‘Knock, knock.’ Xia Weilan returned to her office desk and signaled Xia Roulin to get out of her office. Xia Roulin opened the door to find a secretary standing in front of the door.

The secretary took a glance at Xia Roulin and exchanged glances with her before entering, “Manager, here’s the document that you’ve requested in the morning. The meeting will start in another five minutes.”

“Put it there,” said Xia Weilan.

“Manager Xia, aren’t you heading for the meeting now? Otherwise, you’ll be late.” The secretary reminded her respectfully.

“You can go ahead. I’ll be there shortly.”

After the secretary went out, Xia Weilan picked up the document and began reading it.

She took her time to go through it in detail.

By the time Xia Weilan arrived at the meeting room, Old Master Xia and the other departmental managers were already there, waiting for her.

“You really came ‘on-time’.” Xia Roulin mocked.

Xia Weilan pretended that she didn’t hear her and walked straight to her seat with a file in her hand.

This meeting was to discuss the proposal of the collaboration with Z jewelry company. Xia Weilan is the main focal point for this meeting.

Xia Roulin’s eyes flashed with delight when she saw the file in Xia Weilan’s hands. She quickly concealed her feelings.

“Since everyone is here, let’s start the meeting.” Old Master Xia sat there solemnly. Everyone in the meeting room immediately kept quiet and straightened their backs.

The secretary walked over and took the file in Xia Weilan’s hand. Just when he was about to distribute the printed copies of the documents in the file, he noticed that the file in his hand was unusually light. He was stunned when he opened the file for there was nothing inside the file.

“Huh…” The secretary lifted his head and stared at Xia Weilan in confusion.

“Xia Weilan, don’t tell me that you came to such an important meeting unprepared?” Xia Roulin immediately sneered. She put on a mocking expression as she stared at Xia Weilan as if she’s staring at a clown.

Old Master Xia couldn’t help but frown.

“Manager Xia, where’s the document?” The secretary quickly asked Xia Weilan. Did Xia Weilan find something fishy about the documents that he’d prepared, so she didn’t bring it along?

Everyone in the meeting room had their eyes on Xia Weilan, waiting for her to offer an explanation. But Xia Weilan said, “There was no document.”

“Impossible. I’ve passed them to you just now.” The secretary stared at Xia Weilan in disbelief. He was looking at Xia Weilan as if he was interrogating her. He was no longer putting up his polite act.

Xia Roulin had instructed him to randomly fill in the budget allowance field and later shift the blame to Xia Weilan, insisting that he had never touched the document at all and it was Xia Weilan who purposely framed him.

Everything was supposed to be flawless. He never expected that the document would go missing.

“I see. In that case, can you please kindly help me to reprint the document and bring them over?” Xia Weilan let out a smile while squinting her eyes. She started to look a little like Mo Beichen’s style.

“Get going, we’re waiting.”

“What are you waiting for!” Xia Weilan instructed sternly. Her voice was so cold and it made that secretary shivered. He subconsciously looked at Xia Roulin.

Xia Weilan was also staring at Xia Roulin. She let out a sneer, “I asked you to fetch a document. Why are you looking at the deputy manager? Could it be that you’re asking for her approval?”

“I’ll get going.” The secretary retreated.

The financial report that he had prepared was not done properly as the figures that he filled in were done randomly. At this instant, he wasn’t able to produce a properly written report at all.

After a while, someone got impatient and urged him to hurry, twice.

The secretary had no choice but walked back into the meeting room with the file and started distributing the reports.

“What is this? Is this a joke?” The moment the finance manager read the content of the report, he knew that there’s something off with the figures shown in the report.

“Xia Weilan. Did you instruct him to do this? How dare you pull such a joke in such an important meeting?!” Xia Roulin took a primitive strike and threw the document on the table.

“That’s right, Manager Xia instructed me to do this.” The secretary suppressed his emotions and pointed his finger at Xia Weilan.

“Weilan, what’s going on?” asked Old Master Xia, who had seen a lot of the business world, was calm and collected.

“Grandpa,” Xia Weilan stood up, “Everyone clearly saw that the report was prepared by the secretary. And it was also him who brought them in personally. Isn’t it obvious who should be responsible for the mistake? Do you really think that I would go as far as to screw up my own project?”

“Yeah, it’s obvious that this secretary is behind all this.”

“President, what would you like to do with this person?” Someone looked at Old Master Xia.

“Fire him!” Old Master Xia instructed coldly.

The secretary never expected that this would happen. Just when he was about to explain himself, two security guards had already come in to escort him out.

“Grandpa, Weilan is in charge of this. Now that we are unable to carry on with the meeting, don’t you think that she should be held responsible too?” Xia Roulin seized the opportunity.

Before Old Master Xia opened his mouth, Xia Weilan said, “Who said that we can’t carry on with the meeting?”

Everyone was stunned because they didn’t expect that Xia Weilan dared to make such a statement in this sort of situation.

Old Master Xia glanced at Xia Weilan and saw her standing there with confidence, looking around at everybody. Old Master Xia immediately felt at ease because he knew that he should put more trust in Xia Weilan.

Xia Weilan took out a USB drive from her pocket and walked beside the computer beside the projector screen and projected a file on the screen.

Xia Roulin watched Xia Weilan’s swift actions and her mind went blank. She had a bad feeling.

At this instant, everyone was paying attention to the information on the screen, especially the finance department. The upset atmosphere caused by the commotion earlier on dissipated because what was shown on the screen was a carefully calculated budget allocation without a single error.

However, the finance department still couldn’t help but commented, “Manager Xia, isn’t the budget too high?”

As soon as the statement was made, someone from the marketing department quickly said before Xia Weilan had a chance to reply, “Finance manager, I understand where you are coming from. But in order to cut through the market, publicity is needed. The cost to hire a reputed celebrity to do the publicity will naturally be high.”

The finance manager obviously disagreed. He stood up immediately and said, “Do you think the company has that much cash flow to come up with so much budget for you to engage a superstar? Just randomly pick an amateur, that will do.”
