Chapter 10

Shallow Green City is a port city situated along the coast of the Chengdu region. Although it is as renowned as the Kanto region's Leaf City, a famous port city, the number of residents here is far fewer than in Leaf City. This is because Leaf City in the Kanto region is a passenger port, where the ships that dock are mainly cruise ships, and the influx of tourists drives the local economy. In contrast, Shallow Green City is primarily a cargo port, with most of the ships that enter being cargo vessels. The daily operations of Shallow Green Port mainly involve serving as a cargo transshipment hub between the Kanto continent, the Whirl Islands, and other continents. Most of the residents here are port workers, and there are very few locals. The people who visit here are either sailors from the cargo ships or trainers preparing to participate in the Whirl Islands tournament. As for the residents of the Whirl Islands? Well, they have their own boats, and they are closer to Azure City.

So, when Yeziyun saw this port city, a sense of desolation naturally arose.

"Really... so quiet!"

Yeziyun muttered to himself while sitting on Dodo's back. Although in the game, the number of outdoor NPCs in Shallow Green City was already known to be few, being in such a place in real life still gave him an indescribable feeling of desolation.

"Shut up! Most of the people in this city work at the port! How can there be people wandering around the streets during the day!"

The female trainer didn't hesitate to knock Yeziyun's head. Hmm... it felt pretty good. Just as the girl was about to raise her hand again to knock a few more times, the little boy in front of her had already flipped off her back and landed on the ground.

Yeziyun, seeing the girl's unsatisfied expression, broke out in a cold sweat. He quickly asked for directions to the Pokémon Center, thanked her, and left this somewhat strange girl.

On the way to Shallow Green City, Yeziyun had already learned some things from the girl. The most important was that although Trainer ID cards were beginning to be widely used, they were still in the promotion phase. Currently, as long as you had your own Pokémon, you could stay at the Pokémon Center, although it would cost money.

However, if you registered for an ID card on the spot, you could stay for free immediately. Although Yeziyun didn't like this somewhat coercive promotion method, it was still free accommodation and food, and it was normal to verify your identity, after all, in case something happened, it could provide useful clues to the police.

Yeziyun stepped into the somewhat aged Pokémon Center. The door wasn't an automatic one; it had to be pushed open. Nurse Joy's hairstyle wasn't the standardized one, and it was unclear if the current standardized hairstyle was this. Although Chansey still looked the same as in his memory, there was no nurse's cap on its head. There was no background music like in the game, and no high-tech healing machines...

In short, the Pokémon Center from nine years ago hadn't yet reached the standardized decoration and equipment of the future.

"Welcome to the Shallow Green City Pokémon Center. Can I help you with anything?"

Although the Pokémon Center was less advanced than it would be nine years later, Nurse Joy's professionalism had never diminished.

After asking, when Nurse Joy learned that Yeziyun was just half a month away from turning 10, she immediately started explaining the benefits of the Trainer ID card and recommended that Yeziyun apply for one. It was only then that he learned that as long as the age difference was no more than three months, you could become a Trainer early! But thinking about it, it made sense, otherwise, how could there be so many new Trainers born on the same day...

So, after handing over the Poké Balls of Light and Magikarp to Nurse Joy, Yeziyun took the application form she handed him.

He casually found an empty table and started filling out the form. The form was quite strange, requiring very little information, only a "goal" fill-in-the-blank and a choice of profession, with no options for name or gender. The professions included Trainer, Breeder, and Observer, which were the most common in the Kanto region. There was also an "other" option, which allowed you to write in your own profession. Although the first three professions made up the majority, there were still non-native residents from other regions, and for most people, being a Trainer was a side job. As long as you had your own Pokémon, you could be considered a Trainer, but your main job might not be a Trainer.

So, after some thought, Yeziyun chose "other" and wrote "Fisher" and "Coordinator" as his professions. Fishing would likely be a lifelong pursuit, even if he left the Pokémon world, as long as he didn't give up or quit, his main job would always be a Fisher.

As a Fisher, compared to the pure Trainer's style of pursuing high damage or defeating opponents in the shortest time, Yeziyun's battle style was more focused on skill coordination and versatility. Fishermen are never short of patience, and while being aggressive is possible, most of the time, they prioritize stability. This battle style is also a common trait among Chinese Pokémon players, who often use various flanking tactics, leading to prolonged battles, which often frustrate foreign players who prefer direct, aggressive combat.

This style of battle is more aligned with Coordinators in this world. Whether Yeziyun would participate in the Contests in the future was unknown, perhaps he would do it as a way to change his mood? As for the Gym battles, unless the plot started or there were certain necessary situations, Yeziyun wouldn't likely participate.

In the "goal" section, he wrote, "With my heart in my hands, I will walk the world and fish the seas." He then handed the form back to Nurse Joy. After pressing his fingerprint on a fingerprint recognition board, Yeziyun learned that in this world, personal information didn't need to be asked. Everyone's DNA and fingerprint samples were taken at birth, and all information like place of birth was on file with the police!

Damn! This is too high-tech! Is it really okay to have such advanced methods in this era?! No wonder the evil organization members' uniforms all come with gloves! Is this the reason?!

Well, it has to be admitted that in this world, any technology related to Pokémon develops extremely fast, while other unrelated technologies lag behind. If something can be done with Pokémon power, they don't even think about it. So, please don't be curious why, in a world where space compression technology is so advanced, the Pokémon Center's phones still look like old-fashioned phone booths, even though they have video call functions... ===========================

This chapter is a quick write-up to make up for yesterday's late update. As a transitional chapter, it is very plain and short. So, even though it's a simple tea, please don't mind it.
