Returning to the campsite, Susa was about to start a fire to stew beef and potato soup when Qin Yi stopped her, suggesting that it would be more fun to go hunting together while they were out for a trip.
However, with eight adults and little Angel, it would be a waste of resources if they all went together. So, they decided to split into two groups and have a competition to see who could catch more prey within half an hour, with the losing team having to cook.
Lain led Trevor and Colin, along with nine dogs, in one direction, while Qin Yi took the five women and girls in another. Hei Mi and Xiao Mai ran back and forth as lookouts, and Mai Ji, with Teddy who played along the way, followed behind Qin Yi's group as a bodyguard.
It might seem unfair that Qin Yi's group had more people, but in reality, Susa had to carry Angel, and Liu Qimeng's poor shooting skills would only scare away the prey. Only Qin Yi, Kolo, and Christine could actually hunt, so the numbers were even!
As soon as they set out, Susa reminded Angel to be quiet, speaking in a very low voice so as not to scare away the small chickens and rabbits. If Uncle Yi couldn't catch any prey, Angel would go hungry! Angel nodded vigorously, not wanting to go hungry. Uncle Yi's grilled meat was always delicious, and the little girl, with her curious big eyes, looked around eagerly.
Kolo and Christine followed at the back, and Qin Yi asked them to protect the rear to prevent any ambushes. However, with Mai Ji at the back, no one would dare to attack. This was just to add some fun. They found it interesting to hold their hunting rifles and aim around, as this kind of outdoor adventure was a first for them.
Lain's group crossed a small stream and went to the other side of the small forest. The forest was only a hundred meters wide, so staying on one side would be too crowded.
Qin Yi's group walked slowly for a few dozen meters when Hei Mi and Xiao Mai, who were running ahead, suddenly stopped, crouched low, and stretched their heads forward, but didn't move forward. This was due to Lain's training; the dogs wouldn't attack unless ordered by their owner. Qin Yi thought that based on the dogs' performance, he could replace the current cattle dogs.
Noticing their behavior, Qin Yi understood they had found something. He signaled everyone to crouch and move quietly, slowly approaching Hei Mi. Looking ahead, he saw a large brown wild rabbit about twenty meters away, leisurely munching on a wild fruit, occasionally looking around, but ignoring the rear!
Qin Yi pointed, and Kolo and Christine also noticed, immediately getting excited. They both wanted to take the first shot, and in the end, they had to let Qin Yi decide who would shoot first!
It was just a rabbit, and there would be plenty more. Why argue so much?
Qin Yi scratched his head, unsure who to choose. They were all friends, and choosing one would offend the other!
Susa and Liu Qimeng also seemed interested, watching him intently. Only Angel, worried that the rabbit would finish its fruit and run away, looked anxiously at the fat rabbit. She wanted to eat Uncle Yi's grilled meat, but she couldn't interrupt the adults, or she wouldn't be a good girl!
Qin Yi was stumped for a few seconds, then a bright idea came to him. Hehe, I won't choose anyone; let them play rock-paper-scissors. This way, no one would be offended! He also noticed the rabbit's situation and didn't want to waste time; it would be embarrassing if it ran away!
"Let's play rock-paper-scissors. What's there to argue about? There will be plenty more rabbits. Hurry up, the rabbit is about to run away!"
Everyone was waiting for Qin Yi's choice, and upon hearing this, Kolo and Christine rolled their eyes and reluctantly played rock-paper-scissors. Susa and Liu Qimeng exchanged glances, relieved but also amused. Choosing one would offend the other, but not choosing anyone would offend both. Qin Yi didn't realize this!
Qin Yi rubbed his nose, noticing everyone's expressions. He understood why Kolo and Christine rolled their eyes; the idea wasn't great. But what was with Susa and Liu Qimeng's expressions? They were so tense about the rabbits!
Rock-paper-scissors, one round to decide. Kolo won and happily raised her fist, remembering they were hunting and not cheering out loud, or the rabbit would be scared away!
"Don't celebrate yet, the rabbit is about to run away!"
Susa reminded her with a small laugh. Kolo quickly aimed her gun, one eye closed, her mouth slightly curled, looking very cute. Qin Yi chuckled and watched her for a few more seconds.
"Bang!" The rabbit fell, and Kolo cheered, wanting to run over, but Hei Mi and Xiao Mai were faster, immediately running forward to retrieve the rabbit. Kolo happily patted their heads in praise.
"Wow, Aunt Kolo is so amazing!" Angel, who had been worried, was very happy. Now they would have grilled meat to eat!
Kolo, already very happy, smiled even wider when Angel called her "Aunt." She had just turned 18 and didn't want to be treated like a child anymore. Angel's "Aunt" hit the spot, and she hugged Angel's face and kissed it, then proudly showed the rabbit to Christine, making her a bit envious!
Of course, this was just friendly banter, with no ill will.
Continuing on, having the dogs made hunting much easier. They just followed Hei Mi and Xiao Mai, who ran around happily. When the dogs took a stealthy stance, Qin Yi's group would search in the direction they were looking, easily finding prey.
For a while, the small chickens and rabbits in the forest suffered. With both groups hunting, gunshots rang out every two minutes or so. Qin Yi wondered if they would hunt all the small animals in the forest! But there was no need to worry; within a week, other small animals would move in. The ranch had plenty of wildlife.
This hunting competition was just for fun, and Qin Yi wasn't determined to win. Besides, although Lain's grilled meat was good, Qin Yi preferred his own cooking.
In Qin Yi's group, Kolo and Christine did most of the shooting, and they mostly hit their targets. Each time they caught prey, Angel would cheer and look at them with admiration, making them feel very satisfied!
After 20 minutes, Qin Yi was holding three wild rabbits and two wild chickens. He thought Lain's group would have caught even more, enough for all nine people. For the remaining ten minutes, he let Susa and Liu Qimeng take their turns!
Liu Qimeng knew her shooting skills, but watching others hunt made her itchy. She had been eager to try, and when Qin Yi suggested it, she was very happy!
For the ten minutes, Susa didn't shoot, giving Liu Qimeng all the opportunities. She was lucky and encountered five prey, and she actually hit one, making her smile from ear to ear!
Actually, the only one she hit was because the bullet ricocheted off a rock and hit the rabbit's head by chance, which made everyone laugh, especially Angel, who was in Kolo's arms, praising Liu Qimeng's skills, making her laugh so hard she couldn't straighten up!
But Liu Qimeng didn't care; she had hit something!
She would practice more and outdo them all next time.
Back at the campsite, Lain's group was starting a fire. They had caught about ten wild chickens and rabbits, a good haul. Seeing Qin Yi's group return, they immediately checked the prey he was holding, noticing it was less than theirs. They were happy, and Trevor immediately asked them to cook, meaning Qin Yi, as they had all grown to love Chinese cuisine, but it had to be authentic.
"Alright, guys, let you taste some Chinese grilled meat!"
"Uncle Yi's grilled meat is the best!" Angel smacked her lips, looking forward to it for a long time!
Everyone was also looking forward to it, and seeing Angel's eager little face, they all smiled, feeling relaxed and happy!
