Big Cat Mengji

Even if they were little bastards, they were still spoiled by Director Bao.

A helpless Director Bao took off his suit jacket, went into the kitchen and fried up some fish belly and chicken liver, and prepared a nutritious sick person meal for Penny and the Golden Retriever.

Yun Chao basically didn’t eat after dinner time in the evening, and when she saw that Fondant hadn’t eaten enough, she gave her plate to her.

The kittens had their fill of milk and fell asleep in a ball, each in their own way, lying all over the box. Egg Yolk felt uneasy and had to come over to check on them after a few bites, so he ran back and forth four or five times during a meal.

Bao Jin dried his hands and sat beside Pei Shiyi.

Not eating, Yun Chao had burrowed into Pei Shiyi’s arms, flicking her fluffy tail and resting her jaws on the crook of Pei Shiyi’s arm.

Miss Penny, the Norwegian forest cat, had been secretly watching the cats here and she really liked the atmosphere. The young cat cafe owner introduced her to Xian Chan Cat Cafe on the way here.

There were cat cafes in Miss Penny’s country, but this was the first time that Penny had been to one. The cats here are nothing like she expected – instead of being conditioned to be dull and sluggish, they each had their own personality.

It should also be a happy place to live in.

Penny laid on the mat and was rubbed by Fondant, who had just eaten.

This little ragdoll was sweet and sticky and would never have developed such a personality if she wasn’t extraordinarily well-loved.

And then there was the cold lion cat in the boss’s arms. Penny hadn’t seen such a species of her kind in years, so bespectacled and arrogant, but with gentle eyes when she came over for a lick.

The young boys, despite their rowdiness, were well-mannered and, despite their curiosity, were aware of their wounds, coming together with careful movements.

This place was definitely really good.

Penny was sleepy and slowly fell asleep.

Pei Shiyi took a comb from the side to brush Yun Chao’s hair and said, “What do those people want by stealing cats? Wouldn’t they have to raise the kitten they stole? Why don’t they just breed them themselves?”

Bao Jin, “It’s too expensive to do the breeding themselves, they only want cats with good qualifications that grow up to be psychic, such spiritually intelligent cats are after all a minority, it’s not cost effective for them to raise a thousand just to keep one.”

The tail that Yun Chao had flicked was right next to his hand. Bao Jin looked at it for a moment and raised his hand to stroke Yun Chao’s back. The little girl was in a good mood at the moment, so it shouldn’t matter if he pet her a couple of times.

But a girl’s tail can’t be touched casually.

Yun Chao glanced back at him, then lazily returned to Pei Shiyi’s arm.

Bao Jin, “Stolen adult cats with owners will definitely be sent back, the rest are the kittens that need to be re-homed, apart from this litter, there are a few more in the AMB, a total of twelve…”

The room full of fluffy ears perked up at the same time, and Egg Yolk desperately gave Pei Shiyi a wink: Go for it, boss! They’re ours if they want to come!

Pei Shiyi: “What? They’re all for me? First off, if you give them all to me, I won’t be polite, the cat cafe is in need of cats.”

Yun Chao even changed her earlier attitude of being insensitive and took the initiative to stuff her pink furry paws into Bao Jin’s hand, graciously gesturing for him to squeeze them at will.

Bao Jin gently rubbed Yun Chao’s paw pad. “No one else can keep so many cats if I don’t give them to you. What I’m saying is there’s a Mengji1 in there, almost an adult, with a rather bad temper, you should go and see if you want to keep it tomorrow first, if not I’ll think of something else.”

Mengji, the king of snowy regions, was a leopard-like beast, good at jumping and climbing. In terms of personality, they were even more fierce and arrogant than a Zhu Qian. Pei Shiyi’s greatest impression of Mengji was it’s tail – Mengji’s had a large hairy tail about the same length as its body, and unlike the fluffy tail of a long-haired cat, a Mengji’s tail was thick and fluffy, and felt more solid.

Mm, Pei Shiyi had also played with such fierce big cats.

When he had eaten his fill, Copper Coin sank down on the blanket and smacked his lips. “I know that Mengji are not very good-tempered, but they are a bit silly and easily frightened, and when they are frightened, they jump very high. Thinking about it, I even had a fight with one when I was a kid.”

Who knows how this stupid cat had the nerve to call other cats stupid.

Pei Shiyi said, “How come you’re still sending him to the cat cafe when he’s almost an adult? It’s not the same as Copper Coin coming over to work, he will definitely be uncomfortable.”

Although Copper Coin was forcibly hired, the Mengji was sent directly after being rescued by the AMB. The two processes were different and the Mengji would inevitably feel like a parasite.

Bao Jin said, “As a matter of fact, he shouldn’t be. The boy’s parents are gone and he’s not doing too well alone, otherwise such a big monster wouldn’t have been caught. It’s just that the boy is too bad-tempered and may hurt people, and his transformation is unstable, so we still need to find a temporary guardian for him.”

The Mengji was also a fierce beast, and this little one had a particularly bad temper, and needed to be watched by someone who could hold him back.

Pei Shiyi pondered for a moment and shook his head. “I can’t give you a definite answer either. It’s not a big deal to have an extra cat, but you can see the daily operation of the cat cafe. There are people coming in and out of the store. He’s a big cat and I can’t lock him upstairs. Raising a child takes time, it’s not something that can be solved by scolding and confinement.”

What’s more, Pei Shiyi had read the many regulations of the AMB, and the penalty for intentionally hurting someone was very heavy. If the Mengji stays at the cat café, he might meet unreasonable customers, which undoubtedly increased the risk of hurting someone.

Bao Jin also knew this. “If you can’t I’ll go back and discuss it with Sponge Cake. Around the time Sponge Cake comes to you during the day, he won’t be alone with the Mengji, and at night I’ll go back, and it’s not like I won’t be unable to subdue a Mengji.”

Pei Shiyi squeezed Yun Chao’s paw pad and frowned slightly.

Raising children in this way will obviously not solve the problem, but may increase the Mengji’s loneliness.

He tsked and said, “Although it’s a pain in the ass to stand and talk, I still have to mention that your method won’t work. If he stays alone and doesn’t communicate with people, will he learn to restrain his temper in the future? He will eighty percent grow more crooked and more withdrawn, and you will worry even more when he is released as an adult and gets into trouble.”

Egg Yolk nodded repeatedly. “That’s true, children still need to be taught properly.”

Bao Jin, as a candle dragon, grew up without a father or mother growing up alone as a dragon and raised rather crudely. He did not know that there was still this way of raising children, and was slightly stunned.

Pei Shiyi was not the type to just watch and gossip, plus it was no joke, so Pei Shiyi said, “I’ll go with you tomorrow and take a look, it’s best to put him at my place.”

When Pei Shiyi was younger, he was also very naughty, and he didn’t believe that this Mengji could be even more out of place than he was.

……

The next day.

Pei Shiyi warned the few fur children in the house before he prepared to leave the house with a hundred worries.

Egg Yolk crouched in the doorway. “Don’t worry boss, I’ll keep an eye on the kittens, they’re also over two months old and they’re not that fragile.”

Pei Shiyi said, “Miss Penny is still sleeping, so you shouldn’t call her. She is still injured so let her sleep more.”

Egg Yolk nodded. “Got it, boss, you should quickly go and hurry back.”

Only then did Pei Shiyi rub his cat head. “Then I’ll go over first.”

Egg Yolk waved his paws.

Bao Jin was waiting at the AMB early in the morning, leaning in the doorway of an office with Sponge Cake in his arms. The older one, with a sleepy face and the younger one, sleepy-eyed, just stood and dozed off.

“Why didn’t you wait inside.”

Pei Shiyi walked over.

Sponge Cake heard the familiar voice and snapped awake. “Mister!”

Pei Shiyi held Sponge Cake’s paw. “Good morning, Sponge Cake.”

Sponge Cake pushed on Jin’s arm and tried to get close to Pei Shiyi’s face. “Is Mister coming to pick up kittens? I want to go and see too.”

Pei Shiyi cooperated by bending down, the plush touch brushing his cheek. “Okay, let’s go see them together.”

He straighted his back, saying, “Let’s go.”

As if Bao Jin hadn’t had enough sleep for one day, his gaze was still hazed. “This is the room, the Mengji and the kittens are both in this room.”

He pushed open the door to the office, which had been temporarily vacated and contained two other desks. In the corner diagonally opposite the door, a large ball with black patterns on a white background, its back to them, the large fluffy tail standing out. He only twitched his ears at the sound of talking, refusing to turn around and continuing to shut himself away.

Bao Jin and tapped the back of Pei Shiyi’s hand, signalling to him: The Mengji.

He transmitted his voice to Pei Shiyi. “He’s been like this since he came and didn’t move for a whole night. Fierce to anyone and till now has yet to bite someone.”

Pei Shiyi nodded. So the little Mengji wasn’t bad to the point of it being unreasonable.

He pretended not to see the Mengji and walked straight towards the Long Que.

The Long Que was inside looking after the kittens, holding up two bottles to feed them and getting tangled up in a few of them.

Pei Shiyi laughed. “The kittens are basically over two months old, theres no need for bottles, just bring some shallow bowls.”

The Long Que tapped his forehead, “Oh okay! I’ll go look for them, there should be some.”

She put the bottle down and hurried out to find a shallow bowl.

Pei Shiyi gave a bottle to Bao Jin and proceeded to feed them.

Sponge Cake whispered, “They’re so small.”

“Yeah.” Pei Shiyi fished up a little kitten. “Sponge Cake also used to be this small. They will all grow up later. Sponge Cake will grow into a majestic Bi An and will definitely be beautiful.”

Sponge Cake grabbed at the box.

It’s amazing that such a small kitten can one day grow to be as big as him… Will that orange one be as fat as the shop manager later?

Pei Shiyi held up his Sponge Cake. “Look at that tabby cat, does it look like the shop manager?”

Sponge Cake nodded. “Will he grow fatter?”

Bao Jin said, “Being a little chubby also looks good.”

Also nice to the touch.

Sponge Cake, “There’s also a cat with rolled ears! What kind of cat is this?”

Pei Shiyi said, “Curly-eared cats2 are a foreign breed of cat. Their ears curl backwards and they look very cute. Does its ears make it look like a small hamster?”

The litter included both domestic and cats with breeds, and Sponge Cake asked all the ones he didn’t know.

Pei Shiyi ran the cat cafe and in few months had turned him from an introductory novice and self-taught to an expert in cat ownership, and he could say something about any cat.

Even Bao Jin listened intently, not to mention Sponge Cake, and finished feeding all the kittens without delay.

Pei Shiyi’s gaze swept across the Mengji in the corner, who had quietly turned his ears and was listening intently.

Pei Shiyi was talking about the legend associated with the Egyptian cat when he suddenly stopped talking.

Sponge Cake listened with fascination and anxiously said, “Mister—”

Pei Shiyi raised an eyebrow and smiled, indicating that he was in no hurry.

Sponge Cake nodded sensibly.

However, while he could hold back his curiosity, the black-patterened dumpling in the corner could not, and quietly turned his head to meet Pei Shiyi’s eyes.

With his tail in his mouth, the big hairy dumpling first shrank back, randomly bracing himself to glare at Pei Shiyi.

Curious, pitiful and fierce.

The author has something to say:

Pei Shiyi: Telling stories to coax children.

Bao Jin: Listening to the story.

Long Que: Huh, where are my bowls?
