Chapter 3

In the dimly lit room, Charlie stared in terror at the zombie in front of him. This zombie was very different from the ones he had seen before, taller and more terrifying. Not only did it have a smooth, mirror-like right hand that glinted like a sharp bone knife, but its grayish-white muscles were twisted like dragons, making Charlie realize that this zombie was not like the mindless, shit-eating zombies on the streets.

What was even more terrifying was that this zombie was now standing right in front of him, its grayish-white eyes coldly staring at him. Charlie didn't know if the next second would bring merciless slaughter and devouring.

Swallowing hard, Charlie tried to be brave, but his uncontrollable spasms made it hard for him to stay calm.

The tall zombie's grayish-white eyes coldly watched Charlie, and its right hand easily carved a deep gash into the wall with the bone knife, stopping at Charlie's neck. Charlie was almost scared to death by the tall zombie's action.

The cold bone knife rested on Charlie's neck, and the tall zombie spread its left hand again. The pungent smell of blood hit Charlie, snapping him out of his daze. His eyes subconsciously looked at the heart-shaped pendant in the tall zombie's hand.

Charlie immediately recognized the heart-shaped pendant as a product launched by Hua Wei Company a year ago, which was extremely popular, perfectly combining jewelry, art, and electronics.

"Platinum case, metallic feel, equipped with the latest Snapdragon processor, 3D-IMIX automatic shooting effect, automatic light correction..."

Charlie stammered, having paid attention to this product when it was released, even though he couldn't afford it, he still remembered some of the advertising slogans. He spoke for a while, hesitantly.

The only response was the sound of the tall zombie's bone knife piercing the wall. The sudden sharpness cut Charlie's hair, and he couldn't hold back, wetting himself.

A hint of bloodshot appeared in the tall zombie's grayish-white eyes, and a bloodthirsty aura spread. The tall zombie slowly approached Charlie, its sharp fangs protruding, as if it would pounce and tear him to pieces at any moment.

At this moment, Charlie felt the threat of death. A flash of inspiration came to him, and he didn't know where he found the courage to reach out and lightly touch the heart-shaped pendant. A "beep" sounded, and the blue 3D projection instantly lit up in the dim room.

"Luoshui, will you marry me?"

"I do."

"Just because I took one more look at you in the crowd, I can never forget your face..."

The ethereal melody echoed in the dim room, and the blue 3D projection seemed to play a perfect MV right before their eyes.

The tall zombie's bloodthirsty aura instantly calmed down. It released Charlie and stared at the blue projection with its grayish-white eyes, motionless.

Seeing the tall zombie turn around and stare at the 3D projection in a daze, Charlie let out a sigh of relief, grateful to Hua Wei Company for not adding a fingerprint lock to the pendant.

After the initial shock, Charlie became curious. He was increasingly intrigued by this tall zombie, which was unlike the mindless, zombie-like creatures that went berserk at the sight of a living person.

This tall zombie was clearly unique, at least he had never seen a zombie stare at a 3D projection in a daze, as it couldn't eat it.

However, curiosity was just a small part. Charlie was more concerned about how to escape, such as sneaking away while the zombie was absorbed in the 3D projection.

Charlie cautiously moved a few steps, and a grayish-white bone knife was stuck in the wall, pinning his scalp. Charlie was terrified, but the tall zombie didn't turn around, just staring at the 3D projection in a daze.

Charlie didn't dare to move, obediently watching the 3D projection with the tall zombie, feeling frustrated by this encounter.

Was there anything more ridiculous? Being caught by a zombie and becoming food was one thing, but having to watch movies with the zombie before that was truly maddening.

After the blue 3D projection played a dozen times, it suddenly stopped, the light dimming. Charlie saw the tall zombie turn its head sharply, its grayish-white eyes bloodshot, and a bloodthirsty, violent aura rose, shocking Charlie. He blurted out, "It's out of power! It's out of power!"

The tall zombie became agitated, its right bone knife slicing through the air with a terrifying whistling sound, leaving deep gashes everywhere in the room. The bone knife cut a metal bed in half as Charlie watched, his scalp tingling.

Just as Charlie worried that the tall zombie might kill him, the zombie grabbed the heart-shaped pendant and jumped off the balcony.

Bang!

A loud thud echoed, and Charlie scrambled to the balcony. Below, the tall zombie had entered a berserk mode, rampaging through the streets, its bone knife cutting through power poles, vehicles, and fire hydrants. More importantly, it was slicing the zombies on the street into pieces like cutting melons.

Seeming to sense Charlie's gaze, the tall zombie suddenly looked up, its grayish-white eyes bloodshot and filled with madness, yet there was a hint of calmness that other zombies lacked.

The cold and mad gaze made Charlie jump back, "Damn! This is the 25th floor! The 25th floor! He just jumped down! Shit! Shit!"

Charlie felt like he was going crazy. He suspected he wasn't dealing with a zombie but a demon, with incomprehensible strength and cold madness.

Charlie felt he should escape immediately, but his mind was filled with the scene of the tall zombie jumping from the 15th floor and wreaking havoc on the street, slaughtering zombies like a demon.

His legs were weak, and he didn't dare to run, fearing a terrible death. Besides, who knew what would greet him when he opened the door, perhaps a group of zombies.

Various sounds came from the street below. Charlie covered his ears, not daring to listen, as those sounds would automatically bring up the image of the tall zombie coldly and madly slicing through one zombie after another, blood and flesh flying everywhere.

Exhausted, Charlie waited until dawn. The sounds below finally quieted down. He cautiously poked his head out to check, and saw the tall zombie climbing back up the building with just its right bone knife.

The grayish-white bone knife, though unremarkable, easily pierced through concrete and steel. The tall zombie climbed up to the 25th floor like a spider, a scene that left a profound impact on Charlie.

In the morning light, the tall zombie, one hand gripping the building, the other effortlessly piercing through the structure, muscles bulging, leaped several meters at a time. The 25th floor was just a few leaps for the tall zombie.

This scene was a perfect combination of strength and speed, and even the grayish-white skin seemed to glow with a sacred light under the morning sun.

The strong smell of blood and decay filled the air as the tall zombie stood on the balcony. Charlie's body stiffened, not daring to move, as the tall zombie's grayish-white eyes coldly stared at him, slowly spreading its hand.

Charlie suddenly understood why the tall zombie had kept him alive.

"This pendant is solar-powered. You just need to put it in the sun to charge..." Charlie gestured, unsure if the tall zombie understood, "If you keep holding it, it won't charge well."

After a while, seeing the tall zombie's stiff, motionless form, Charlie felt ridiculous, trying to communicate with a zombie. Shaking off this absurd thought, Charlie tentatively reached out to take the pendant.

But the response was the grayish-white bone knife, and Charlie didn't dare to move, quickly saying, "I want to help you... You want to watch the projection... You need to charge it, put it in the sun..."

Charlie gestured, but the tall zombie just coldly watched him, then slowly spread its hand, extending it toward the morning light, motionless, staring at the pendant glowing in the morning sun.

Charlie fell silent, looking at the tall zombie in surprise, now certain that this zombie was different.

Charlie dozed off and woke up to find it was already dark. The tall zombie was still in the same position. Charlie shivered, remembering his situation.

Seeming to sense Charlie's gaze, the tall zombie finally reacted, slowly retracting its hand and clumsily touching the pendant. The blue light of the projection appeared again.

The tall zombie fell silent again, staring at the projection in a daze.

If Charlie had been confused about the tall zombie's thoughts yesterday, today, seeing the zombie's intense focus on the projection, he felt a pang of bitterness.

"She must be very important to you, important enough that even as a zombie, even without a soul, you can't forget her name."

Charlie spoke softly, suddenly feeling a surge of courage, inexplicable but solid.

If there was such a thing as an obsession, it was this: even as a zombie, a bloodthirsty demon, one could remain steadfast. What was there to fear in death or suffering?

The tall zombie ignored Charlie, just focusing on the blue projection, its right bone knife unconsciously moving on the balcony, so quiet and so determined.
