Listen to "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," which Wang Yu wrote for a full five and a half years, taking a break for over half a month. Now, he is about to start writing his new book, "Heavenly Demon Chronicles."
Before the main text of the new book begins, I don't want to write any more sentimental remarks. Instead, I plan to share some memorable memories with everyone.
I remember that when I was very young, due to the influence of TV adaptations of "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and other dramas from Hong Kong and Taiwan, I was already exposed to martial arts novels by Jin Yong and other masters. Later, when I entered junior high school and came across novels like "The Sword of Mount Shu," I became even more obsessed.
Ha ha, thinking about it now, the thick glasses I've worn for so many years were probably mostly due to this.
After the high school entrance exam, I was admitted to a vocational school in Wuxi for mechanical engineering, where I had to live on campus for the entire semester, away from my family.
At that time, I was just a teenager, and apart from the necessary living expenses, I naturally didn't have much extra money. There were no internet cafes or similar places, and it was impossible to go to high-consumption venues like movie theaters.
So, most of my free time was spent in a book rental shop not far from the school. On weekends, I would even rent entire sets of books and move them to the dormitory.
Because after evening, the rental fee would be counted as two days.
So on weekends, I usually went to rent books around 9 or 10 in the morning and returned them around 7 or 8 in the evening.
During this long period, I could lie on my bed in the dormitory, happily reading the novels I rented, and quickly become immersed in them, unable to pull myself away.
Sometimes, I would even forget to eat lunch, and it would take a reminder from my dorm mates to remember.
Of course, to save money, my reading speed got faster and faster, and the habit of skimming through novels was probably cultivated during that time.
This has been both an advantage and a disadvantage for me now.
On the good side, because I read quickly, I can accumulate and recharge various story plots at an astonishing speed, which gives me a sense of ease when creating the outline and plot of my own novels.
On the bad side, because I skim through novels, I always have a vague feeling about the details of some novels, and it can be quite challenging to come up with specific sentences and words.
This is probably the main reason why I can't write very fast.
Thinking about it now, those years of studying away from home were probably the most carefree years of my life.
Firstly, the school was indeed quite relaxed in its management. Secondly, there was no pressure from life or work. Thirdly, I was still young and didn't know about dating, so I didn't spend any time or energy on it.
He he, don't laugh at me. Back then, we were all very innocent, and I remember that few of my classmates at the school had girlfriends.
