[Should I Explore the Cave?]

The next morning, I was lucky to wake up without getting attacked from the sky.

I pushed the soft dry grass to the side so that I could confront my biggest problem yet.

――Peeing.

Even though my gender had changed, it was a problem that every human being had.

Moreover, I remembered reading in a book that when you barely had any water, the urge to pee increases.

While I did manage to avoid the immediate food crisis with the use of the item inventory function, there was nothing I could do about the lack of water.

Speaking of fluids, there were two types of acceleration potions that had 20 potions for each type. There were also four types of increased resistance potions that had 10 potions for each type.

The ice cream was very rich in water, but as expected, there wasn’t enough left.

You could get it if you defeated an enemy with the item drop equipment, but…. Whether it was a game or not, I would feel sorry from reaping the benefits from the fight.

“At any rate, if I drink or eat it’ll come out all the same. It really can’t be helped since it’s a part of nature.”

I started preparing by first digging a hole with the one-handed sword I had equipped.

Never would’ve I imagined that the day would come where a sword was used as a shovel.

Since a girl would need to wipe after the act, I prepared the grass that I used as a blanket yesterday.

Because it would be troubling for the Magic Knight outfit to get dirty, I changed into yesterday’s robe before doing the deed.

The cloak’s mantle and robe was also adorned with various decorations and I felt that it would become dirty if I didn’t switch it out.

It was immorally exciting to take off the clothes of a young maiden with my own hands…… really, it was great.

“Phew…”

When I cleaned up afterwards with the rough grass, it stung and felt a bit itchy. The grass around here did not seem to be a good match for soft skin.

I wanted to search for a more softer grass, but I’ll put it off for now. There were many other things to look into. It would be pointless to waste my time and energy now.

I carefully buried it and erased any traces of it. As one would expect, I wasn’t as bold as to leave it out in the open.

“Now, before I explore… should I check the other functions first?”

Last night, I managed to learn how to use the inventory and equipment windows.

However, I was so tired that I fell asleep before I could have had the chance to check out the other functions.

“First, the map function–”

I tried to manipulate the shortcut key that called out the map.

Then, In front of me, a transparent thirty centimeter square window opened and displayed a map of the surrounding area.

“Oh…… but, it’s kind of a nuisance to always have it shown”

It couldn’t be helped that it got in the way since it was right in front of me. I would have to open it only when it was necessary.

“Even then…… It’s worthless!”

I raised a voice of despair as I looked at the displayed map.

Even when it was enlarged, the maximum range of the map could only display up to the shrubs.

Moreover.

If I were to use the three shrubs as reference points, I would guess that the distance being displayed was only five kilometers in every direction?

Since it originally had the capability to display terrain, it could be a big help in reaching a destination without getting lost, but in this situation, it was utterly useless.

“Good grief, this functions a waste when you can only see the horizon”

Next, I opened the party window. Of course, since no one would form a party with someone who specializes in solo play, nothing was displayed. Sad…

I then changed tags and the friends list was displayed.

There were only a few acquaintances here that were registered as net characters.

Since Midgard Online allowed you to register several characters that you made, I had a decent amount of experience in making a character. As a result, my friends list was wide because of that …… However, none of them were connected.

Also, when I opened the quest window, there was no active quest. This situation didn’t seem like a new game feature.

“That’s right… after all, MGO is still a monitor display game.”

Moving on, there was the status window and the skill window.

None of these had really changed from the game.

“My offensive ability, magic ability and evasive ability didn’t change since the status count remained the same. As for skills… I’m really not sure if I should use them since I want to refrain from exchanging my life”

The Magic Knight’s main skill was based on basic attacks. There was also a skill that allowed you to speed up HP recovery when you were on standby, but it had no meaning right now since I wasn’t injured.

After that, there was also the mounting skill, though there were no animals around here to ride on.

I then tried to use the GM call and whisper function, but nothing happened. As for the Log out function, I couldn’t even find it anywhere.

In the end, I couldn’t change my current situation with any of the functions which resulted in my entire morning being spent.

“Well then…… should I explore the north side first?”

Since the sound of water could be heard from within, the possibility of there being water in the cave was high. I didn’t wish to be separated too far from here and become like a lost child.

The map function would display the terrain, but it did not show roads, signs or enemy locations. If there was a river, it would have been displayed, but nothing was shown on the map. In other words, there wasn’t a place in the vicinity that had water.

The goal now was to find a safe way of securing the water that was in the cave.

“I also need to check my stamina”

Ymir had the endurance to fend off stun attacks to a certain degree, but it wasn’t clear how much influence stamina had over it.

I really didn’t like the idea of fighting on my own, but since I was thrown out into a strange place as a game-like character, then it was possible that I could be attacked by game-like enemies.

If you fail to manage your stamina during a battle and get exhausted, you could get killed.

For me, it was urgent to understand one’s own body capabilities.

“Alright, LET’S DO THIS!”

I pushed through the grass that went up to my waist and started to run northwards.

I managed to scale the top of the map, ensuring that the rock remained visible. If I went out any further than this, the rock would disappear from the map.

So far, I didn’t see anything new aside from one shrub.

This meant that there were no roads, rivers nor villages in the 10 kilometers range that went north.

“Nevertheless, this is amazing……”

I had pushed through about five kilometers of tall grass. I did all that hard work and was barely breaking a sweat.

While it was true that a stamina value was never established in the game, this kind of stamina was unheard of.

I wasn’t sure if this was due to Ymir’s equipment correction which may have adjusted her capabilities by a hundred or if it was just the normal capabilities of the natives.

“Above all that, this speed. Even though I was running through five kilometers of uneven ground…”

It would be an hour’s walk if it was on leveled ground, but it was grassy and rough terrain. It could even be three times as long. But, no matter how much I ran-

“Perhaps…… has five minutes passed yet?”

If you were to run at a pace of 100 meters per 10 seconds, your speed was 36 kilometers/hour. Now, if you ran 5 kilometers every 5 minutes, then your speed would reach up to 60 kilometers an hour.

Moreover, I wasn’t even running at full power.

Even if I say that Ymir’s agility had reached its max limit…… This was still strange.

“I wonder if I made a mistake with the map’s scale? Did the map only have a span of a kilometer on all sides?”

If that was the case, then a kilometer in 5 minutes would equal a speed of 12 kilometers/hour. If you include the rough terrain into the calculations, it was reasonable to say that it may have been slightly slower.

Then, wouldn’t that mean that I was really short?

“No, no, it’s not that low nor is it that kind of error range… Anyhow, let’s go back to the rock”

Eventually, I had gone around the east and south-west portion of the place while saying “Let’s run till I get tired,” though the only thing I managed to find was a few shrubs.

“There’s really nothing around here……”

I couldn’t gain anything from this at all… well, not necessarily.

I found out that I was not tired even when I had ran for about half an hour.

Since I had a longsword on my back, this body’s stamina was probably quite high for it to endure such a burden.

“Hmm…… should I investigate the areas where the map no longer shows the rock……?”

As I considered what I was going to do, I took a bite out of the fish that I got from the inventory for Lunch.

The map was developed in such a way that the East, West, North and South were distinctly attached to one side, so if I only advanced in one direction then I surely wouldn’t lose sight of the rock.

The only problem was that, if I lost sight of it then I wasn’t sure I could find it again.

“It’s scary to lose sight of it since I’ll lose the water…… but at the same time, I also don’t want to go into the cave? To begin with, I still wasn’t sure if it even exists. Rather, to say that I should examine the cave where the suspicious cry of a beast resounded, sounds nothing but trouble…… Hmm?”

As I spoke to myself to distract my uneasiness, I felt as if I heard something.

“Was that from…… the cave?”

It was faint…… but I certainly heard a person’s voice.

“…… Kku…… hikku…… fue~e”

“Who is it! Who’s there!?”

I unintentionally shouted back to the first voice I heard today. It seemed to be from the hole where I heard the cry of a mysterious beast.

It couldn’t be, it would be strange if a voice could be heard from such a place. To begin with, it was the voice of a young child.

“…… Someone…… help……”

“Damn, It really is in there!”

No, calm down…… there was a story of a beast that could imitate human voices. If that was the case…… then the voice could be baiting me towards it.

But…… What if it really was a child’s voice?

Could I bear the fact that I abandoned them?

In the first place, if it was Ymir-

“That’s right, if it was Ymir…… She wouldn’t ignore it at all!”

Most of the time, MMO characters did not have a personality. Regardless of the storyline, Midgard online was a scenario free game which meant that characters did not have a set personality.

But… I had a great time assuming that she did since I was roleplaying as her.

Even though she was downgraded, Ymir was a knight amongst knights. To abandon a kid…… I had no memory of such a character.

I let out a yell to dispel the anxiety, took out the longsword from my back and stepped into the cave.

It was pitch black inside of the cave and without light, my vision would only have been as far as a small phone.

The concept of light did not exist in Midgard Online, so there was no such thing as a magic torch or a magic light. Naturally, Ymir didn’t have it.

“Should I be glad for choosing this sword…… ”

Even if it wasn’t bright, the sword that I chose had its fire attribute activated by auto cast which gave it a faint glow in the darkness.

While the light wasn’t enough to reach 10 meters, it still did illuminate several meters around me.

The floor near the entrance was covered in dust so it rose up with each step I took.

“This beast or whatever it is hasn’t come this far……”

You could say that nothing had gone through here since there was a lot of dust here.

Maybe they were nocturnal animals so they hated the light. Was it safe around the entrance?

As I looked at the entrance, I couldn’t help but think that this cave was made by people.

The area near the entrance was narrow, but when you went down the stairs and reached the ground, the path became wide enough to fit five people walking side by side. The width…… may have exceeded 5 meters.

Then, the passage evenly leveled out and the walls stood vertically. It was clearly man made.

“As I thought, it was man-made. Anyway, the voice seems to be deeper inside…… The voice, it surprisingly reverberates”

After a bit of waiting, I started to move as I kept my footsteps as light as possible.

After a while, I reached a place where the path separated to the left and right. I didn’t know if this was natural for a cave, moreover a manmade one.

I didn’t know which path to take, so I modestly called out towards the back.

“Hey…… which one is it?”

“Kukekekekeke”

“Hii!?”

What returned my call was the ominous cry of an animal.

“Going this way is bad…… Let’s do the opposite way. Wait, don’t I have a map?”

I took out the keyboard and called out the map.

Then, a complicated route appeared before me.

“Oh, did a dungeon map appear?”

Midgard Online’s map was designed to collectively display every area and every level.

Unlike the game, it seemed impossible to display an area-by-area view outside, but in the dungeon you were able to see a full view of the area.

The displayed map was complicated all around and was quite large.

In it, I focused on one small room.

The room was located on the right side and you could see that a semicircular shadow was close to the room’s wall.

In the game, these shadows were either pillars or ponds, and these were signs that a sealed object existed……

“I’m sure there’s something either way. Let’s go”

Besides, it’s a small room, if it had a door then I might be able to rest.

With little expectations, I decided to head for the room.

That’s it for today.

I’ll post again tomorrow.

Translator Corner:

Yo, friendly translator here. Just going to put this out, if y’all noticed that there were slight changes to some words in previous chapters, well… you’re not seeing things. I’m pretty much going back and forth to fix certain parts that didn’t make sense as I progress through the story. Like in the previous chapter, apparently MC didn’t transmigrate with a thin “jacket”. Instead MC transmigrated with a thin “sleeveless robe undergarment”. It took me this chapter to realize that mistake in the previous chapter. So, just watch out for those slight changes/errors.

Also, just found out this story had 200+ chapters. Well, if no one takes over, I might just do the whole thing since this is apparently completed. I will keep y’all updated if something happens with irl stuff so that y’all won’t be like, uh… dude? Chapters? You alive?

Aside from that, hope y’all enjoy the translation.
