[The First Battle]
Before I could take Alicia outside, there was something I had to do first.
That was to prepare her defenses.
Currently, Alicia was just a common five year old little girl.
I had no intention of fighting, but I feared that once the doors opened, I would be attacked and forced into a battle.
Which was why I was fishing through my items for equipment that could strengthen her……
“Hmm, it’s difficult when everything here is basically for the third job”
The third job was the highest ranking tier which included the Magic Knight class.
In Midgard Online, you started in a beginner class called Novice where you learned the basics. Then, you would advance to a basic job depending on your preferences.
Close combat fighters such as the Swordsmen and the Bandit.
A magician who dealt with the art of magic.
An Acolyte who was responsible for support and recovery.
The Archer, a vital long-range attacker.
A Merchant who dealt with trades.
And even a musketeer and a ninja.
While these were only basic jobs, there were a diverse variety available.
Furthermore, they tended to be divided further in the second job which then had the ability to further be divided into a higher specialized job, which was the third job.
Todome, who had the third job, had reached its upper limit and had fully released the job’s capabilities. With his abilities further sharpened, he showed the fighting power capable of solo hunting Area Bosses.
Even Ymir, who was known to be an eccentric character, was flexible enough to hunt an Area Boss, so you could easily guess the strength of the third job.
Of course, the equipment was specialized in its own way so there were many restrictions based on class and level.
I prioritized these equipment since, at the time, I would have challenged the infinite ice labyrinth where I would have to continuously battle the boss.
“Oh, isn’t this good?”
I took out the Wings of the Archangel from the item inventory. It was a shoulder gear that mimicked the wings of an angel.
While this was equipment for the Novice class, it granted a moderate increase in HP.
Moreover, it had the ability to further increase attack speed by 10% if I carried it.
The increase in HP was not that much for me, but from a Novice’s viewpoint, the increase would be ten times the original.
“Alicia, put this on”
“Uh… yes- this?”
“Oh……”
Here, a naked little angel girl had descended. Seriously, Alicia-chan was such an angel!
“Dangerous, I’m getting a nosebleed”
“Onee-chan, is your nose hurting?”
“It, it’s ok…… I’m still fine”
Hold on my reasoning!
Speaking of which, since the time that I found her, she had not been wearing any clothes.
I was too young to get sexually excited, but her charm was enough to make you want to hug and pat her.
“Well first of all, shoes and clothes…… though it makes me wonder what Alicia’s profession is? Is it Novice?”
“Hmm?”
“No, this one. Put this on for the time being”
“Ok”
I took out a shirt made from dragon skin. It had the effect of increasing agility.
It could be equipped from level one, but it was restricted for the higher ranks.
If Alicia was able to wear this, that meant her rank was higher than Novice. Though, with that said, I was pretty sure that she wouldn’t be able to wear this.
“Onee-chan. I can’t wear it”
“Ah, as I thought. It can’t be helped so wear this for now”
I handed over the sleeveless undergarment that I had used as a towel. Even if I had already used it as a towel, it was already dry.
It was barely long enough to cover my crotch, but if it was for someone with Alicia’s height, then it should be just right.
The wings were unfastened for a moment, then the clothes were put on before I re-equipped the wings on her.
I then had her put on shoes that had glass decorations.
As expected of a magic equipment, it automatically adjusted itself to her feet. I didn’t notice it in the game, but it had such a feature like this.
These shoes also had the effect of slightly increasing magic defense and also augmented your HP by 10%.
With this, Alicia’s HP should be about 10 times the HP of a newly created character.
“How is it?”
“Un, it’s good”
Additionally, I also had other equipment like weapons, shields, etc… but none of them were really suitable for Alicia.
Though, even if you were to get hit, you should be just fine.
The Crown of Sacred Flames could cover the head and made for a spare light source.
Since the crown had no restrictions on level or occupation, it was possible for Alicia to use it.
“…… with that, Alicia should be able to use [Fireball]”
“Really? Can I really use it?”
“Maybe, but not right now”
“Ehh…”
[Fireball] could be used, but it was likely that Alicia did not have the MP to use it.
Of course there were equipment that could increase MP, but…… I couldn’t just let a child use such dangerous equipment, so let’s hold off on that.
“You ready? If so, let’s go”
“Un!”
I steeled myself and pushed open the door.

The red light of the cursed sword and the light from the Crown of Sacred Flames shone through the unlit passageway.
In particular, the crown unexpectedly played a huge role in our lighting, so I wasn’t worried about our current pace.
“It was like this……”
“You never saw this passage Alicia?”
“– yeah”
Did she get lost in the passage ways and ended up getting sealed?
Could that be it……
Where did she come from and why was she captured…… Perhaps because I was thinking of such things, that I was late to notice the approaching sounds of wings.
“Ah! The sound of wings?”
“What?”
Alicia, who didn’t seem to have grasped the situation, had a puzzled look on her face.
There may have been dangerous creatures in this cave so they were very vulnerable.
In a panic, I quickly checked the front as well as the back. Unfortunately, this was still a long winding passage and it had already been a while since we passed the fork-road passage.
While I could just run back to the room with Alicia in my arms, if we were stopped just before the room, then we might get caught.
Also, while I wouldn’t need to worry about food for a while…… it’ll be the same as if she was sealed up again.
While the foreground of the map looked complicated, you could see that there was a stairway that seemed to lead to the lower floors from the fork in the road.
As for a detour to the entrance– it didn’t exist.
“Damn it, to escape or to fight, aren’t those the only two options I have”
It’s usually set that for dungeons like this that as you go deeper into the caves, stronger monsters would come out.
Of course, this labyrinth was in real life, so it wouldn’t necessarily follow that rule…… Nevertheless, the risk was too much.
Of course, we had the means to hole up in the small room.
The fish and the Mochi combined was enough food to last us two months. Water also gushed out of the fountain.
However, it was different if I was the only one. Together with Alicia…… It was no good.
She was a very curious little girl. What if I had to leave the room and took my eyes off of her for just a moment.
After all, I wouldn’t be able to see her whenever I went to sleep.
“I have to fight…… Alicia, step back. Make sure to stay close to me though, ok?”
“– un, ok”
I guess she felt how tense I was. She replied with a firm expression.
The fluttering sound of flapping wings had already made it to about ten meters ahead.
I quickly reached towards my stomach, called out the keyboard and operated the shortcut keys.
While it could be said that the width of the road was wide, this was still an underground cavern.
With the cursed sword [Murasaki’s Flame] equipped, [Meteor Crash] and [Mist Freeze] could be auto casted.
[Meteor Crash] was an offensive type magic that summoned a downpour of meteorites from the sky.
[Mist Freeze] was another offensive type magic that spread a frozen mist to your surrounding area.
Both were range based offensive magic, and were difficult to use in situations where Alicia was nearby.
In the game, I never had an incident where I bombed my own allies, but I didn’t know how magic worked in this world, and if by any chance that [Meteor Crash] did summon meteorites to fall from the sky, I didn’t want to see it cause a cave-in since it was guaranteed that we would be affected.
“While it is troubling, for occasions like this, I should use weapons that don’t have any ranged attacks……”
It was a good thing that the item inventory and the equipment window were on the same screen. It made it easier to replace equipment on the go.
For my safety, it was better to prioritize equipment that had HP increase and damage reduction, but the sound of multiple wings were approaching.
If it went around and got behind us, Alicia would be attacked.
How do I keep it in place in order to quickly eliminate it–
“Mana Blade…… for the time being, let’s see how the fire attribute would do”
The longsword I have equipped had a mechanical gimmick to it.
The sword had a slot at the base of the handle where certain cards could be inserted to auto cast a single offensive magic.
While the level of magic was low, its ability to gradually increase offensive magic was incomparable to the cursed sword [Murasaki’s Flame].
The equipment was also replaced with something that emphasized attack speed, which kept the limit level of the speed.
I was afraid of being beaten here, but I believed in the endurance of the magic knight.
“Squeak Squeak Squeak!”
Just as I replaced my equipment, the thing that had been making the noise appeared.
With the light that came from Alicia’s Crown of Sacred Flames, a richly coloured one meter long bird could be seen.
Their numbers, three birds.
Their tongue dangled loosely from their beak, their bloodshot eyes fell upon me.
They didn’t look friendly at all — but……
“…… slow… why are they slow?”
Its speed, frankly it was slow.
It was as if it was a fly that seemed to be flying fast, yet could still be clearly seen.
In comparison, its fiendish appearance didn’t make it seem as if they were easy going at all.
“Uhhh…… Take this!”
It wasn’t necessary for you to receive an attack in order to do something special.
As it was said, “Victory goes to the one who makes the first move.” I drew near the first one, jumped into the air and beheaded it from the neck.
Like a heated knife to butter, I cut off its head which gently fell off as I passed it in the air.
As for the next two birds, I easily cleaned them up with a swing of my sword.
Before the auto cast function had even randomly activated, the battle had already ended.
“…… Well, we were saved since they were weak huh?”
“Amazing, Onee-chan’s amazing!”
“I… is that so?”
Despite the scene where bird meat was splattered all over the place, Alicia was excited… which I really wasn’t sure if it was a good thing for her education.
This child, weren’t you supposed to be from a well off family?
“This bird, does it taste good?”
“I wonder? But, It’s not like I know how to process bird meat……”
“I know! I can do it.”
“Oh, that’s great…… but, where did you learn to do that?”
“…… I forgot.”
Her face suddenly became down-hearted. Expressiveness was a child’s privilege and it was quite a lovely thing.
“But, it’s dangerous to handle a blade, so just tell me how to do it and I’ll do it myself”
“Okay!”
It was tiring to only rely on fish and mochi for nutrition. I supposed it wasn’t a good idea to try to learn how to process a bird here in this place.
I opened the item inventory and tapped at the dead bodies to store them.
I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to put the bodies into the item inventory, but I was able to do it without a problem. This feature seemed to work a lot better than I thought it would.
Still, there were still traces of the blood that had leaked out.
“It would be dangerous if another beast came because of the smell of blood, so we have to quickly get away from here”
“Un, let’s hurry”
Alicia agreed with what I said and we quickly made our way to the exit.

Author’s corner:
I’ll post again tomorrow.
Translator Corner:
Yo, TC/Editor here. Remember when I said I’ll have this chapter done in a week? Hahahaha… haha… ha…
Yeah, that was a pipe dream.
Anyway, on the bright side, a friend of mine told me about a translation program that has helped immensely (2 month translation became 1 month instead). So, I’ll be sticking with that.
Oh, and I might actually have a couple of people edit this… maybe… if they’re up for it… so we’ll see how that works xD
So, aside from, hope y’all enjoyed your time and do stay safe out there.
P.S: Still alive and translating.
P.S.S: I am never gona complain again about other translations taking time…
