Six months after the outbreak of the Dead Virus. Chengping Laboratory.
"Record of the thirty-sixth specimen. Muscle fiber strength is thirty times that of a normal human, bone strength is sixty times that of a normal human, no pain nerve response, preliminary estimate, the thirty-sixth specimen has a maximum strength of three tons, and can run a hundred meters in about five seconds..."
"Record of the seventy-second specimen. Normal muscle fiber strength, normal bone strength, no pain nerve response, abnormal neural activity, thirty times that of a normal human, with clear signs of special abilities..."
"That's all. The latest data from the laboratory."
A middle-aged man in a hazmat suit slowly closed his notebook, frowned, and looked at the group in front of him with some displeasure, "I need more specimens and data. Additionally, data from the northeast shows that they have discovered other types of zombies, initially judged to be mind-controlled, capable of controlling other zombies."
"If you want more experimental data, you shouldn't keep interrupting my experiments, but rather provide me with more specimens and time."
"Dr. Yu, please don't be angry. Let me introduce you, this is Dr. Luoshui, an expert in this field. I hope you can work together well in the future."
The middle-aged military officer with a major general's rank pointed to the woman beside him, who had become much slimmer but even more beautiful, and spoke.
"Oh." Dr. Yu's displeasure lessened, and he looked at the woman, smiling, "Dr. Luoshui, I've read your academic report on the gene reduction theory, it was very enlightening. I feel honored to have you join us."
Dr. Luoshui nodded slightly, extended her hand, her voice somewhat dry, "Can I see the experimental data?"
"Of course. My specialty is medicine, so I can only provide some superficial insights from a macro perspective. For genetic aspects, I rely on you to study and judge."
Dr. Luoshui nodded, said nothing, and quietly read the detailed notes. After a long time, she slowly said, "It can be confirmed. The Dead Virus has disrupted our DNA chains, causing genetic chaos and conflict. For specifics, I need more detailed data."
"However..." Dr. Luoshui looked at the major general, "The zombies are evolving. Faster than you can imagine."
Everyone was stunned, not understanding how Dr. Luoshui could be so certain just from looking at the experimental data.
"Chain reaction." Dr. Yu blurted out, seeing everyone look at him, his face turned extremely grim, "This is the theory Dr. Luoshui proposed initially. If our gene chains are broken, the rate of gene mutation will accelerate like a nuclear reaction, not only failing to reverse or stop, but becoming faster and faster, ultimately losing control."
"Dr. Luoshui is an expert in this area, let her explain."
Dr. Yu frowned, clearly very agitated.
Dr. Luoshui nodded, her tone very calm, having experienced Li Mu's death, nothing in this world seemed to catch her attention, "From the current data, the Dead Virus is not a lethal virus source. It only disrupts the balance of our gene chains and has the ability to correct gene segments. In a sense, it is not a virus but a light of evolution, a light of divinity."
"However, a chain reaction in genes has occurred, causing most people to collapse, unable to withstand such gene mutations, turning them into zombies. From the limited animal experiment data, animals are much stronger in this aspect, better able to adapt to such rapid evolution."
"Evolution?"
Everyone was stunned, looking at Dr. Luoshui.
"Yes. Whether we like it or not, all infected, whether animals or humans, have gained some form of biological evolution, a leap in genes."
Dr. Luoshui's words instantly made everyone frown.
"Dr. Yu, have you taken blood samples from survivors to measure the virus concentration?" Dr. Luoshui suddenly asked.
The others didn't understand, but Dr. Yu's face changed dramatically, "Do you suspect that even survivors are actually infected with the Dead Virus?"
Dr. Luoshui nodded, "That's my hypothesis. And it's likely true. I'll need to see the experimental data to confirm. General, if there's nothing else, you can leave. I need to work."
The major general nodded, not caring about Dr. Luoshui's attitude, "Alright, let me know if you need anything. I hope you can reach a conclusion soon. The number of strengthened zombies seems to be increasing."
Melbourne, Australia.
This second-largest city in Australia, one of the most livable cities for years, is now a dead silence. Even on a clear, sunny day, there is no sound in the entire city. The occasional sound of a kicked can rolling down the street makes the silence even more chilling.
Li Mu walked alone on the streets of Melbourne. Compared to three months ago, Li Mu is now clearly much stronger. His originally grayish-white muscles have turned dark green, and his right hand bone knife is covered in layers of dark blood, making it impossible to see its original color. The shoulder blades protruding from his back are sharp like bone spines, adhering to his back. His entire body is wrapped in a dark green, tough skin, making him look inhuman but full of power. His sharp, cold teeth protrude from his lips, resembling the fangs of a vampire in a movie.
With a few leaps, Li Mu, like a spider, used his sharp bone knife to quickly climb a skyscraper. Standing on the 70-meter-high rooftop, Li Mu slowly spread his left hand, and the heart-shaped pendant glowed in the sunlight.
Maintaining this posture, Li Mu stood alone on the 70-meter-high rooftop, his grayish-white eyes focused on the pendant in his hand. The quiet, desolate city at his feet could not attract his attention. He just quietly looked at the pendant in his palm.
Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!
A few sounds like the wind passing through windows rang out. Li Mu's grayish-white eyes instantly took on a bloodthirsty glow, and he coldly looked down. He could see several zombies, with their limbs sprawled on the ground, twisted and deformed like lizards, moving as fast as lightning between the skyscrapers, gradually surrounding him.
These zombies were extremely fast, completely abandoning all human traits. Their hands had mutated into sharp claws, which could easily cut into concrete with a single swipe. They had a thick, crocodile-like tail, but it was also sharp and pointed like a scorpion's tail, allowing them to climb skyscrapers like geckos. Their heads split open, and their faces turned into mouthparts, filled with sharp teeth. Their tongues, hollow like a mosquito's proboscis, could easily suck the blood of their prey.
These zombies were indeed terrifying, resembling the Lickers from a movie from years ago. Five Licker-like zombies were surrounding Li Mu.
Originally, there were nine of them. Since their encounter ten days ago, these zombies had been relentlessly pursuing Li Mu. Even though he had killed four of them, the remaining zombies continued to chase him fearlessly.
Li Mu's grayish-white eyes coldly watched these zombies. They were too ugly and disgusting. Even under the control of the virus, Li Mu instinctively rejected them, unwilling to eat them.
With a cold gaze, Li Mu held the pendant in his hand, and with a single step, he leaped from the 70-meter-high rooftop, landing directly on a Licker near him. Without waiting for the Licker to react, Li Mu's right hand bone knife pierced through its head. He then stepped on a glass curtain wall, and his falling body suddenly bounced up. In mid-air, he swung his right hand bone knife, slicing a Licker that was pouncing at him in half.
As he rapidly fell, Li Mu forcefully inserted his right hand bone knife into the building's wall, creating a three-meter-long knife mark. He then stepped on another Licker, and with a burst of strength, broke through the glass curtain wall, rolling into the interior.
Li Mu's right hand bone knife sliced off the bone spines on the Licker's tail, stepped forward, and with a swift movement, decapitated the Licker.
All of this happened so quickly. From the moment he fell from 70 meters, Li Mu maximized his strength and agility, executing a series of rapid and precise movements, killing three Lickers in the blink of an eye.
The remaining two Lickers immediately became wary, leaping between the skyscrapers like geckos and quickly disappearing. Li Mu didn't chase them, his grayish-white eyes cold, and he leaped again, using his right hand bone knife to nail himself to the building, and in a few leaps, he was back on the rooftop. He slowly extended his hand, looking at the pendant in his palm, which sparkled in the sunlight.
He stood so calmly on the rooftop, showing no signs of the bloodthirsty brutality from moments ago. Even though his right hand bone knife was still dripping blood, Li Mu stood calmly on the rooftop, with nothing in this city except the pendant in his palm.
The two remaining Lickers, fleeing like stray dogs, quickly entered a large supermarket. Inside the supermarket, there were many zombies, but they were orderly.
In the deepest part of the zombie-infested area, a massive zombie, about five meters tall, sat on the ground. On its shoulder, a small, emaciated zombie, only about 1.5 meters tall, was voraciously eating flesh. When the two Lickers ran in, the small zombie let out a sharp cry, and all the zombies immediately became agitated.
