Chapter 33

Susanna remained immersed in this magical and incredible state, excited for a while, before she remembered that Qin Yi had instructed her not to reveal anything. She quickly returned to bed and lay down.
For a long time, Susanna's heart could not calm down. The incredible things that had happened to her made her doubt whether the car accident was just a dream, and even meeting Qin Yi might have been a dream!
However, the fracture in her spine yesterday was not a lie. The pain, the helplessness of only being able to lie down, and the fear of potential aftereffects almost broke her!
In the end, it was Angel's crying and concern, and Qin Yi's thoughtful care that gave her comfort and strength. Otherwise, she would have doubted whether she could have fallen asleep at all yesterday!
At 6:30, when they returned to the hospital, Susanna was already awake and being helped with her morning routine. Seeing Qin Yi return, she didn't say anything but naturally smiled at him. Qin Yi set up the breakfast, went into the bedroom to wake Angel, who had been exhausted from the day's worries and was still sleeping soundly.
Since Susanna was already better, Qin Yi didn't plan to stay any longer. As for Susanna and Angel, he intended to take them back home. Susanna was worried that her spine healing overnight would cause trouble, but Qin Yi didn't think so. Since she hadn't had surgery, only an X-ray, they could just insist that the machine was faulty, and they would find a way to convince themselves. After all, if a fracture could heal overnight, you'd think you had met God!
As Qin Yi had guessed, when Susanna stood in front of them, they immediately suspected that the machine had malfunctioned!
Next, it was simple. The hospital staff took a few more X-rays, confirmed there were no issues, and quickly processed the discharge. To make up for their mistake, they even refunded all the fees.
Of course, there was a small incident. After the X-rays, a young doctor tactfully suggested a comprehensive check-up, including blood tests and organ examinations. As soon as he spoke, Qin Yi retorted, "Do you want my lawyer to talk to you?" The young doctor's face turned red, and the older doctors nearby looked up at the ceiling as if there were colorful flowers blooming up there!
Qin Yi found it amusing: Do you think you're God, that you can just draw blood whenever you want?
Taking Susanna and Angel out of the hospital, they got into the car and headed home. Susanna's car, after the collision and a 360-degree spin, was totaled. Fortunately, it was insured, so they could buy a new one with the insurance money. Passing by a store, Qin Yi got out and bought a few child seats, placing them in the back of the pickup truck, then continued driving home. To entertain Angel, he continued the story of the skinny monkey fighting the fat wild boar, making Angel giggle in her mother's arms.
Of course, a two-hour drive required more than one story. Qin Yi racked his brain, sweating profusely, and finally, after telling the story of Little Doudou stepping on the big gray bear (a tribute to Mingyao), they arrived at Angel's house.
Susanna invited Qin Yi in for a cup of coffee, and he didn't refuse, especially since Angel, who was clinging to him, wouldn't let him go.
Inside, Susanna asked Qin Yi to sit anywhere and went to the kitchen to make coffee, while Angel ran back to her room. Qin Yi looked around the living room, which was simple and tidy but very warm and comfortable.
Soon, Angel ran back, holding a stuffed animal and toys, and said in a sweet voice, "Uncle Yi, these are my favorite stuffed animals and toys. I invite you to play with me!" She handed a stuffed animal to Qin Yi, looking at him expectantly.
Qin Yi couldn't help but laugh and cry at the same time, but he had to be happy to avoid hurting the little girl's enthusiasm. He played with her for a while, and then Angel remembered something, ran back to her room, and came out a minute later riding a tricycle, inviting Qin Yi to ride with her!
Fortunately, Susanna had just finished making the coffee and saw this scene, laughing, "Angel, Uncle Yi is tired and needs to rest. Come and have some juice with him!"
After calming Angel down, she smiled apologetically at Qin Yi and handed him a cup of coffee, "Sorry, Yi, Angel is so happy. I'm busy with the farm, and often no one plays with her!"
Qin Yi waved his hand with a smile, "You know, Susanna, I really like Angel. I love playing with her!" He said the last sentence to Angel, making her giggle and run over to kiss him.
After chatting for a while and finishing the coffee, Qin Yi got up to leave, causing Angel to pout and hold onto his hand. Susanna also tried to persuade him to stay for lunch to express her gratitude. Qin Yi didn't mind; they were neighbors, and there would be plenty of opportunities to eat together.
The hardest to deal with was Angel. Qin Yi patted her head and coaxed her, "Angel, Uncle Yi has to visit some neighbors, but you can come to Uncle Yi's house anytime, as long as your mom agrees!"
Angel, hearing that she could go to Uncle Yi's house, was very excited and looked at her mother expectantly. Susanna, unable to resist her pitiful eyes and not planning to stop her anyway, nodded. Angel was overjoyed, hugging Susanna and then turning to hug Qin Yi, feeling incredibly happy!
Back home, Qin Yi took a shower, had a meal, and then went to the wine cellar. After a week of brewing, the fruit wine was ready. Of course, it was drinkable, but for sale, it still needed two more steps: sterilization and clarification, and bottling.
Sterilization and clarification were easy with modern equipment. Cold and heat treatments could achieve sterilization, aging, and clarification. Qin Yi found several oak barrels, filled two barrels with each type of fruit wine, then clarified and continued bottling.
In the end, he had two barrels of each type of original wine and over a dozen barrels of clarified wine, enough to last a long time! Qin Yi tasted both the original and clarified wines. They were rich and smooth, with a long aftertaste. A gentle sip, closing his eyes, made him feel as if he were in a vibrant spring, his soul wandering freely in the blue sky and green grass. The clear, ethereal aroma made him feel transparent, peaceful, and content, as if the world were in his hands, or perhaps a return to nature.
At 3 PM, Qin Yi called Ryan to discuss the neighbors.
Ryan was dressed in his usual cowboy attire, as were most people on the ranch. He handed Qin Yi a cup of coffee, suddenly remembering that he had wanted to plant a coffee tree in Los Angeles but had forgotten about it in the past few days!
Qin Yi explained his thoughts to Ryan, "Ryan, I've been here for a while, but I haven't met the neighbors yet. I think I should find a chance to get to know them."
Ryan took a sip of coffee and thought for a moment, "It's important to get to know them. In America, maintaining good relations with your neighbors is crucial." He paused and continued, "However, this is a ranch, and the houses are quite far apart, so it's not possible to gather often. Most of the time, you just wave when you see each other on the road."
Qin Yi understood, "So, you mean I should show goodwill and a willingness to get along with the neighbors, but not try to force it?"
"Exactly, Yi. You're the owner of a 124,000-acre ranch, and the neighbors are small ranch owners. It might sound harsh, but the circles are different. So, just send a friendly signal. If someone invites you to a party, go if you have time. Of course, if you get along well with some neighbors, you can gather more often, and they can become friends."
Qin Yi nodded, understanding how to interact with his neighbors. Since that was the case, he decided to focus on improving the ranch and let other things happen naturally.
Thinking about the ranch, he hadn't checked the new grass since he had been busy with Ye Fang. Now that Ryan was here, he didn't need to go himself.
"Ryan, how's the new grass?" Qin Yi was eager; if it was ready, he could start improving the farm.
Ryan smiled, "Ha, you haven't seen it with Ye Fang around. The grass has spread to a third of the ranch! I've already designated a fixed area for grazing, and we're feeding the cattle only the new grass. We'll see how the beef turns out by the end of the year and plan for next year."
Qin Yi was satisfied with Ryan's arrangement. Starting to feed the cattle the new grass now would definitely result in a batch of high-quality beef by the end of the year.
This year, the cows had given birth to calves, and next year, the meat quality would likely be even better. He should keep some of the male and female calves to improve the breed in a few years!
"Good, that's great. When it's time to harvest the new grass, set it aside. We'll see how it works in the winter. By the way, I've made some fruit wine. Take a barrel with you when you leave; it's all top-quality fruit wine!"
Mentioning the fruit wine, Qin Yi was proud. It was made from fruits from the space, and he wouldn't give it to just anyone.
Right, he should also send two barrels to Susanna; she was Angel's mother, not just anyone!
"Thank you, Yi." Ryan didn't pay much attention; he hadn't heard that Yi could make wine, and at his young age, how good could it be? But he was still happy; it was a personal gift from the boss, indicating a close relationship.
Ryan left with a barrel of apple wine, and Qin Yi began to think. Should he start the farm improvement project now? The spirit spring was full, and he could start the farm-to-ranch conversion at any time, but he hadn't decided how to proceed.
The improved seeds from the space were the best, but for 20,000 acres, using all improved seeds would be exhausting for Qin Yi!
He decided to plant ordinary rye grass seeds first. Once the rye grass grew, he would sprinkle the spirit spring water in the ditches. In a couple of years, the grass would be replaced with the new seeds. That's how he would do it; he couldn't rush things!
So, he would start the project in two days!
Just as he made his decision, Qin Yi's phone rang. It was Charlie, the client manager from Wells Fargo. He wondered why Charlie was calling. Thinking about it, Qin Yi answered, "Hello, Charlie, it's Yi."
"Ha, Yi, my friend, how are you?"
Charlie seemed very excited, but Qin Yi was puzzled by the unexpected call.
"Of course, Charlie, I'm doing well! Is there something good?"
Charlie seemed to be waiting for this question and couldn't contain his excitement, "Ha, Yi, I have to thank you. I got a promotion because of the ranch deal. Yes, I'm now the manager of Wells Fargo in Great Falls!"
"Congratulations, Charlie. Great Falls, it looks like we can continue to work together!"
It was good news for Qin Yi too. Familiarity would make communication easier.
"Yi, if you need anything, just let me know!"
After hanging up, Qin Yi went to the vegetable garden, which he hadn't checked in a few days.
