12: Snakes Have Their Own Way
6 min read1,487 words
A single move to defeat the enemy!
Not only were the aggressive pickpockets stunned, even Feihu, who was smoking, almost spat out his cigarette. He wasn't incapable of using such force to defeat the man on the ground, but he couldn't match Zhao Heng's composure and precision. At that moment, Zhao Heng bent down and casually brushed the dust off his pants.
"Come!"
Zhao Heng rolled up his sleeves and shouted in a deep voice: "Come over!"
Although the restaurant was a bit dim and the air conditioning wasn't cold, they still saw a dazzling glint in the young man's eyes, like a blade immersed in icy water, cold and sharp. For some reason, the originally refined and gentle Zhao Heng now had a hint of ruthlessness, making people feel a subconscious chill.
"Little brother, I think we can talk this out."
Feihu, with a cigarette in his mouth, said in a deep voice, trying to prove his strength by making his shirt sleeve tear, revealing his muscular arm: "Just return the money you took and apologize to my two brothers."
"Then we'll call it even today!"
"Talk? You think you deserve it?!"
Zhao Heng sneered, his expression disdainful and arrogant, like a tiger facing a flock of sheep waiting to be slaughtered. He stepped forward toward Feihu and the others. For people who bully the weak and do evil, he never felt pity or sympathy. Robbing in broad daylight, how vile must their hearts be?
Moreover, he believed that if they had the chance, they would definitely seek revenge.
Du Ziyang looked at Zhao Heng, amazed, seeing a side of him she hadn't seen before.
Step back, and step back again.
When the eight men, out of fear, huddled together, and their eyes showed submission and repeated requests for peace, Zhao Heng brutally and savagely ignored them and continued to advance, finally provoking a desperate counterattack. Feihu's lips twitched rapidly, and he suddenly shouted:
"Attack!"
The sudden low, angry roar was like a series of闷雷 (thunderclaps). The interplay of light and shadow, coupled with the sudden rise of dust, made the dimly lit restaurant look like a thousand ghosts were dancing. There were occasional groans and screams, people flying, and splattered blood like raindrops falling from the sky.
This fight came suddenly and ended just as quickly. Feihu, kicked by Zhao Heng like a meteor toward the wall, saw in horror as Zhao Heng grabbed a companion's head and pulled it down, then raised his knee to meet it. Bang! The sound of the knee and head colliding filled Feihu's world.
In the next second, Zhao Heng threw the bleeding pickpocket away and walked to Feihu, who was almost broken, and before Feihu could speak, Zhao Heng slapped him, causing two teeth to fall out and his mouth to fill with blood. Then Zhao Heng shouted: "Why should I?"
Feihu didn't dare to speak, feeling unprecedented shame.
Zhao Heng slapped his face roughly:
"Go! Make someone find the stuff!"
As Zhao Heng said, snakes have their own way!
After witnessing Zhao Heng's ferocity and brutality, Feihu and his men didn't dare to act rashly anymore. They all clutched their wounds and became submissive. Zhao Heng kept Feihu as a hostage and ordered the pickpockets to find Du Ziyang's admission notice within half an hour, or he would break one of Feihu's teeth every minute.
Feihu, seeing the beer bottle in Zhao Heng's hand, almost collapsed again. He fully believed that if the time limit was exceeded, Zhao Heng would knock out his teeth like cooked corn. So he drove all the pickpockets out of the restaurant, ordering them to find the notice as quickly as possible.
Seven pickpockets rushed out of the restaurant, leaving the waiters stunned, while Feihu stood by, too afraid to even breathe. Zhao Heng didn't look at him, just tapping his fingers in time with the clock, making Feihu feel as if the half-hour was passing like a rocket. He wished he could stop the clock.
"Brother, this train is long, with over a dozen carriages."
Feihu's lips twitched, forcing a bitter smile: "It's not impossible to find what you lost. We can find it, but there isn't enough time. Could you give us another half-hour? I promise they will find what you lost." His forehead was covered in sweat, and he looked at Zhao Heng with hope.
Zhao Heng didn't speak, just tapping his fingers.
His silent and stern expression was like a volcano ready to erupt.
Du Ziyang had gone from shock to admiration. She never expected this man she had just met to be so strong and domineering, subduing the pickpockets so thoroughly. She took out her phone and sent a text, determined to do her best to resolve the trouble she had caused Zhao Heng.
As her text was sent, the railway police, who had been alerted, were called back by the train conductor. Everyone received clear instructions not to interfere, making the police who had received bribes from the pickpockets feel a bit uneasy. This was clearly a setup to watch Feihu suffer.
Then they realized Feihu had kicked a hornet's nest. They wanted to warn him but feared getting involved themselves, especially since Feihu, under Zhao Heng's threat, didn't dare to move. So they dispersed, using the excuse of restaurant disinfection to drive away the passengers, to avoid embarrassing Feihu.
Everyone was muttering: Who has the power to suppress the Qing Gang?
Ding! A text message came to Du Ziyang's phone.
Zhao Heng slightly turned his head and glanced at the girl reading the message:
"Sending a message to your family?"
Du Ziyang smiled softly: "Yes, I'm reporting my safety to my father."
Hearing the word "father," a hint of melancholy flashed in Zhao Heng's eyes. This soft expression made Du Ziyang feel a curious interest. Perhaps because of Zhao Heng's overwhelming presence, the unintentional display of melancholy and loneliness seemed even more profound and touching.
Zhao Heng struck her heart like lightning. For some reason, smelling Zhao Heng's scent, she suddenly felt a sense of returning to her father's side, feeling secure, warm, and safe, with a hint of沧桑 (沧桑 means "沧桑" in Chinese, which can be translated as "weathered" or "aged" in English, but in this context, it conveys a sense of life's experiences and the passage of time). She felt that Zhao Heng was full of mystery and believed he must have a moving story.
"Is this the notice?"
A pickpocket rushed into the restaurant, half-kneeling and presenting a red card. It was exactly one minute before the half-hour deadline. Feihu, grateful, almost burst into tears, relieved that his teeth were saved. His eyes quickly turned to Zhao Heng:
"Is this the notice?"
"It is! You really found it?"
Du Ziyang's face showed a hard-to-hide surprise, clearly not expecting the pickpockets to find the notice. She looked at Zhao Heng with gratitude. Feihu, hearing this, felt his legs go weak but was fortunately supported by his subordinates, or he would have knelt on the ground. Zhao Heng didn't say much, just waved his hand:
"You can go."
"But remember, if you want revenge, come to me."
Zhao Heng pointed at Du Ziyang: "If you cause her trouble, you'll regret it."
"Never, never."
Feihu and his men responded, with forced smiles and respect. Although they indeed had thoughts of future revenge, they weren't foolish enough to fight back now, as it would only bring them more trouble. Moreover, Zhao Heng had already exposed their intentions.
Feihu and his men quickly left the restaurant, as if chased by evil spirits, not daring to look back.
In the admiring gazes of the waiters and manager, Zhao Heng remained calm. Du Ziyang happily put the notice in her pocket, patted it, and smiled at Zhao Heng: "Zhao Heng, thank you. I didn't expect you to have such power, even finding something lost on a train, saving me a lot of trouble."
"You're welcome!"
Zhao Heng waved his hand: "Are you feeling better now?"
Du Ziyang nodded, regaining her composure:
"Very! Let me treat you to a meal!"
Facing the girl's joyful expression and a hint of admiration, Zhao Heng smiled and shook his head, patting his already seven-tenths full stomach: "No need! I just finished a meal. Eating again would make me crawl back to my room. Besides, it was just a small favor, no need to worry about it."
"Then let me say thank you again!"
Du Ziyang smiled: "And please take care of me in the future."
"You're welcome."
Zhao Heng laughed: "We should help each other."
At that moment, Du Ziyang's phone rang sharply.
