Solen quietly returned home.
Vivian was still sleeping soundly in bed, a faint smile on the corner of her lips. But then it seemed as if she had a bad dream, and a look of fear appeared on her pale face. She murmured in her sleep, "Brother!... Don't go!... Don't leave me!..."
"No!"
"Don't grab me!... You're all bad people!..."
"Heath... Bite them!..."
"Ugh ugh ugh."
"Heath... What's wrong with you?... Don't scare me..."
Vivian's small hands waved around aimlessly, her eyes still closed, but her slender arms seemed to want to hug something.
Solen, who was about to change his blood-stained clothes, quickly came over and gently patted the little girl's back. But it seemed as if he touched something, and Vivian's face instantly showed a look of pain. Solen quickly lifted her shirt and immediately saw a dark purple bruise on her back, which had already turned black. It was a wound left from being beaten with a stick, and the internal bruising had turned black due to the blood not dispersing.
In an instant!
Solen's face turned extremely dark, and a fierce killing intent flashed in his eyes.
He tenderly stroked Vivian's cheek and carefully put her shirt back down, muttering, "Silly girl!"
"Why didn't you tell me you were hurt?"
Such a serious injury.
She must have been afraid to worry him, as she had managed to endure it without telling him.
The bruise on her back had already turned black, indicating that she had been injured for some time. The fact that she had been able to take care of herself for so long despite the injury made Solen's eyes moist with a warmth and emotion he had never felt before. In the era of the stars, the welfare was so good that parents didn't need to raise their children, and children didn't need to support their parents. Family ties were something very familiar yet strange to him!
But in this little girl, he felt a warm current in his heart.
He was a person who went with the flow.
The past half month had already created a deep bond between him and the little girl, and he no longer felt as strongly nostalgic about his solitary life in the past.
"It's okay."
"Everything will be better tomorrow."
Solen gently stroked Vivian's small head, comforting her as she had a nightmare, and whispered, "Tomorrow I'll get you some healing potions. This injury will definitely be fine, and there won't be any scars left."
Vivian gradually calmed down.
Solen got up and took off his clothes, revealing a lean and muscular body. He threw the blood-stained clothes into the stove and then looked at the scars on his body in silence. It seemed that Solen had had a very hard life in the past. A young boy raising a three-year-old sister was almost impossible through normal means.
He had fought and even killed people!
A young man of only eighteen had dozens of scars all over his body, indicating that he had narrowly escaped death many times.
These scars were from street fights and the whip marks left after being caught during thefts.
Although he was just an ordinary teenager, the experiences he had gone through were probably more rugged than those of many professional adventurers!
A faint light appeared.
Solen put on a clean set of clothes. Vivian was a very diligent little girl. Although she was only eight years old, she always did what she could to help.
The house was always kept clean, and the clothes were neatly folded.
He touched his face, feeling the sharp contours, and noticed that his ears were slightly more pointed than those of ordinary people. This was because Solen's father was a quarter-elf, so he should have an eighth-elf bloodline. This was why he was more agile than many ordinary people, as the agility of elves was almost innate.
The darkness did not obstruct Solen's vision!
Almost all half-elves had some night vision, making them the best assassins in the dark shadows.
"Very good foundation."
Solen moved his wrists, and the dagger danced around his fingertips, drawing cold flashes. "Although I don't have a hero template like a professional, and my attributes can't be reallocated, my overall quality is better than many people's."
"The only drawback is strength."
"An ordinary person's attribute value is around 10, and a strength of 12 is about the same as a laborer at the docks."
"I don't think he has deliberately trained, always relying on skill to face everything!"
"Very high agility!"
"But without proper combat training, high agility is less useful than high strength."
"At least strength can directly defeat opponents!"
Solen switched the dagger to his other hand, and the rapidly moving dagger almost turned into a blur. His left hand was exceptionally agile, even more so than his right.
This was an innate talent!
If he could train a bit, he could master the dual-weapon combat skill, which would be a very good combat ability.
"Strength improvement requires experience."
Solen's figure gradually became blurry in the darkness, and he whispered, "It seems there are no tasks now, so the ways to gain experience are much fewer."
"But I think killing should still grant experience."
"I don't know."
"Whether the thief's lock-picking and trap-removal skills can grant experience."
Killing experience.
This is the highest level of experience, which can be allocated to all professions, part-time jobs, and career templates!
As for the experience gained from a thief's lock-picking and trap-removal, it is only a lower-level professional experience, which can only be used to improve the thief's level.
Similarly, the experience a wizard gains from copying arcane scrolls is the same.
In "The War of the Gods," gaining experience is not easy. Relying solely on killing monsters doesn't yield much experience. Sometimes, a legendary-level adventure challenge, where the final target might be an adult dragon or a lich, would only yield a few tens of thousands of experience points, barely enough to improve one or two professional levels. It took Solen several years to reach the legendary level as a thief, during which he killed three dragons and six liches.
Only a third of the team that accompanied him on this journey survived!
The rest were forced into the River Styx cycle.
"Universal Handyman."
A glint appeared in Solen's eyes, and he said solemnly, "I wonder when the weakness after soul resurrection will disappear. If I can regain the Universal Handyman skill, my strength should greatly improve!"
The night grew deeper.
Solen put away the dagger, placing it where he could easily reach it, and then carefully climbed into bed.
Vivian's small body unconsciously snuggled closer to him, and she murmured in her sleep, hugging his arm with her slender arms.
The next day.
Solen was awakened by a slight movement. Vivian looked at him for a while with her head tilted to the side, and then a sweet smile appeared on her lips.
She carefully climbed out of bed, but a look of pain appeared on her face when she touched the wound on her back. She then put on her old shoes, picked up the broom, and started cleaning the room, wiping the simple furniture. When she saw the bloodstains on the floor, a look of fear appeared on her face, and she quickly ran over to lift the blanket, making sure Solen was not injured before patting her chest and cleaning the bloodstains with a cloth.
As long as Solen wasn't injured and bleeding, she didn't care about anything else!
When she was very young, Solen had once fought with a group of older children over a silver daler they had found.
Solen was surrounded and kicked by the older children, and she hid in a corner, crying. As a young child, she had no strength, and in the end, she mustered up the courage to pick up a stone and throw it at the leader of the older children. The angry child slapped her, causing her face to swell and a baby tooth to fall out.
She still remembered the situation, even though she was very young at the time!
When Solen saw her fall, he seemed to go crazy. He had been hugging his head and silently enduring the beating, but suddenly he pounced like a wild animal, biting the ear of the older child.
The bloody ear was torn off!
Solen, with bloodshot eyes, picked up a stone and smashed it into the older child's head, continuing until the blood was flowing. A terrified Vivian ran over and pulled him away, preventing the older child from being killed on the spot.
Although he eventually died.
The body was discovered many days later, floating in a dirty ditch outside the slums, unrecognizable.
They had already lived a very hard life, and they had nothing but each other!
Vivian didn't care if Solen was a thief, if he had committed crimes, or if he had killed people, because she was willing to bear half of all his sins!
...
Vivian carefully cleaned the room.
When she saw the empty rice bag, a look of worry appeared on her face, but she then muttered to herself, "Brother has already woken up."
"Very soon, it will be full of rice and wheat!"
She trusted Solen, a trust without any reservations!
She had experienced hunger, even going without food for a period, but her brother had never let her down, even when the food was stained with his blood, which made her heart ache.
But she still firmly believed that as long as her brother was there, everything would be fine.
Yes.
Everything will be fine.
So she quickly put aside this small worry, humming a tuneless song, and cleaned the room thoroughly.
Solen slowly got up.
He put on his gray, worn-out clothes, reached out lovingly to touch Vivian's small head, and said softly, "Stay at home today."
"In a few days, we'll move into the city."
Vivian nodded lightly, a look of joy on her face. She didn't think about how difficult it was to move from the slums to the city.
It required a large sum of money and a free citizen's status!
She trusted Solen.
Because Solen always kept his promises!
Even if he couldn't do something, it wasn't his fault; it was because there were too many bad people in the world.
The morning sunlight shone on the unremarkable, dilapidated shack.
Solen used a dagger to slice the hard, overnight black bread into pieces, and Vivian stood on a low stool, reaching up to take down the cooked rice porridge. Because of her small strength, her body swayed a bit, and Solen smiled, holding her and taking the old clay pot.
The little girl looked up, her pale face smiling sweetly in the sunlight, revealing two shallow dimples.
Everything was so beautiful!
