After staying here for two days, Susa wanted to take Angelie back to the small farm. After all, to put it bluntly, she and Qin Yi were just neighbors, and it didn't make sense to keep living at a neighbor's house!
When she mentioned her intention to leave, Qin Yi became a bit worried. The house was so big, and Angelie's presence made it lively. Moreover, who would play with him if Angelie left? After some thought, he decided not to let her go.
"Susa, the renovation of the small farm for tourism is about to start. There will be many temporary workers, and it will be noisy and chaotic, which is not good for Angelie's growth. Besides, it's not appropriate for you and Angelie to live among a group of men!"
Liu Qimeng rolled her eyes at this. Qin Yi was finding all sorts of reasons, but living at his house was supposed to be better...
However, she didn't want Susa and Angelie to move back either. Otherwise, the house would just be her and Qin Yi, with no good friend to chat with and no lively Angelie around. Such a life would be so boring!
"That's right, Susa. It's so nice living here. Angelie is having a great time, and we can keep each other company. Besides, living among a group of men would be chaotic and not good for you!"
Liu Qimeng was frustrated. She couldn't find a reason to keep them, so she had to use Qin Yi's words to persuade them!
Susa didn't have such concerns at first. Americans here generally didn't think about these things. But after Qin Yi said this, she thought it might be a serious aspect of Chinese culture and didn't want to give Qin Yi a bad impression. She hesitated about insisting on going back.
Angelie, however, was the weight that tipped the balance. Without saying a word, she just looked at Susa with her big, pleading eyes, and Susa's wavering resolve quickly disappeared!
In the end, Susa decided to stay a bit longer but didn't want to say it outright. She just nodded with a smile. This was enough. Qin Yi and Liu Qimeng breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Susa wasn't insisting on leaving, and Angelie cheered!
As for the puppy, after growing for a day and night in the space, it had become a half-grown dog. Although its bark still had a hint of youth, it already had a good deterrent effect.
After being strengthened by the spirit spring water, blood spirit fruit, and spirit yuan grass, the 11 puppies had broad, strong bodies, were highly alert, and reacted quickly. Most importantly, they were very smart and obedient, which Qin Yi found very satisfying.
However, they were still not fully grown. Currently, their physical strength and power were about the same as the ranch's Queensland Heeler dogs, but Qin Yi believed that once these puppies grew up, they would definitely surpass the current cattle dogs!
Qin Yi felt the puppies could go out now. They could familiarize themselves with the environment and learn some skills like guarding, hunting, and herding cattle. In a month, they would be fully grown and ready to take on the job of herding.
"Angelie, Uncle is going to town to get some things. Stay at home and play with Maggie and Teddy. Don't run around, okay? If you want to play with someone, go to the vegetable garden and find Grandma Susie!"
"Okay, Angelie will stay at home. Uncle, come back quickly!" Angelie nodded, hugging the puppy, and behaved very obediently.
Qin Yi patted Angelie's head, glanced at the puppy, and drove off with a smile.
Thinking back to when they first met, Maggie had wanted to catch the puppy for a snack, scaring the chubby puppy so much that it couldn't even run. If Qin Yi hadn't stopped her, it would have become fertilizer for the pasture!
After that, Qin Yi introduced them to each other and told them to get along. Of course, he mainly instructed the two brown bears, as the puppy was the weaker one!
Everyone was very obedient. Now, the puppy had become good friends with Maggie and Teddy. Even when Maggie lay down to sleep, the puppy would climb on her without any issues.
When Qin Yi returned from Augusta, he brought the puppies out of the space and had them jump into the truck bed. The height of over a meter was no problem for them; they leaped up easily. He told Hei Mi and Xiao Mai to keep the puppies in the truck bed and drove home.
When they got home, there was a flurry of activity. Maggie saw a group of wolf-like animals and roared in warning, as if they were invading her territory. The puppies, led by Hei Mi and Xiao Mai, were not to be outdone. They silently bared their sharp teeth and slowly surrounded the bears, ready to fight if necessary!
"Hey, hey! Guys, you're not enemies, understand? Not enemies, but friends!" Qin Yi quickly intervened and introduced them. "Come, Maggie, Teddy, these are our new friends, Hei Mi and Xiao Mai, and the puppies!" He then turned to the puppies and introduced Maggie and Teddy. "Puppies, this is Maggie, and this is Teddy. You're all friends now, so you need to get along and help each other, okay?"
The puppies and the brown bears relaxed and sniffed each other, officially getting to know one another.
Angelie was overjoyed to see so many puppies. She hugged them one by one and quickly became friends with them, leading the group of small animals around the ranch, introducing them to her home as if she were an adult, which would also be their home in the future.
Qin Yi went back to the house and cooked some beef to feed them, then took the puppies to the barn to familiarize them with their new home.
In the evening, Susa and Liu Qimeng returned. Seeing so many puppies, they had to be introduced again. At first, they were a bit scared by the fierce-looking puppies, but the puppies were very smart. Seeing how Qin Yi treated them, they knew they were part of the family and wagged their tails in a friendly manner.
"The vegetable garden and mobile homes can be built now, as well as the milk shed and stables. We need to start these projects so that we can welcome tourists once we buy the cattle and horses." These decisions should have been made by Susa, but now both Susa and Liu Qimeng were used to asking Qin Yi for his opinion.
"Let's start then."
Qin Yi was sitting under the pergola, using a dehuller to remove the inner fruit skin from the coffee beans. These were coffee beans from the coffee trees in the space. When he saw the coffee cherries turn red, he used a cloth to catch them as they fell, then dried them using the dry method. Now, he was removing the fruit and seed coats, and after roasting and letting them sit for a week, they would be ready to drink.
Originally, he had thought about uprooting the coffee trees after seeing how complicated it was to harvest coffee online. But he was glad he didn't, as the coffee cherries in the space all ripened at the same time, saving him a lot of trouble!
Qin Yi continued his work, looking up at the two women. "Do you need me to do something?"
"No, but you're the boss, so you should give some instructions," Liu Qimeng and Susa came over to watch him process the green coffee beans, curious and interested.
"Where did you get these? These green coffee beans look great. They are large, plump, evenly wrinkled, uniform in size, and have a fresh, glossy appearance with a rich aroma. Are these medium beans?"
Susa's comments left the two women puzzled. They didn't realize there was so much to know about coffee beans.
"These aren't medium beans; they are small beans, but they are about the same size as medium beans. Susa, how do you know so much about coffee? Have you studied it?"
Liu Qimeng also looked at Susa curiously. Although they often drank coffee, who would bother to study it?
"No," Susa smiled and explained, "I heard that in China, people drink more tea than coffee. In the U.S., many families buy green coffee beans and roast them themselves, so housewives need to know how to identify good coffee beans. That's me!" She picked up a few green coffee beans and examined them closely. "I've never seen such large small beans before!"
Liu Qimeng was no longer puzzled after the explanation and picked up a few coffee beans to smell. They were indeed very fragrant.
"Can you roast coffee beans?" Qin Yi was most concerned about this. If someone could roast them, he wouldn't have to do it himself. "You can roast them tonight. This coffee is very good, and once you try it, you won't forget it!"
Susa nodded happily. The coffee beans looked like high-quality beans, and she really wanted to try roasting them.
"Where's Angelie?" Liu Qimeng was surprised that the energetic little girl hadn't appeared yet. Usually, she would come to greet her mother when Susa returned.
"Maggie and Teddy were hungry, so Angelie took them to the vegetable garden to pick some vegetables."
Qin Yi couldn't help but laugh and cry at the thought of these two foodies, especially Maggie, who could eat a whole basket of vegetables in one sitting. Fortunately, the vegetables were improved and Qin Yi occasionally sprinkled some spring water, increasing the yield. Otherwise, the remaining vegetables after supplying the ranch wouldn't be enough to satisfy Maggie's big appetite!
