Chapter 9

Due to oversleeping yesterday, the update was late, so I'm making two updates today as compensation. I'm asking for clicks and favorites for my new book~ I can only update one chapter a day in April, and I really feel bad about it.

========== Main Text Begins ==========

"Beep! Use Peck!"

Beep's two beaks flashed with a light, then charged at Drifloon.

"Water Sport!"

At Yeziyun's command, Drifloon waved its gossamer-like tentacles, controlling the moisture in the air to condense into water droplets. The droplets gathered and sprinkled down, giving a feeling of splashing water.

Hmm? Why did it turn out like this? It all started with Yeziyun's question.

Yeziyun asked the female trainer where she was from, just to find out how far the next town was. But the other party seemed to misunderstand something. After some hesitation, she said, "If you win the battle, I'll tell you."

Yeziyun didn't think much of it. It wasn't that he didn't want to, but he didn't think his 9-year-old age would make the female trainer have any special feelings. However, since she requested a battle, he decided to fight. Thus, Yeziyun's first battle as a trainer happened rather inexplicably.

"Little boy, are you a beginner? Water Sport only reduces the damage of Fire-type moves; it has no effect on my Beep's attacks!"

The female trainer kindly reminded him, showing that she was a warm-hearted person who cared for beginners.

But in her heart, she thought, "This little cutie is really a beginner! But that Pokémon I've never seen before seems to be a Water-type. Although I've seen more Water-types because I live in Verdanturf Town, I just guessed based on the Pokémon's color. Looks like I guessed right. Beginners are good, and he's quite cute. Maybe I can comfort him a bit when he starts crying..."

Yeziyun looked at the charging Beep and then at the obviously distracted female trainer, a chill ran down his spine.

"Dissolve!"

Yeziyun decisively ordered. Since the other party was so dismissive, he couldn't help but want to hit harder!

Following Yeziyun's command, Drifloon charged directly into the small puddle created by Water Sport. Then, it dissolved into the water, disappearing from Beep's sight without even a splash.

Seeing the opponent suddenly disappear, Beep stopped in confusion. It seemed that, as the trainer had said, this Beep had only been caught recently and had never encountered an opponent that could use Dissolve before. After all, in the Johto region, there were only a few wild Pokémon that knew this move, such as Mudkip, Water Pokémon, and Magby. These Pokémon were either rarely used, not found nearby, or were rare, not something you'd see on the street.

"Dissolve?! I didn't expect it to know this move."

The female trainer was surprised, but only for a moment. As someone who had lived in Verdanturf Town since childhood, she had seen rare Water Pokémon and the Dissolve move before. Verdanturf Town, as one of the two ports in Johto leading to the Whirl Islands, was a place where trainers participating in the Whirl Islands tournament, a Water-type Pokémon competition, had to pass through before Mauville City was fully developed.

However, seeing was one thing, and she never thought she would encounter a similar opponent. She was at a loss for a moment. Her family was in the mail business, mainly responsible for the mail exchange between Verdanturf Town and Saffron City. So, she had grown up around Flying-type Pokémon like Pidgey. Her relative had given her a Beep for her birthday, which she cherished greatly.

With the trainer at a loss, Beep had no choice but to stop and wait for instructions.

"Indeed, this girl is still a very new beginner! Drifloon, use Bubble!"

Seeing the other side's inaction, Yeziyun wouldn't show mercy. There was no possibility between them, and he would eventually leave this world, so he didn't need to start anything at such a young age.

Drifloon reacted quickly, surfacing from the water and spitting out a string of bubbles toward the stunned Beep.

"Ah! That's so cheap! Beep, use Fury Attack!"

Hearing Yeziyun's voice, the girl finally reacted, complaining as she gave the order. Beep's beaks glowed white, and it pecked continuously. With a series of cracking sounds, Beep took the attack without any damage.

The atmosphere became tense. Beep couldn't find the dissolved Drifloon, and Drifloon's two attack moves, Absorb (a Grass-type move) and Bubble (a Water-type move), were either ineffective against the Flying-type Beep or had been countered. Both sides stopped and thought about their next move.

Yeziyun looked at the sun, realizing that the current situation was more disadvantageous for him. The puddle on the ground was created by Drifloon's Water Sport, which, while lasting indefinitely in the game, would evaporate in reality.

"Bubble! Foam Mode!"

In the past few days, although Yeziyun's fishing had been unproductive and he had even been bothered by Magikarp, he never stopped training Drifloon. With Drifloon's limited moves, diversifying the use of its skills became the best choice. So, while Yeziyun fished, Drifloon practiced the speed of its Dissolve move in the water. Yeziyun also taught it to use Bubble in a foam-like form, inspired by the scene where a Kingler used this move to slide opponents away.

Even without the protagonist's aura, making the opponent slip should be possible!

With this belief, under Yeziyun's efforts, Drifloon successfully learned this new way of using Bubble. This move, when used in this form, focused more on the slowing effect rather than power. The foam was also more concentrated, and Yeziyun had tested it; the foam's strength and resilience were surprisingly similar to that of an inflatable life ring!

Thus, Drifloon surfaced, completely ignoring Beep's quick Flash, and the white foam-like bubbles covered the entire field. Why ignore it? Ghost-type Pokémon are immune to Normal-type attacks, didn't you know? If you don't, go check the type chart.

Then, Beep performed various sliding stunts on the foam-covered ground. And then? And then there was nothing more. Beep was hit by the normal mode Bubbles from all angles and lost its ability to battle honorably.

Yeziyun was relieved that the opponent was Beep. If it had been a Pidgey... well, Yeziyun had to admit that with Drifloon's current moves, it would be a hopeless situation against a Pidgey, and he would be thoroughly beaten.

Foam on the ground? Dissolve? Sorry, Pidgey can fly and completely ignore these moves, having the advantage in the air. Normal mode Bubble? Pidgey doesn't even need to peck with its beak; a single Gust would disperse the bubbles, after all, bubbles are just bubbles, not Foam Beam!

After seeing Beep peck the bubbles, Yeziyun gained a deeper understanding of the differences between reality and the game. He needed to study the various moves in reality more.

Now, Yeziyun was riding on Beep's back, with the female trainer sitting behind him. He was flying toward Verdanturf Town at a speed he had never experienced before...
