Piping Hot
The walls of the AMB were painted snow-white and the Meng Ji was pressed against the wall, biting his big tail, his light golden eyes wide open. Anyone could see how nervous he was at the moment.
This Meng Ji was very standard looking, with widely spaced ears, leaving a large head that looked good to touch, strong limbs, wide thick paw pads and a tail almost as long as its body. The silvery-grey fur had black ringlets distributed through it, leaving a soft white area on the chest down to the tail, with fine fluffy fur that felt great to the touch.
The age was a little younger than Pei Shiyi thought. Converting to human age, probably 15 or 16 years old, younger than Copper Coin.
Pei Shiyi found it strange – this little Meng Ji was obviously rescued by the AMB, so it was only logical that he would not be so heavily wary of the AMB. Or was it that he had suffered at the hands of the thieves and could not break away from his wary state for a while? Or was it that he survived in an unfriendly environment, therefore constantly emitting hostility towards his surroundings?
It happened that a kitten in the box gave a tiny purr, a sound that was quite usual, but at the moment in the silence, it was quite abrupt.
The Meng Ji bounced up violently, half a person’s height off the ground, his four paws spread wide and revealing his snow-white soft belly, in a frightened manner. After landing, the Meng Ji seemed to feel that he had reacted too much and immediately turned around and entered a face-saving state.
Pei Shiyi couldn’t hold back a little laugh, and the Meng Ji, annoyed, turned back to him and growled in a low voice, which at first glance was quite fierce, with cone-shaped sharp canines that were truly frightening.
Yet fierce to the point of colourfulness. Anyway, to Pei Shiyi, this kind of dry roar wasn’t scary – all bark no bite. This frightening nature is quite cute and when nervous two curved round small ears start twitching.
However, he seemed to have accidentally hurt the young leopard’s fragile pride.
Pei Shiyi slowly turned his gaze and renewed the Egyptian cat legend he had just half-told.
The Meng Ji huddled in the corner, keeping an eye on his movements, making sure the other man wouldn’t turn around anytime soon, before carefully getting back down in the corner, his big paw pad pressed against his tail and nibbling, his ears pricked up to listen to the conversation behind him.
“Is there enough room in the cat cafe if you take all the cats?”
This voice was that of the very fierce and capable Director of the AMB.
“Yes, I am going to create a separate area for the kittens on the first floor, enclosed by a glass wall, customers cannot enter, but the kittens can come out. I’ve thought about these cats too, not all cats want to stay in the cat cafe to deal with the flowing customers every day, if someone is willing to adopt them, I can consign them out.”
This was the man who laughed at him earlier, with a nice voice and a good temper.
Wait no, he was very mean.
The Meng Ji bit his tail: and to the cat cafe… What is a cat cafe? The kittens are being taken? Is he going to be taken too? It’s not like he’s a milk-drinking kitten.
He was walking away when his ears caught the sound of clothes rubbing together and he quietly turned his gaze. The tall, thin man was actually approaching him!
The Meng Ji immediately turned around and bared his teeth at him, but his body was close to the wall, looking inexplicably weak and even a little cowardly.
Pei Shiyi reckoned that if he walked over a bit more, the little Meng Ji’s first reaction would not be to jump over and bite but to leap straight up to the ceiling of the AMB.
For the sake of the ceiling of the AMB, Pei Shiyi stopped and kept a distance that was safe for both the bird and the cat. “Have you eaten breakfast?”
The Meng Ji had never seen this kind of greeting before and got stuck. “…No.”
Pei Shiyi bent his knees and squatted down, trying to reduce the feeling of oppression that his height brought to the Meng Ji. “Do you want to eat something? Do you want to let Director Bao make it for you? Or…eat takeaway?”
Bao Jin held the little curly-eared cat, his eyes didn’t even move. “The AMB doesn’t have a kitchen.”
What director, he was just flattering him, obviously only using him as a cook.
Pei Shiyi turned around and said in amazement, “You actually don’t include food? The treatment is so bad, no wonder there is always a shortage of staff.”
Bao Jin said, “You include food and shelter, but aren’t you still short of cats too?”
Pei Shiyi raised an eyebrow, “I won’t be short of cats soon.”
He turned around and the Meng Ji had somehow picked up his tail again, his light gold eyes wide and staring at him intently.
When he accidentally met Pei Shiyi’s eyes, the Meng Ji was startled and subconsciously bared his teeth and pretended to be fierce, but his canine teeth were already exposed and were silently retracted.
He obviously was still a child and was so wary, he must have suffered a lot as a child. Come to think of it, how could it not be difficult to maintain life on your own without parental protection? Such a child must have craved affection.
Pei Shiyi said, “Hello, I haven’t introduced myself to you. My name is Pei Shiyi and I run a cat cafe.”
When the Meng Ji grew up, apart from his parents who had passed away, no other living being had ever been so gentle to him. He felt weird all over his body and twisted his head. “Yin Zhou.”
As soon as the words were out of his mouth, he regretted that his tone had been too harsh.
“Mhm, Yin Zhou.” Pei Shiyi nodded. “This name really suits you.”
Yin Zhou silently glanced at him.
“You have just heard that I run a cat cafe,” said Pei Shiyi. “I have many cats in my cat cafe and they are all around your age. Would you like to go and see them? If you like them, you can stay there. However, there are many customers in the cat cafe, you can ignore them, but you can’t bite or scratch them.”
Pei Shiyi did not feel that a beast that had been enlightened could endure solitude and that Yin Zhou secretly longed to have communication with other beings. Pei Shiyi started talking from the moment he entered the door, and Yin Zhou kept his ears open to listen, but probably because he had grown up in a dangerous environment, he was always strong and fierce, clumsily covering up his curiosity.
“A cat cafe is a cafe, do you know what a cafe is? It sells some food and drinks, and my cats are also in the cafe and come out to hang out when it’s open, to sleep or to find customers to play with. Do you like humans? It’s okay if you don’t like them, you can ignore them and you can just play with me, okay?”
“Hm… do you like me?”
Yin Zhou’s eyes burst with an eagerness he hadn’t even noticed and listened intently.
As Pei Shiyi spoke, he slowly reached out his hand and tentatively placed it on top of Yin Zhou’s head.
Yin Zhou was shocked, and subconsciously turned his head and bit Pei Shiyi’s hand.
Having lived alone for so many years, he had long since developed the instinct to fight. Having just listened to Pei Shiyi and imagined the cat cafe from what he said, he was unprepared for Pei Shiyi’s sudden reach over and his body reacted faster than his mind.
Yin Zhou froze in Pei Shiyi’s arms and suddenly felt sad: He had messed up again. He clearly didn’t want to bite anyone. He didn’t dare to look at Pei Shiyi, but he could feel him freeze completely when he bit him. Yin Zhou let go, turned around silently and faced the wall again.
He’s this mean, it’s no wonder everyone’s afraid he’ll be annoying; kids like him are better off left to themselves.
When Pei Shiyi was bitten, he didn’t feel anything, and his reason was almost broken – It was completely painless. With Pei Shiyi’s cultivation base, he had already practised to be impenetrable, not to mention that Yin Zhou didn’t use any strength, but…
Pei Shiyi lowered his eyes and there was an obvious saliva mark on his hand.
A saliva mark!
Pei Shiyi took a deep breath, unable to take his attention away from his own hands at all.
He was born with a lot of dislikes, and while he didn’t mind the drool marks, it was clearly impossible to tell him to be calm.
Pei Shiyi was silent, staring dead at the back of his hand, as if it had been sealed by someone, staying like that for half a day. Bao Jin sighed and walked over to silently wipe the paw of this troubled bird.
Pei Shiyi’s seal was lifted and he patted him: Not bad, not bad, he was quick to act this time.
Bao Jin was stiffened by his pat, the temperature of the phoenix’s palm was on the high side and the “burning” piece of skin that was touched became slightly numb.
Pei Shiyi didn’t notice anything unusual, so he left Bao Jin behind after the compliment and went to concentrate on coaxing the cat.
The Meng Ji’s fur was dense and thick, with slightly stiff tips. It felt like a solid plush doll in his arms. The charm of the big cat was unstoppable, they were not milky and delicate, their beautiful claws and teeth were hardened with the sharpness of age, and they had grown a skeleton and stature that could support themselves. If they were lazy, their fierceness was contained but not revealed, making them even more attractive.
However, Yin Zhou was not yet grown up, and this charm was tinged with a bit of youthfulness.
Pei Shiyi once picked him up, his heart and fingers sank into the soft plush, his tone softened. Saliva was just saliva he was still a kitten after all.
He squeezed Yin Zhou’s big thick paws. “Yin Zhou, you didn’t mean to do that, did you?”
Yin Zhou twitched his ears and nodded after a bit.
Pei Shiyi, “Then would Yin Zhou like to live with me? Or do you like the AMB? Do you like Director Bao?”
Yin Zhou quickly shook his head.
Big cats and small cats love a presence that brings warmth, and the Meng Ji, who lived in a snowy region, would also be sunbathing after eating and drinking. Although Director Bao was a hot, living person, his temperament was really unapproachable.
Pei Shiyi, “I like Yin Zhou, I want to take care of Yin Zhou, and I also want to see Yin Zhou grow into a big Meng Ji with my own eyes, can I have this opportunity?”
Yin Zhou was silent for a moment and twisted his head into Pei Shiyi’s arms.
Pei Shiyi hugged the big ball and turned his head to raise his eyebrows at Bao Jin: He’s mine.
Bao Jin’s hands were clasped together and his eyes were drooping as he spaced out, completely oblivious to Pei Shiyi.
Pei Shiyi, “…” Failing to show off, Pei Shiyi ground his teeth- what was he thinking?
……
Egg Yolk kept going around the cat cafe, making Yun Chao’s eyes dizzy. She was coaxing Fondant and the kittens and didn’t want to bother with anything else, but her feline instincts made it impossible for her to ignore the shopkeeper.
Fondant was vey sticky every day when she first wakes up, wishing she could grow on Yun Chao.
Yun Chao patted her tail and said impatiently, “Can you stop walking in a circle? Are you the land lord? You won’t be able to go to the AMB even if you spin two hundred times so calm down, the staff will be coming over soon.”
With a kitten on his head and one on his back, Egg Yolk said, “I’m anxious! And didn’t the boss say yesterday that he might also bring something over…”
“A Meng Ji,” said Copper Coin, kicking a ball. “That type of cat is very stupid. Hey, what kind of cat do you think the Meng Ji will be? I’m a leopard cat, what is he? A leopard cat too? Wouldn’t that be the same as me? That’s not good.”
He had seen a Meng Ji and fought with him as a child, and knew what the cat looked like, which was also similar to a leopard and had flowers on it, and frankly, beautiful.
Yun Chao licked his front paw. “Then you’re also the stupid, who can compare to you?”
Copper Coin, “I’m not stupid, all those girls online like me.”
Yun Chao thought indifferently: They only like you being stupid.
The cats talk for a while, and with a twitch of his ears, Egg Yolk heard the door open at the back of the cat cafe and scurried out with a whoosh.
Copper Coin, who was worried about contacting the Meng Ji followed suit.
Yun Chao had just stood up when she heard Copper Coin’s voice rise up. “It’s y-you-”
With a puzzled face, Yun Chao led Fondant to the back door and saw a large cat with black flowers on a white background, strong, with slightly shorter limbs but a long tail.
The new cat bounced three feet high.
Egg yolk and Yun Chao were equally confused, Egg yolk said, “Copper Coin, do you know him?”
The Copper Coin stammered, “Didn’t I say I fought a Meng Ji when I was a kid?”
Egg Yolk, “…”
Copper Coin howled out, “That’s him!”
It really wasn’t a gathering of enemies, it’s just a cat’s life was narrow and it was too hard to avoid it.
