Qin Yi turned and followed the doctor out of the ward. Due to the scene just now, the eyes of those present were slightly red, but no one felt awkward, after all, it wasn't embarrassing!
Qin Yi rubbed his face and walked to John's side, "Hello, John, I'm Yi. I want to know about Ms. Susa's injuries."
John looked at Broad, who shrugged, "It's fine, Yi and Angel have a good relationship, and besides, this isn't a secret, is it?"
Hearing this, John no longer kept it a secret, his voice tinged with relief: "Yi, as you can see, Susa has a head injury and a mild concussion, but that's not the main issue. Susa has a fracture in the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. Fortunately, the spinal cord is not damaged, otherwise, she would either be paralyzed or have some aftereffects. I can only say that Susa is very lucky in her misfortune!"
John adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and continued, "Susa's condition is stable, with a mild compression of the vertebrae. A few days later, she can start back extension exercises. With functional therapy, the compressed vertebrae can return to their original state. In 3 to 4 weeks, she can get out of bed and move around with the protection of a thoracic back brace."
"Thank you, John. However, Susa has a spinal fracture, why isn't she in a special care ward? Wouldn't it be a problem without a nurse watching her?" Qin Yi felt that a spinal fracture required constant supervision.
John helplessly adjusted his glasses, "Yi, it's not that we didn't arrange it, it's Susa's request! You know, a special care ward is a significant expense for ordinary people."
Qin Yi didn't say more; this wasn't the hospital's fault.
With nothing else to do, John left first, as he had some cases to organize.
The three sat down on the chairs. Janet glanced at Qin Yi, pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, and finally decided to talk about Susa's situation.
"Yi, do you want to know what happened to Susa? Of course, we all know that you and Susa don't really have a relationship, and if you don't want to get involved, no one will say anything!"
Qin Yi was about to ask, and hearing Janet's words, he smiled and waved his hand, "Why not, Angel and I are good friends!"
Janet smiled, it seemed this young Chinese man was going to take charge, what a responsible man! Broad, who had been sitting silently with a stern face, also showed a slight smile at the corner of his mouth.
Janet didn't keep them in suspense any longer and slowly began to explain Susa's background and the cause of the car accident.
Sophie Susa graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in accounting at the age of 23. She then found a job as an accountant in Los Angeles and married a programmer named Cliff in the same year. The following year, she gave birth to Angel. When Angel was one year old, her father, Owen Susa, fell ill. Susa wanted to return to Montana to help her father manage the farm, but Cliff disagreed. They subsequently divorced, and Susa returned to the farm with Angel.
The second year after returning to the farm, when Angel was two years old, Owen passed away. A few months later, Cliff died of a cerebral hemorrhage while working late on a program. For two years, Susa managed the farm alone and raised Angel, with little social interaction.
The car accident was related to a man named Price Charles from Big Falls. This man often harassed women and engaged in all sorts of deceitful acts, but he never committed major crimes. He would be in jail for a few days and then released, and the police couldn't do anything about him!
Today, when Susa was about to go home, she was verbally harassed by this scoundrel. Frightened, she quickly drove away, and the scoundrel followed her in his car. During the chase, Susa's brakes failed while turning, and she crashed into a road barrier, causing the accident.
Price has been detained, but even if he is prosecuted, he may not be sentenced to prison. He would only have to pay part of the medical expenses, as he did not threaten Susa's safe driving during the chase. This way, the evil Price might go free.
After listening, Qin Yi also felt the difficulty. If the scoundrel had physically assaulted her, it would have been easier to deal with. In this situation, it was hard to charge him!
Qin Yi was so frustrated that he wanted to curse. He smiled bitterly and said to the two, "This bastard is really cunning, I can't think of any way to deal with him!"
Suddenly, he thought of the lawyer Pete from when he bought the ranch. He nodded to the two and took out his phone to call the number he had saved. The call was immediately connected, but after Qin Yi explained the situation, Pete also had no solution. The scoundrel had found a loophole in the law!
The two were not surprised, they explained Susa's situation to Qin Yi, hoping he could help take care of this unfortunate mother and daughter when it was convenient for him!
After discussing the situation, the two didn't stay longer and returned to the police station to re-examine Price, looking for any overlooked details. Qin Yi watched their backs disappear at the stairwell, sitting silently, not knowing what to think. After a long time, he muttered, "Damn it!"
He stood up and walked to the ward door, looking through the glass. Angel was still telling her mother a story, trying to cheer her up.
Before coming, Susa had thought a lot about her deceased father, her ex-husband Cliff, and the hard work on the farm over the past two years. She had carried everything alone, with no one to share her burdens. But now, seeing Angel earnestly telling her a story, Susa felt content. Even if it was hard and tiring, as long as Angel could grow up happily, everything was worth it.
"At least I still have Angel!" she said to herself.
Qin Yi watched for a while, listening to Angel's childish voice, repeating the story she had told her on the way. He felt both comforted and heartbroken, comforted that Angel was a sensible child, but heartbroken that she had experienced so much at such a young age!
He pushed the door open, smiled at Susa, and nodded in greeting. Then he said to Angel, "Angel, let your mom rest more, so she can get better faster!"
After saying that, he turned to introduce himself to Susa, "Hello, I'm Qin Yi, your neighbor. You can just call me Yi."
Susa recognized this young man as her neighbor, a Chinese person, and the new owner of the ranch that had been renamed Sun River! Susa didn't interact much with others, but she wasn't isolated. She still watched TV and used the internet, so she knew about her new neighbor who had made the headlines.
She didn't expect the person bringing Angel to see her would be him, "Hello, Yi, I'm Sophie Susa. Thank you for taking care of Angel!"
Qin Yi smiled and waved his hand, looking at Angel, "No need to thank me, I really like Angel! Angel, shall we change your mom's room? It will help her recover faster!"
Angel, hearing that her mom would recover faster, was eager to change the room, "Uncle Yi, I want to change my mom's room!"
Angel tried to jump off the bed and pull Qin Yi to find a room! Susa quickly held the little girl's hand, smiling gratefully at Qin Yi. She didn't mind his interference, as it was for her own good. She said to Angel, "Angel, Mom will get better quickly here!"
Qin Yi guessed that Susa might have financial problems, otherwise, with such a dangerous injury, she wouldn't have refused supervision. He wanted to help the mother and daughter but needed to find a way to avoid making Susa uncomfortable.
Qin Yi walked to Angel and looked at her with a smile, "Angel, when you see the doctor, it's always your mom who pays. Now that your mom is sick, shouldn't you help pay for the doctor?"
Angel pointed to her chin with her little finger, thought for a while, and then said softly, "But Angel has no money!" Her big eyes welled up with tears!
Susa, not knowing Qin Yi's intentions, looked at him with confusion but also noticed that Angel was very close to this neighbor!
Susa couldn't understand why. Angel had never spoken to strangers, let alone been close to anyone. Therefore, Susa had always thought Angel had autism and often took her to see so-called experts for treatment, but Angel always resisted. Today, she had planned to take Angel to Big Falls to see a well-known doctor, but Angel cried and refused to go. Reluctantly, she left Angel at home and went to find a doctor to learn some autism treatment methods, but ended up in a car accident!
Regardless of Susa's thoughts, Qin Yi was surprised that Angel was so upset about not having money to treat her mom. He quickly hugged her and comforted her, "It's okay, Angel. Uncle Yi will lend you the money. When you grow up and earn money, you can pay Uncle Yi back."
Angel, hearing that she could borrow money from Uncle Yi, was immediately happy, "Really, Uncle Yi? Then I'll borrow money from Uncle Yi to change my mom's room, so she can get better faster!"
Qin Yi patted Angel's head and smiled, "Angel is a good girl, of course, Uncle Yi will lend you the money! Let's go find the doctor to change the room, okay?"
Angel nodded and kissed Qin Yi, then said to Susa in a grown-up tone, "Mom, you have to lie still, Angel will change your room!" and pulled Qin Yi to find the doctor.
Susa didn't stop her, seeing that Qin Yi genuinely liked Angel. The affectionate gestures were genuine, and a billionaire had no reason to play with them.
Qin Yi took Angel to find John and explained the need to transfer Susa to a special care ward. John readily agreed, made a call, and the room was prepared immediately. With the help of the doctors and nurses, it took less than half an hour for Susa to be safely transferred to the special care ward. The efficiency amazed Qin Yi, who couldn't help but comment, "If this were in China, just getting a bed in the hospital would be a challenge. Special care? Forget it unless you have connections!"
Looking at the special care ward with a bedroom, bathroom, and 24-hour high-level nursing, Qin Yi criticized the capitalist indulgence but then came to Angel's side, "Angel, stay here with your mom. Uncle Yi will go home and make some delicious food and bring it to you tonight, okay?"
Angel was about to continue telling her mom a story but, hearing that her dear Uncle Yi was leaving, became reluctant, lowered her head, and didn't speak, just holding Qin Yi's hand.
Susa quickly said, "Angel, be good. Uncle has to work."
Angel then let go of his hand, looked at Qin Yi with big, expectant eyes, "Uncle Yi, you'll come back tonight, right?"
"Of course, Angel, Uncle Yi will come back tonight and bring you some delicious food. I promise!"
Angel was happy again and tiptoed to kiss Qin Yi's face!
Susa felt a bit embarrassed, it was a lot to ask from someone they just met, but she hadn't made any friends in the past two years, and when she had an accident, there was no one to take care of Angel!
"Thank you, Yi, you've been a great help to us!" Susa's face was serious, remembering this kindness.
Qin Yi smiled, not caring, "I just like Angel, and I'm glad she's happy!"
Qin Yi left the room, glanced at Angel, who had already started telling her mom a story, and walked out.
In the ward, Susa watched Qin Yi close the door, withdrew her gaze, and listened to her precious daughter's story, smiling contentedly.
