Chapter 15
At eight o’clock in the evening, Song Wen took a taxi back home. The lights in the neighborhood were on, and the stars were shining brilliantly everywhere. He walked up the path to the stairs, and when he looked up, he found that his house lights were on.
Song Wen was not too surprised. He went upstairs, opened the door and saw his mother in the living room with a mop, diligently mopping the floor.
Song Wen, while changing his shoes, said: “Mom, why are you here all of a sudden? You didn’t even call me in advance?”
Old Mrs. Song raised her eyes: “Why? Do I still have to apply for a visit before coming to my son’s house first?” In order to launch a surprise attack, the old lady also specifically kept a copy of the key to Song Wen’s residence.
You can never treat your mother the way you treat your subordinates.
The usually unsmiling Song Wen, showed a polite and standard smile at this time: “Of course not, I was hoping to pick you up.” He said and took the mop in a friendly manner, “I’ll do it.”
Old Mrs. Song grunted and sat down on the sofa, still a little unhappy.
Her real name was Li Luanfang, she was 58 years old this year. Ever since she retired from the hospital at 55, she has been dreaming of holding her grandson. But after waiting three years since her retirement, and having graduated from the University of the Elderly several years ago, Song Wen still had not settled down. She could only jump around anxiously.
Song Wen knew why his mother came for a surprise raid. It was the disease learnt from his father, who was a criminal investigator. You must always see the crime scene with your own eyes and not miss a single clue. He knew what the old lady wanted to find, for instance, long hair on the bed, cosmetics in the mirror cabinet, and so on. But by looking at the old lady’s micro-expressions, the results this time were equally disappointing.
After mopping up the floor, Song Wen organized the drawings, pencils and albums on the table: “Mom, have you eaten dinner yet? Should I order something for you online?”
Old Mrs. Song looked like she had no appetite: “I ate on the way here.” Then she raised her eyes and asked Song Wen, “Why didn’t you eat at home tonight?”
Song Wen answered honestly: “I went out to have dinner with my colleague.”
“A man or a woman?” Mrs. Song’s eyes lit up and came closer to smell him, “And did you also drink?”
“A little red wine.” Song Wen stepped back and dodged, “Of course it’s a male……”
“I thought you were enlightened to find female colleagues for dinner. Also, what kind of red wine would you drink with a male colleague?” Old Mrs. Song complained, and Song Wen saw the little spark of gossip in her eyes go out.
“Mom, I just closed a case in which the woman dismembered her husband. This shows that marriage is too dangerous.” Song Wen looked at Old Mrs. Song, and tried to dissuade her from the urge to find a daughter-in-law.
Old Mrs. Song looked at him, “Then, you don’t go out because there is a risk of being hit by a car and getting killed? People die in hospitals every day, so you won’t go to the hospital?”
Song Wen was choked for words, and could only continue to bury his head in packing things.
Old Mrs. Song, who couldn’t help sitting idle on the sofa, got up again and said to Song Wen: “Give me your pants, how did they become so dirty?”
Song Wen protested: “Where are they dirty? I just took a shower this afternoon and changed into them.”
Old Mrs. Song pointed at his pant leg and said, “Clean, my ass. There’s still dog hair, and what’s that dark stain?”
Song Wen: “……”
"
"
Suddenly, he wanted to eat dog meat hot pot even more.
In the end, Old Mrs. Song couldn’t be defeated. Song Wen obediently took off his pants and changed into a pair of wear at home, pajama pants.
The Captain of the criminal investigation team helplessly carried the pants, turned back to ask Old Mrs. Song, who was stuffing clothes into the washing machine: “Mom, why did you give me such a nickname?”
“Xiao*(Little) Lang*(Wolf)?” Old Mrs. Song looked up and said, “At that time, your father and I gave you the name ‘Wen’, but we were afraid that your nature would be too quiet. So we gave you a wild nickname and thought of making it comprehensive, but who would have thought that you would be wild from the start?”
“At that time, your father and I joked that you were probably a real wolf.”
Song Wen remembered that when he was little and his mother got angry, she would hold up a broomstick and call him Song Xiao Lang instead of by his name, chasing him all over the yard.
(T/N: 小 : xiǎo meaning small fellow, little fellow. Usually used to address younger generations, or as a cute form of address. 狼: láng meaning wolf )
Seeing that he didn’t say anything, Old Mrs. Song raised her eyebrows and asked him, “What, you don’t like it?”
Song Wen smiled and said, “Where is it not good? It’s very classy and the person who named it also has a unique taste.”

The university campus of South City was located to the East of the entire city, where the terrain was vast and sparsely populated. Several universities stood shoulder to shoulder here. The constant influx of young people has injected fresh blood into the area, slowly turning it into a bustling city.
At midnight in the South City University, the whole campus seemed to be asleep, there was no longer the lively excitement of the daytime.
The campus was extremely quiet, and occasionally the sounds of one or two wild cats rustling in the grass could be heard, which disappeared as quickly as it came. When the wind touched the clouds, they rolled up, as if there was some hideous living thing hidden within them.
This year’s summer seems to have arrived a bit earlier than in previous years. On a sunny day in May, you could wear a singlet without feeling cold. But now, the temperature has suddenly dropped a lot, causing one to shiver from the chill. The moonlight was bright as it shone down, illuminating the campus in an eerie light before finally projecting in the corridor of the girls’ dormitory, leaving a muddy shadow.
In the quiet, the door of dormitory 108 was suddenly pulled open with a creak, and a thin figure struggling to run out of it. She stumbled forward and a strange smell wafted out from the originally closed dormitory. The door behind her swayed for a moment, before closing again.
The figure ran a few steps down the hallway and fell to the ground. She got on her knees in front of the door to dormitory 107 and stretched out her helpless hand, scratching the door of that dormitory with her nails. It was as if a pair of invisible hands were tightly grabbing her throat, strangling her, and blood mixed with white foam came out of her mouth uncontrollably: “Help…… help…… help me… …” she tried to shout hoarsely, but only came out with a few whimpers.
In dormitory 107, Bai Xiaoxiao was awakened by that sound. She raised her head to look, Deng Jia in the next bed also turned over and opened her eyes.
There were originally four people in their dormitory, but one had successfully graduated and moved to the graduate school dormitory, another recently took a leave of absence to go back home; so only the two of them were living in the room.
“What’s that sound? Did you hear it?” Bai Xiaoaiao asked Deng Jia.
“It’s not a cat, is it?” Deng Jia did not hear clearly. The campus was originally part of the wilderness. Except for many insects and cats, there was really not much in it. Some cats who became spirited at night will keep scratching the door.
“Why do I hear someone calling for help? I’m not dreaming, am I…?” Bai Xiaoxiao was a little timid.
The two people in the dormitory fell silent. They listened carefully. There was no sound of help outside, but there was still a sound of something scratching the door. The sound was mixed with heavy breathing, like gasping for air.
“It’s not a ghost, right…?” Bai Xiaoxiao was about to cry. There were various ghost stories circulating all over the campus. In ancient times, it was said that this place was used for exiled criminals. Many prisoners were buried on the spot when they arrived here. Numerous bones were dug out when the land was excavated for building the University. Even now, there was still a big walnut forest planted in one corner of the campus. Legend says it can suppress those ghosts and evil spirits.
“What nonsense! I’ll go check it out.” Deng Jia, the head of the residence and an atheist, rolled down from the top bunk, “Xiaoxiao, help me with some light.” In order to prevent students from staying up late at night, at twelve o’clock in the evening, the lights at South City University will be forced to switch off; and even if you want to turn on the lights, they couldn’t turn them on.
Xiao Xiao turned her mobile phone into a flashlight and cast a beam of white light in the direction of the door.
Deng Jia, who pretended to be courageous, and slightly opened the door. With the moonlight and the light behind her, she could see a figure lying in the dark, by the door of their dormitory. As soon as she opened the door, something that was originally resting on the door dropped down and hit her foot. It was a bleeding pale hand!
Deng Jia could not help but let out a shriek, and the whole dormitory building was awakened by the sound of this shriek. The miserable scene outside the door, became a nightmare that she could not let go of for the rest of her life.

Translating team shenanigans
Tbvh, I generally don’t really read seme protagonist novels but as soon as i picked this up, I fell in love with Song Wen. His character is really human which is a stark contrast to the cold, domineering, touch-phobic, ill-tempered , possessive yandere male leads that I usually find in c-novels.
He is silly, warm, cool and super smart. My ideal husband (*≧∀≦*)
