Sure enough, as if to verify Qin Yi's damned premonition, the police car arrived at the intersection. It had originally intended to turn and head towards the small farm, but halfway through the turn, it reversed and stopped in front of the two of them!
Qin Yi, holding a somewhat nervous Angel, stood up and looked at the two police officers in uniform who had gotten out of the car. Angel's eyes showed some fear; her left hand clutched a teddy bear, and her right hand tightly held onto Qin Yi's, turning slightly pale from the force.
Qin Yi patted Angel's little head to comfort her and then looked at the two police officers. The male officer was about 35 years old, with a serious face and neatly dressed. He walked over, carefully examining Qin Yi. The female officer, with a casual ponytail, looked at Angel while glancing at a photo in her hand, her eyes filled with pity and a hint of regret.
Qin Yi's heart sank. It seemed something had really happened, and it was related to Angel. He took a step forward and said, "Hello, officers."
The male officer replied, "Hello, we are from the Great Falls City Police Department. I am Broad Gary, and this is Janet Charles." He showed his badge to Qin Yi, and the female officer also presented hers, both from the Great Falls Police Department.
"May I ask who you are?"
After Qin Yi had a clear look, the two officers retracted their badges. Broad looked at Qin Yi with some confusion. According to the records, Sophie Susa was a single mother living with her 4-year-old daughter, with no known associations. Who was this Asian man, and why did he seem to have a good relationship with the little girl?
"Oh, hello, I am Qin Yi. My home is at the nearby Sun River Ranch. On my way back, I saw Angel waiting for her mother alone, so I stayed to keep her company. What exactly happened?" Qin Yi explained briefly, eager to know what had happened.
Broad knew about the Sun River Ranch. It had recently changed ownership, causing quite a stir. He had heard that the new owner was a Chinese person, and it turned out to be this young man in front of him.
"Hello, Mr. Qin, I apologize, please wait a moment!"
Broad looked at Qin Yi again, not rushing to answer but turning to Angel, "Hello, are you Angel? Has your mother not come back yet?"
Angel didn't answer, looking up at Qin Yi.
Qin Yi patted Angel's little hand, encouraging her and giving her a sense of security.
Feeling Qin Yi's encouragement, Angel turned her head and spoke softly to Broad, "Hello, I'm Angel. I'm waiting for my mother to come home!"
At the end of her sentence, Angel's voice became choked, and her little heart sensed that something might be wrong with her mother. She leaned closer to Qin Yi, wanting to rely on her Uncle Yi!
Qin Yi quickly picked up Angel, wanting her to feel his care.
Broad confirmed that the little girl in front of him was indeed Angel and, without further delay, said with a regretful look, "Mr. Qin, this is the situation. Angel's mother was in a car accident on her way back. She is currently receiving treatment at the hospital."
Janet glanced at Angel, who was silently crying on Qin Yi's shoulder, and said in a light tone, "Of course, Angel's mother is just sick and will be fine after a couple of days in the hospital. Then she can play with Angel again!"
This sentence, though seemingly directed at Qin Yi, was actually meant to comfort Angel! It seemed that this officer Janet had a very delicate and kind heart.
Qin Yi quickly added, "Angel, don't worry. Your mother just had a fall, and Uncle Yi is the best doctor in the world. Uncle Yi will treat your mother, and she will be fine in a couple of days!"
Sigh, another car accident. I hope she isn't seriously injured!
Hearing Qin Yi's words, Angel lifted her head, tears streaming down her face, and looked at Qin Yi with hope, "Uncle Yi, can you cure my mother, right?" Her little nose twitched, and she cried sadly!
"Of course, Uncle Yi would never lie to the cute Angel!" Qin Yi wiped the tear-streaked face of the little girl, speaking with a very firm tone.
Hearing Qin Yi's words, Angel felt much better. Although her nose still twitched, she stopped crying.
"Uncle Yi is the best person in the world, just like my mother!"
Hearing the innocent words of the little girl, Qin Yi felt a warm feeling in his heart. He felt even more affection for the poor Angel and was more determined to cure Angel's mother, if the spirit grass was effective!
Looking at the pitiful Angel, Broad, who had been very serious, now looked sympathetic. How could God let a 4-year-old child suffer so much!
Since they had found Angel, it was best to take her to the hospital to see her mother as soon as possible. Janet smiled and said with a caring tone, "Angel, let's go see your mother! Mr. Qin, would you mind accompanying Angel?"
Although she knew that Qin Yi, who showed such affection for Angel, would definitely go with them, Janet still asked out of politeness.
"Of course, just call me Yi. Let's go now. Angel, I'll take you to see your mother!" Now that Angel was relying on him, Qin Yi felt he couldn't let a child's trust be in vain. Besides, Angel was very cute and well-behaved, and he liked her more and more!
Angel tightly hugged Qin Yi's neck and nodded, resting on his shoulder.
Just as Qin Yi was about to place Angel in the passenger seat of the pickup truck, Janet took out a child seat from the police car and helped Qin Yi secure it in the passenger seat, explaining seriously, "Yi, Montana law requires that children under 6 years old must sit in a child seat!"
Law? Qin Yi didn't know that, but looking at the child seat, it did seem safer for children.
"Thank you, Janet. I almost broke the law!" Qin Yi looked relieved. If he had been taken to the police station for this, his reputation would have been ruined!
It seemed he needed to buy a child seat for the car. With these thoughts, Qin Yi said seriously to Janet and Broad, "Janet, Broad, I just arrived from China and am not familiar with the local laws. If you notice anything wrong with my behavior, please remind me!"
Janet had already secured the child seat and gestured for Qin Yi to place Angel in it, smiling, "You already know about the child seat. Also, when you see a school bus, you should pull over and stop until it passes."
Broad added, "There's also a law about child protection. You can't let children run around without a guardian, though it's not strictly enforced unless you run into child protection or animal protection organizations!"
"Thank you, you've been a great help!" Qin Yi fastened Angel's seatbelt, patted her head, and closed the car door, quietly asking about Angel's mother, Sophie.
"Yi, let's talk about the details at the hospital. Mrs. Susa is awake and conscious, with no life-threatening injuries. Otherwise, we wouldn't dare bring Angel to see her, as it would be too cruel for the child!" Janet's eyes reddened, thinking about the 4-year-old girl who had lost her father and now had her mother in a car accident, truly a pitiful situation!
Without further delay, Qin Yi followed the two officers in his car, occasionally telling small stories to distract Angel.
After about an hour, the two cars finally arrived at the hospital. Qin Yi carried Angel and quickly followed the two officers. On the way, Broad had someone notify the attending physician, John, and they didn't waste any time, heading straight to the ward.
This was a regular ward. Standing at the door, they could see a beautiful young woman lying on the bed, her face pale, a bandage on her head stained with blood. She was looking out the window with a blank expression.
Janet opened the door and gestured for Qin Yi to enter. Qin Yi, looking at the woman on the bed, carried Angel inside. The woman, seeing her precious daughter, tears streamed down her face, her lips trembling, trying to speak but unable to.
Putting down the little girl who had been quietly resting on his shoulder since they entered the hospital, Qin Yi squatted down and whispered in her ear, "Angel, your mother is there. Go and talk to her!"
Angel's body trembled, resting in Qin Yi's arms, slowly turning her head. Seeing her mother lying in bed, she burst into tears and rushed over, sobbing and calling out, "Mom!"
Seeing her daughter crying, the woman couldn't hold back her tears and finally cried out, struggling to sit up to hug her daughter. However, the pain was so intense that she broke out in a sweat. The attending physician, John, who had just arrived, quickly stopped her. The woman, remembering her injuries, could only lie helplessly, reaching out to pat her sobbing daughter, comforting her with a tearful voice, "Angel, Mom... Mom is fine! Angel, don't cry. Mom will be fine in a couple of days. Then Mom will cook for you and play with you, okay?"
Angel's shoulders shook, and she couldn't speak through her sobs. She sniffled, looked up at her crying mother, and reached out with her little hand to gently wipe away her mother's tears.
"Mrs. Susa, you should control your emotions. Your current state is not good for your recovery!" John, seeing the pitiful mother and daughter crying together, didn't immediately intervene. After a while, worried about the impact on the patient's condition, he had to step in and play the role of the bad guy!
Hearing the doctor's words, Mrs. Susa tried to control her emotions, forcing a smile to comfort Angel, "Angel, don't cry. See, Mom isn't crying. Mom is fine and will be better in a couple of days!"
Qin Yi, with red eyes, also stepped forward and patted Angel's head, comforting her, "Angel, be happy. Your happiness will help your mother recover faster. Be a strong and good child!"
"Sniff, Angel... will be happy, sniff, Angel won't... won't cry, want Mom to get better quickly!" Angel was very obedient. Although her shoulders still trembled, she didn't cry out loud, telling the stories Uncle Yi had told her on the way to cheer her mother up!
Mrs. Susa smiled gratefully at Qin Yi, holding Angel's hand and listening to her tell the stories.
