Du Ruo and Tang Haoran walked over together. Though they were dressed casually, their presence was formidable, and Du Ruo's face was particularly grim and terrifying.
Zhang Weidong, recognizing the newcomers, was instantly startled. "Oh my God, isn't that my boss's boss, Director Du?" His legs trembled, and his speech became stammered, "Du... Du... Director Du..."
Du Ruo didn't even glance at him, walking straight toward Zeng Yi. As he approached, he extended both hands and said apologetically, "Younger Brother Zeng, I'm late, and I've caused you to suffer!"
"I've caused trouble for the two of you again!" Zeng Yi also looked apologetic.
Du Ruo's eyes widened, and his face darkened. "Whoever dares to cause trouble for my brother is challenging me, Du Ruo!" He then turned to look at Zhang Weidong, "Captain Zhang, you're pointing a gun at me. Do you want to handcuff me too?"
Zhang Weidong wished he could chop off his own hands. Due to the sudden situation, he had forgotten to put away his gun, and his subordinates were still surrounding the area, guns drawn.
"N... No, I d... don't dare..." Zhang Weidong hurriedly explained, then took a few steps forward and kicked one of his subordinates, shouting angrily, "You blind dogs, put away your guns immediately, all of you!"
After putting away their guns, Zhang Weidong mustered the courage to walk over, "Director Du, I..."
Du Ruo, with his hands behind his back, looked up, completely ignoring Zhang Weidong. "Captain Zhang, I'd like to know what case you're handling now. Please report!"
Zhang Weidong was dumbfounded. With so many people around, Du Ruo had already called Zeng Yi his brother and made a bold statement. Even if he had the courage, he wouldn't dare say he was here to arrest Zeng Yi. That would truly be challenging Director Du. Sweat rolled down his forehead. "Director Du, there might... might be a misunderstanding... We received a report from the public about a fight, so we came over."
"Is that so!" Du Ruo snorted, "Then tell me, who reported it? It couldn't be Mr. Chi, could it?"
Zhang Weidong felt as if he had fallen into a cold cellar, every pore on his body shivering with cold. He wanted to slap himself. Why did he have to come here to help Chi Kangkai when he could have stayed home and watched TV with his wife? Now he had kicked a steel plate. He thought, if the other party didn't have a strong backing, how could they dare to stand there after a fight, waiting for the police to arrest them?
Zhang Weidong's intestines were filled with regret, his teeth chattering. "It... it's not..."
"Is it or isn't it!"
Du Ruo's eyebrows furrowed in anger, scaring Zhang Weidong so much that his legs almost gave out, nearly causing him to fall.
"Which one of you is Mr. Chi? Step forward and show yourself, so I, Du Ruo, can have a good look!" Du Ruo stood there with his hands on his hips, looking proud.
Chi Kangkai had already realized something was wrong when Du Ruo appeared. He tried to slink away, but Du Ruo's shout immediately had him dragged out by the crowd. "It's him, he's right here, that bastard!"
"Execute Mr. Chi!"
Someone in the crowd shouted, almost causing the already panicked Chi Kangkai to faint.
"The people's eyes are sharp. Listen to the voice of the people!" Du Ruo pointed at the crowd, looking at Zhang Weidong with a cold smile. "Captain Zhang, you're doing a great job. You're bringing honor to our police force!"
Zhang Weidong immediately started shaking, his back drenched in cold sweat. He knew that in the system, the worst thing was not when a leader criticized you directly but when they used veiled criticism. Du Ruo's words indicated he was extremely angry.
"Captain Zhang, I'll stand here and learn from you today. I want to see how you handle this case!" Du Ruo stood there confidently, pushing the problem back to Zhang Weidong, clearly wanting to see him in a difficult situation.
Zhang Weidong, seeing this as his last chance, quickly made a decision. He strode over, grabbed Chi Kangkai like an eagle catching a chick, and slapped him. "You damn thing, you want to run! Go and apologize to Director Du!"
The slap landed right on the spot where Zeng Yi had hit Chi Kangkai, causing him intense pain. Without thinking, Chi Kangkai pointed at Zhang Weidong and shouted, "Mr. Zhang, you dare to hit me? Do you think I won't strip you of your police uniform?"
Zhang Weidong was so angry that his nose almost twisted. He had slapped Chi Kangkai to protect himself and to save the boy. If Chi Kangkai apologized to Director Du, there might still be a chance to save the situation. But Chi Kangkai was beyond help. Zhang Weidong, furious, kicked him. "Damn it, I'll strip off this police uniform today to teach you, you scum of society!"
"Good! Really good!" Du Ruo watched the farce with appreciation. "I'll have to ask Ma Jinyou who's in charge of the Tianfu Public Security Bureau. A nobody like you dares to threaten to strip a police captain of his uniform!"
Since Director Du had said this, it was clear that Deputy Director Chi's promotion was in jeopardy. Zhang Weidong's body stiffened, and without hesitation, he kicked Chi Kangkai again. "Handcuff this troublemaker! Handcuff him to death!"
The crowd, seeing the police who had come to rescue the scene suddenly turn on the troublemakers, cheered. What could be more entertaining than watching dogs bite each other?
A few troublemakers in the crowd shouted from the back, "Beat him to death! Beat him to death! Beat that bastard Mr. Chi to death!"
Seeing that the police didn't stop them, some people grew bolder and threw plastic water bottles at the troublemakers. "Beat these bastards to death. If no one had stopped me, I would have done it myself!"
One person's action encouraged others, and many in the crowd picked up whatever they could find and threw it at the troublemakers, causing chaos.
Just then, sirens blared again at the park entrance. In moments, two or three dozen special police officers in black uniforms, armed with various weapons, rushed in, and the crowd quickly dispersed.
The special police captain ran up to Du Ruo and saluted. "Special Police Brigade, Captain Qin Yong, reporting for duty. Please give your instructions!"
Du Ruo waved his hand. "Arrest these troublemakers and these corrupt police officers. If they resist, shoot them on the spot!"
"Yes, sir!"
Qin Yong stood straight, turned, and waved his hand. The special police officers, like wolves, immediately moved forward, pinning Captain Zhang and his subordinates to the ground and handcuffing them all.
Zhang Weidong didn't dare resist, obediently squatting on the ground and surrendering his gun.
"Special Police, well done! Director Du, well done!"
The crowd, seeing that the special police were not there to rescue Mr. Chi, gathered again and cheered loudly.
