Su Peng glanced at the terms and conditions, and despite being mentally prepared, he still felt a bit strange.
He pointed to the clause that read, "It is not allowed to discuss the company's ongoing games with anyone outside of work. Those who cause leaks of game secrets will be subject to a maximum compensation claim of 10 million RMB." He asked the doctor, "Isn't this compensation a bit excessive? 10 million, I'm not even worth that much if I were sold."
"This is a restrictive clause, generally not enforced, it's just in the agreement," the man with glasses said, pushing up his glasses. He then asked, "Mr. Su, do you agree to this agreement? If so, let's sign it."
"Alright." Su Peng looked at the agreement and signed his name...
After Su Peng signed, the man with the doctor-like demeanor nodded with a smile, put away the contract, and called over a man wearing dark sunglasses.
This man was not tall but very efficient, dressed in a black casual suit, and wearing dark sunglasses. If you didn't look closely, you might mistake him for a security guard outside.
"Hello, I'm Shi Qianjun, the head of the后勤保障 (logistics support) team. If you have any daily life issues, you can come to me," the cool guy with dark sunglasses nodded and extended his hand to Su Peng.
"Alright, let me show you the work location," the cool guy said after shaking hands, then led Su Peng out of the interview hall.
As they walked out, Su Peng noticed a few others who seemed to be interviewees standing outside.
Among them was a tall man over 1.8 meters with thick eyebrows and big eyes; a short and plump man around 1.6 meters tall, who looked about 21 or 22 years old, with a shrewd appearance, like a cunning businessman; and a man wearing glasses, a black T-shirt, and looking like a student, who was rather slim.
The man in the black T-shirt smiled at Su Peng, who nodded in return. The other two just glanced at Su Peng.
"Let's go." Shi Qianjun led the way, using a card to enter the elevator on this floor.
The five of them entered the elevator, and Su Peng noticed that the elevator went directly from the 7th floor to the 18th floor, with no buttons for other floors.
"Special elevator?" Su Peng thought.
Shi Qianjun pressed the button for the 18th floor and then entered a password on a lock above the elevator buttons.
The elevator quickly arrived at the floor, and the doors opened. Shi Qianjun led them to this floor, which was marked as the 18th floor. Su Peng noticed a corridor with a few sofas. Shi Qianjun introduced it as the "public rest area."
He then led them further inside, where there were three corridors. Two were on the left and right, and one extended straight ahead.
"The left corridor is the tea room, with various drinks, a small basketball facility, and a billiard table. It's where employees can relax and rest during breaks," Shi Qianjun pointed to the shorter corridor.
"The middle corridor leads to the work area, divided into four groups based on job responsibilities: the Dark Falcon Group for intelligence gathering, the Dragon Tooth Group for elite boss raids, the Tiger Guard Group for field boss raids, and the Red Feather Group for logistics and equipment. However, new employees are not assigned to groups initially. You will undergo a one-month probationary period, and based on your performance and character development, you will be assigned to one of the four groups."
He then pointed to the right corridor and said, "The right corridor is the dormitory area. Each of you has an independent room with a private bathroom. There are also public bathrooms at the ends of the left and right corridors."
"My office is also on the left corridor, at the far end. If you have any questions, you can come to me."
"Private conversations are prohibited during work hours. Be careful; the company can hear and see everything you say."
He pointed to the circular 360-degree camera on the ceiling.
After explaining, Shi Qianjun took out four cards and handed them to Su Peng and the others. "These cards are your access cards and identity cards. Keep them safe; without them, you won't be able to leave the company."
"Alright, I have nothing else. I'll leave now." Shi Qianjun nodded and walked to his office on the left.
Seeing Shi Qianjun walk away, the man with glasses and the student-like appearance stuck out his tongue and said, "The rules are really strict."
He then looked at Su Peng and the others and said, "Hello, I'm Sun Shijia, a recent college graduate. This is my first time looking for a job."
"I'm Fu Kang, 25 years old... what I do is confidential due to the contract," the short and plump man said.
"I'm Ji Ming, 24 years old. I came here because the working conditions are very attractive," the tall man with thick eyebrows and big eyes said.
"Hi, I'm Su Peng, 23 years old. Nice to meet you all," Su Peng said with a very friendly smile. Seeing Su Peng's friendliness, the others chatted with him a bit more, but there wasn't much to talk about since the company's rules clearly prohibited private non-work-related conversations.
"Shall we tidy up and move in?" Su Peng took the lead in the conversation and smiled at the others.
Sun Shijia, the recent graduate with glasses, who seemed to be staying at a youth hostel, happily agreed.
The others had no objections and each went to the room indicated on their access cards.
Su Peng found his room, used his access card to open the door, and saw a room similar to a hotel business suite. It had an independent bathroom with a shower, and the interior was nicely decorated. There was an Apple computer on the desk, and a small refrigerator in the room. Su Peng opened it and found it stocked with various sodas, beers, and snacks.
"Looks pretty good..." Su Peng looked around the room, which was equivalent to a business hotel.
...
Su Peng didn't return to his rented house but went to "Youjian Affairs Office" and waited until 12 o'clock.
"This time, you're on time," a slightly hoarse voice said in the room just after 12 o'clock.
"Every time, I don't know how you get in," Su Peng said, sitting at the desk to the man in the trench coat.
The man didn't respond, took a few steps forward, and handed over a check. "The remaining amount, 500,000 RMB. Check it."
Su Peng smiled and pushed the check back with one finger. "Thanks, but the job isn't over yet."
"What's the matter?" the man in the trench coat asked. Su Peng said, "I've infiltrated that suspicious company. If everything goes as planned, I'll come into contact with the mysterious game you mentioned in a day or two."
"What?" the man in the trench coat said in a low voice, his face hidden in the hood, his eyes flickering.
"I remember you said this is a very unique game, and if you were to play it, it might usher in a new era for humanity..." Su Peng looked at the man's face hidden in the hood, trying to make eye contact.
"Alright... then the commission continues. If you can bring out one of the mysterious game consoles I mentioned from the company, I'll pay 30 million RMB..." the man in the trench coat said.
