The Adventurer's Guild was indeed a diverse and noisy place.

People of various races, genders, and ages seemed to be spending their time as they pleased.

Some of them directed curious glances at me, a stranger with an unfamiliar appearance.

One of them approached me as I hesitated at the entrance.

"What is it, kid? This isn't a place for kids."

"Hehe... yeah..."

I responded with an ambiguous smile.

Right, to him, I am literally a kid.

"I just left my hometown. I heard I could find work here."

"Huh? You want to be an adventurer in that getup?"

A large man looked at me with a puzzled expression.

He had a considerable presence, but for someone who had been surrounded by multiple owl bears in silence, it wasn't that intimidating.

"This isn't a place to come for fun, you know?"

"Of course, I understand."

"...You've got some guts. Come on, this way."

The large man turned his back and started walking, waving his hand lightly.

"Beo's meddling has started again."

"He's still as kind as ever."

The men at the table, tilting their mugs, chuckled.

So, the large man walking in front of me is Beo.

His attitude towards me, a first-timer, was probably out of consideration for someone who looked like a child.

Despite his appearance, he seemed to be a good-natured person.

"Shari, this guy wants to register."

"Ah, Beo-san. You've brought another new recruit? Are you going to become a guild staff member?"

"Cut it out. I'm a lifelong active member."

Laughing lightly, the large man pushed me towards the counter.

Surprised, I faced the woman sitting at the counter.

"Hello, welcome to the traditional Salvan Adventurer's Guild. You want to register?"

"Ah, yes... but, I don't actually know what an adventurer does. Could you explain it to me?"

At my words, Beo and the receptionist exchanged surprised looks.

Well, this feels like a blunder.

"You came here without knowing?"

"Yes."

"You really don't know what an adventurer is?"

"Yes."

Nodding to Beo and Shari, they both looked a bit troubled.

"Where did you come from? Living without adventurers, are you a forest dweller or something?"

"Hehe..."

Can I get by with a fake laugh?

No, I'm not a suspicious middle-aged man right now.

I'm a young man, barely of age.

"Shari will explain. An adventurer is a general term for people who take on various requests sent to the guild. These range from town cleaning and moving assistance to material gathering outside the town and monster slaying. They take on these tasks based on their own judgment and receive rewards for completing them."

"Hmm, I see."

"In short, they're jacks-of-all-trades."

Beo summarized Shari's detailed explanation succinctly.

It's very clear and helpful.

"So, it's like a handyman, Master."

"Seems so."

I smiled wryly at Zosimos whispering in my ear and felt a bit relieved
