"Both of us are orphans, we grew up together. He said he would marry me, he said so."
Under the pale light, the woman sitting on the bed, huddled into a ball, her face pale and her hair disheveled, but her beauty remained undiminished. Her vacant eyes repeated the same words over and over again.
The doctor sighed, "She has suffered a severe psychological trauma and is unwilling to wake up from her delusional world. It will be impossible to treat her in the short term."
"We need Dr. Luoshui to lead the upcoming experiment. Dr. Wang, no matter what it takes, please help her recover as soon as possible. The revival of humanity depends on her."
A general with the rank of a brigadier sighed and stepped up to Dr. Luoshui, "Dr. Luoshui, we need your help. Please recover as soon as possible. I believe this is not only our hope but also Li Mu's hope."
"General, we have received news from the capital. Thirty minutes ago, the capital... fell."
The shocking news stunned everyone.
The brigadier general exhaled a long breath, "I see. Is there any other news?"
"Australia has not had any communication for over two days. Additionally, Japan, Canada, Mexico... more than seventeen countries and regions have lost contact."
The general waved his hand weakly, no longer asking more questions. He turned to the doctor, "The situation has completely deteriorated. Please do your best to help Dr. Luoshui recover as soon as possible. She is an expert in genetics and inheritance. The revival of humanity may depend entirely on her."
...
In Australia, a foul-smelling wind blew from the sea to the inland. It had not rained for many days, and the bodies on the highway had thoroughly rotted.
A tall, gray-white zombie with a grotesque face slowly emerged from a pit. Its right hand was covered in white bone, sharp and flat like a knife, creating a sharp whistling sound as it moved. Its left hand tightly held a heart-shaped pendant, walking step by step in this hell on earth.
It stepped over a dried-up zombie, which was still moving slowly, its torn mouth opening and closing as if it still wanted to bite something.
The tall zombie stopped, turned around, and stared at the half-dead zombie with its gray-white eyes. Suddenly, it raised its foot without hesitation and crushed the half-dead zombie's head, then slowly turned and left.
As it continued to walk forward, the bright sun and clear sky made everything look twisted. The destroyed and twisted cars, the cracked roads, the incomplete zombies, and the dried blood all turned the world into a hell.
The tall zombie kept walking forward, its gray-white eyes aimless and directionless. Everything in front of it was blood-red, as if a layer of blood covered its eyes, impossible to wash away.
In this blood-red world, the tall zombie walked along the highway, passing by broken and crashed vehicles, dried blood, broken corpses, and piles of bones, as well as some incomplete zombies.
When the sun rose again, a city appeared before the tall zombie. The air was filled with the stench of corpses. Zombies occupied every corner of the city, their gray-white eyes filled with confusion and bloodlust, aimlessly wandering. They would only become frenzied when they smelled the scent of a living person.
The tall zombie continued to walk forward, no one knew where it was going, and it didn't know either. It just tightly held the heart-shaped pendant, as if it was holding the entire world.
"Buzz!"
A sharp sound suddenly rang out, and the zombies wandering on the street stopped. Their gray-white eyes turned aimlessly, and the tall zombie also stopped, a hint of confusion flashing in its gray-white eyes.
"Come on! You disgusting zombies, come on, come and eat me!"
A short, tense, and excited voice suddenly rang out. A large truck came speeding down the street, its horn blaring. The zombies on the street were knocked flying, but as long as their heads weren't crushed, they would immediately get up and chase the truck.
Soon, as the truck moved forward, the dense crowd of zombies following it was revealed, numbering in the thousands.
"Charlie, you lunatic. You're going to attract all the zombies in the city!" a blond man in the truck shouted.
Another man with brown hair sneered, "So what? The more zombies we attract, the more resources Lef and the others can search for."
"John, are you worried about these brainless zombies?" Charlie laughed maniacally, letting go of the steering wheel, his eyes red, and picked up a rifle, firing at a zombie grabbing the door.
"One shot to the head, cool!"
Charlie laughed maniacally.
"You idiot, damn it! Get back to the steering wheel." John, enraged, snatched the rifle from Charlie.
"Alright, I got it." Charlie vented his frustration, feeling a bit relieved, "Dog walking is over, let's go home."
As he spoke, Charlie turned the steering wheel, crushing several zombies. Blood splattered, and Charlie laughed maniacally, "See that, John? See that? Ten kills in a row. Ha ha."
"You lunatic." John cursed.
"Yeah, I'm a lunatic. In this damn apocalypse, who isn't a lunatic!" Charlie's eyes turned red, and John was speechless, falling silent.
Charlie also fell silent. In this damn apocalypse, the dead couldn't rest, and the living weren't any better.
The two fell into silence, not noticing that at the back of the truck, the tall zombie's right hand, like a bone spike, had already pierced through the truck, and its other hand carefully held the heart-shaped pendant in its mouth, gripping the truck tightly and slowly climbing up.
"We're almost there. Get ready."
Charlie exhaled a long breath, seeing the drawbridge ahead. As long as they drove past it, the drawbridge would rise, and the zombies would fall into the sea.
Boom!
A collision, a gray-white bone spike suddenly pierced through the roof. Charlie and John screamed.
"Damn it! One of them climbed up, shoot, shoot!" Charlie shouted, the bone spike passing by his ear, almost injuring him.
John roared in anger, grabbing the rifle and firing wildly at the roof, "Come on, you bastard! Eat this!"
Several shots rang out, the truck's bottom was pierced, and dark brown blood flowed down. The heavy sound of metal indicated that the zombie had been killed.
John and Charlie breathed a sigh of relief.
"Ha ha. Close, so close. I almost got hurt, damn it! Just a little bit!" Charlie was still shaken. If he had been injured by a zombie, he would have been infected, with no other way out.
John also exhaled a long breath, "Close. I told you not to be reckless. Damn it, you never listen!"
Charlie, having narrowly escaped death, didn't dare to contradict John. He forced a laugh, his pupils suddenly contracting, "John, be careful!"
Before he finished speaking, blood splattered on Charlie's face. A pale bone knife pierced through John's chest, and the gray-white hand grabbed the door, throwing John out of the truck. The zombies chasing behind immediately pounced, blood splattering, and John lost his voice.
Charlie was stunned, disbelieving, his eyes covered in John's blood, the world turning blood-red. The tall, gray-white zombie directly entered the driver's seat, its right hand bone knife swinging, and Charlie instinctively closed his eyes, feeling desolate, "Mother, father, I'm coming to join you."
Swish! The sound of the bone knife swinging, Charlie felt his body become light, being lifted up, his head hitting the roof, blood flowing, and he immediately lost consciousness.
The tall, gray-white zombie lifted Charlie, stepped out of the driver's seat, and landed heavily on the ground, its feet forcefully pressing into the ground, leaving a scorched black mark. Dark blood flowed, and the soles of its feet were likely bone.
But the tall zombie felt nothing, its gray-white eyes watching the truck crash through the drawbridge and sink into the sea. On the other side of the drawbridge, Charlie's companions were stunned, not believing the outcome.
Angry people couldn't help but shoot at the tall zombie. The zombie's gray-white eyes turned, and it started running, bullets hitting its back, dark blood flowing.
The zombies attracted by the truck quickly devoured John, and their gray-white, bloodthirsty eyes turned to Charlie in the tall zombie's hand, roaring and surrounding him.
The tall zombie's gray-white eyes were cold, its right hand bone knife swift and precise, piercing through several zombies, and it ran off, disappearing in the midst of the zombies' attack.
Charlie felt pain and the cold ground. At first, he thought he was becoming a zombie's meal, so he closed his eyes, not daring to face it. But the expected pain never came, and Charlie hesitantly opened his eyes.
He was in a not-so-clean room, a zombie with a pierced head lying at his feet, which startled him. Just as he was about to scream, a gray-white bone knife flashed past his face, cutting a few strands of hair and embedding itself in the wall like cutting tofu.
Charlie quickly covered his mouth, looking up in fear and seeing a gray-white, withered hand slowly extending toward him, a heart-shaped pendant in its palm, shining brightly.
