I was talking to Kenji at school in the morning.

“It was really surprising when those detectives from North Police Station came to my house.”

“Seriously? I guess they’re really having a hard time with the investigation then.”

Said Kenji, with an anxious look on his face.

(“It could be YOU tomorrow”, huh….)

Fortunately, I hadn’t heard of any cases nearby, but I was fearful since I couldn’t help but feel them closing their distance towards me.

“That reminds me, I heard they found another set of corpses in the northern ward’s forest.”

Murmured Kenji lazily inside the classroom which, as we entered August, was at the peak of its heat.

“They’re appearing in the Northern Ward again, even though I finally thought things had calmed down here.”

I said, also a bit lazily.

“Somehow, you don’t sound too interested. There are important things besides training too you know?”

Kenji replied with a voice, which also felt a bit relieving.

“Hmm, yeah. I know.”

As I replied while yawning,

“Don’t tell me Ritsu, were you training all day yesterday as well?”

Kenji questioned in a disappointed tone.

“Of course not, I just did some thinking.”

I replied truthfully but,

“It’s nice to be enthusiastic and all, but your body is your biggest capital you know?”

I was scolded regardless.

“Ha, my bad, sorry I made you worry.”

I apologized unintentionally. While we were doing this and that, the chime for the first period rang.

“It’s starting.”

“Yeah, I’ll work hard again today.”

I replied, even though I didn’t feel like working hard today.

“We will now begin the first lesson of the day.”

“””Yes sir.””””

＜Tohto Investigation Department＞

“What the hell is going on, just how many does this make!”

“Let’s calm down now, Igarashi-senpai. We won’t get anywhere by getting angry…”

“Yeah, I know that.”

Igarashi puts the documents awkwardly on top of the desk.

“That said, it’s also true that we’ve gotten nowhere. We can’t even tell whether these are murders of illness-related.

That boy, our only so-called lead, also turned out to be a dead-end.”

Tashiro creased his eyebrows, and with a grim face, slammed the desk using both his fists.

“If they’re going to keep increasing like this, I might just put my hands up.”

“You’re right…”

“What’s with all the noise out there?”

As Igarashi started hearing the ruckus and muttered so,

“Igarashi-san.”

A single policeman walked into the room.

“What’s happening?”

“Could you please take a look at this, “

“Hm? A video?”

“Yes.”

“What is it, is it new information?”

Tashiro also peaks in to watch the screen.

The video showed a suburban spot under the evening glow of the night. It showed the caster announcing the next day’s weather, who then suddenly bursts into flames.

Tashiro muttered while making a difficult face.

“What is this, CG?”

“It would be normally, but this was a live TV broadcast.”

“Yes, that is the problem.”

The policeman responded with a difficult face.

“Is it not possible to have CG on live broadcasts?”

“Yes.”

“Mm, this keeps making less and less sense. Did a detective from another station reach the scene?”

“Yes.”

“Then we have no choice but to wait until the other station puts up its report.”

This case gave Igarashi an unpleasant feeling in the form of waves, hitting him again and again.

Late at night, I was up searching for news regarding the incident which took place tonight on TV.

“I honestly don’t know what’s going on, but I certainly saw a large Ki wrapped around the caster.”

(So Ki was the cause of this incident. In that case, those policemen were probably correct in coming to see me especially since I did encounter Ki several times while running. It feels like I’m partially guilty for what’s happening.)

“I might have also turned into this.”

While imagining myself bursting into flames, cold sweat ran down my back.
