Chapter 35 – Wait for me

He wanted to walk towards her quietly as he usually does, but his pace quickened unconsciously with a smile in his eye.

“Lord Di.” On seeing her holding up her clasped hands to greet him, his attitude towards her remained the same and in his heart, he was thinking that it did not matter. After they are married, she will be close to him.

“Are you looking for me?” He looked down at her. His expression had a touch of warmth that was different from the past and even his tone sounded gentle.

Shangguan Yan looked around and was afraid it would be inconvenient to speak with other people around.

Di Jing smiled. “Don’t worry. When I saw you here, I gave orders for them to withdraw. If you’re not at ease, we can go into the study to talk.”

“It’s alright. We can talk here.”

The study is too private, so it is better to talk outside.

“Did you encounter any problem?”

She hesitated and then nodded. “I thought of a question, so I came to talk to you about it.”

He was afraid she would settle problems on her own without discussing them with him. Now that she came looking for him, it meant that she had started to look upon him as one of her own people which was good.

“Speak and don’t hesitate. If there is any problem, I will settle it.”

She hesitated for a while and finally decided that it was better to tell him.

“It’s like this. Although my Lord has shown the spirit of loyalty to me and is also willing to take this responsibility for me, marriage is an important matter, not something trivial. After deliberating over this, I still feel it’s not right. In fact, I still have a solution. My Lord also knows that Ling Wangfei and I have a good relationship and she had thought of a way to solve this. In case there is a need and as a last resort, she is willing to let the Wangye take me as a concubine……..”

“No!”

His sudden shout startled her. She noticed that the originally gentle and smiling handsome face instantly sank and the lights that shot out from his eyes were exceedingly piercing and his tone sounded threatening and gloomy.

“How can you just change something that has been discussed and agreed? Do you think that I had spoken casually without careful consideration?”

As he sternly questioned her, he was moving threateningly towards her. Pressured by his strong aura, she was forced to retreat until her back bumped against the wall. Only then did she realize that she had been forced into the corner of the wall by him. However, he did not have any intention to step back and even lowered his face until his nose almost touched hers while his eyes were glaring fiercely at her.

“You know that marriage is not a trivial matter as well, so why do you still want to be a concubine in Ling Wang Mansion? Is it better to be a concubine to Ling Wang than to be my wife?”

“That is not what I meant……..”

“Then what do you mean?…….”

For a moment, she was choked and was rendered speechless by his terrifying aura. She could see that he was very angry and in fact, she was only testing him just now. Being Ling Wang’s concubine was only in name and it was just an idea thought up by her Junior Sister. However, she did not expect his reaction would be so fierce.

Upon seeing him so angry, she could not help but feel guilty and looked blankly at him. “Don’t be angry. We can talk this over.”

“Aren’t I listening to you? I’m very serious.” He had an angry expression and did not seem willing to give in at all.

That’s right, serious……..now his expression is so serious that it’s scary. It is as though if she says one more word about being someone else’s concubine, he will deal with her ruthlessly.

Both of them were so close together that it was very hard for her to stay calm and talk to him. Her heart was beating like a drum and her cheeks turned red involuntarily. Just as long as he leans a little closer, not only will their noses touch but their lips will also touch.

When she thought of his lips, she suddenly felt her throat and tongue had become dry and her cheeks had heated up. She found that she was too embarrassed to even look at him directly and her heart was beating very fast unlike her normal self.

But why is he angry? When she said those words, it was all for his sake! She was afraid he would be put in a difficult situation and it was also difficult for her as well! Does he think she is willing to become a concubine? She is the one who is the most aggrieved!

Thinking up to here, she became annoyed without any reason.

“Why are you so fierce? It’s not as if you truly like me, so why sacrifice yourself to marry me?” Her tone sounded cross and she glared at him fiercely.

“Who said I don’t truly like you?”

Ah? She was dumbfounded. The anger that had just risen inside her was instantly snuffed out by his words.

Di Jing stared at her foolish expression and his pair of determined eyes gradually deepen and his voice had turned husky.

“Dummy……..of course, the reason for me to marry you is that I truly like you.”

Does he really like her?

To hear him confirm it was indeed too shocking. She was speechless for a while and could only stare at him foolishly.

When the feeling of surprise had faded, she realized that the flames in his eyes were filled with affection. Finally, she lowered her face in shyness and felt a little at a loss.

Di Jing was overjoyed. Since she feels shy it means that she is not totally indifferent to him. This gave him hope.

In fact, he did feel anxious just now. After waiting for so long, he finally found an opportunity to make her agree to marry him but then she suddenly said she wants to be Ling Wang’s concubine which made him truly anxious.

As he stared at her blushing face, he asked himself when has he ever seen this glamorous side of her? This is the first time that she is blushing because of him and it is also the first time that he knew he has a place in her heart.

She did not know how enticing she looks like this. It stirred up the suppressed desire in him and he almost could not hold down the urge to kiss her.

He clenched his hands into fists behind his back and forced down the urge. It is not the right time yet, for she is still not his. He must not act like a young boy and behave rudely towards the beauty at this critical moment.

He wants her to become his woman and wants those people who harbor ideas on her to get rid of their thoughts because they cannot change the fact. He does not want more people to come and snatch her from him, thus this matter must be dealt with as soon as possible to stake his claim.

He leaned forward and his lips came near to her ear as his whisper brushed over her ear like feathers.

“Don’t keep on having messy and unnecessary thoughts. Leave everything to me. You just have to wait to marry me……..promise me, alright?”

His tone was no longer overbearing like just now and sounded like a plea in his low voice. Although he did not touch her, his breath was blowing in her ear and every word reiterated his promise. She could not help but feel warm in the heart with his words.

Shangguan Yan nodded shyly and replied to him in a soft voice.

Her soft promise almost melted his heart and he took a deep breath, trying to maintain a gentleman’s demeanor. He did not move and she did not dare to move either. The surrounding was so quiet that they could hear each other’s breathing and at this moment, it seems as if they were the only two people in the world. A certain kind of affection surrounded both of them, affecting his emotions and also stirring up her feelings.

After a long time, he straightened up, looked down at her, and said in a husky voice. “Go back and wait for my good news, hmm?”

She nodded shyly again then raised her head and took a glance at him before she lowered her head again. When he backed away a little, she immediately walked around him and after taking a few steps forward, she stopped to turn around and said to him.

“Be careful.”

This caring reminder is more valuable than a thousand words and the warmth went straight into his heart.

“Alright.” He nodded. His gaze was like a torch and his lips curved slightly.

She was a little embarrassed and when she turned around to leave, there was a smile on her lips.
