They spent the New Year’s holidays playing online games from time to time, and their carefree days quickly passed. After everybody returned to the club, what waited for them was teamwork and designated map training.
Altogether, Alarm Dawn had four separate specialty maps, ABCD. The specific composition of the maps were randomly generated. The settings and items grew more complex and diverse from Map D to Map A, and the changes that may occur in the game were more and more abundant, which suited teams with rich tactics.
For Titans, a team that overwhelms their opponents with their strength, the relatively conventional and straightforward maps like Map D and C were more advantageous. The map that they drew in the Asia Championship finals was also Map C.
Like the Asian Regionals, the WCAD’s three-round format also adopted the same drawing system. For the participating players, it was naturally necessary for them to properly familiarize themselves with the characteristics of each map and not slack off.
When Yao Sen returned to Yiyou that night, he recalled that he seemingly hadn’t gone live for a week—having spent those days at home playing with Shao Han and the others. Therefore, after he tidied up his things, he sat down at his computer desk and sent out a quick post on weibo before directly going live.
Not long after he went live, just as Yao Sen was about to login to the game, someone suddenly knocked on his bedroom door.
Yao Sen first thought that it was Bai Yue coming over in search of Wang Yuxi’s snacks, but come to think of it, why would Bai Yue knock on the door? He turned around and answered, “Come in.”
The door opened, and the person standing outside the door was unexpectedly—Shao Han.
Shao Han had a small lunchbox in his hands. Right as he was about to come in, he saw Yao Sen’s computer screen and stopped in his tracks, then took a step back. “Are you livestreaming?”
“It’s okay, I haven’t started yet.” Yao Sen removed his earphones. “What’s up?”
Shao Han tried his best to stay out of the webcam’s range, taking a detour round the room to get to Yao Sen’s side, then placed the lunchbox on the table. Yao Sen looked down and saw that the lunchbox was full of cherries.
Shao Han: “My mom told me to bring them, they’re really tasty. Do you… want to eat them?”
When Shao Han took out the fruits as he was unpacking his luggage and saw the plump, rosy cherries, his first reaction was to wonder whether Yao Sen loved eating cherries or not.
Even though he wanted to forget about it all when the thought first came up, as if possessed, Shao Han washed the cherries and packed them in a lunchbox. Once he came to his senses, he was already standing outside the door of Building A’s Room 1522.
Yao Sen looked up at him. A moment later, the corners of his mouth faintly curled up and he stood up, saying, “Of course, I’ll go wash them.”
“You don’t need to, they’ve already been washed.” Shao Han stared at the screen. The webcam only captured his arm and half of his body. “You’re livestreaming, I’ll come over for the box tomorrow. This is from Xiao Meng.”
Shao Han handed him a light blue postcard, a chibi version of Yao Sen drawn on the blank space. The cute chibi with a larger-than-normal head wore a black team uniform and held a trophy in his hands. Next to it was a row of blue letters in a neat font: “Happy New Year, God Sen! Xiao Meng will always support you!!”
Yao Sen stared at the postcard, at the trophy in the chibi’s hands, and his heart completely warmed, the corners of his mouth curling open subconsciously. “Thank you, I like it a lot.”
Although Yao Sen was expressing his gratitude to Xiao Meng, his faint smile was so charming and mesmerizing that it made Shao Han’s heart clench. Shao Han couldn’t help but avert his eyes—although it made him feel that he was being a little rude by not looking the other man in the eye as he spoke, it was better than talking to him with warm reddened cheeks.
“I’m glad you like it.” Shao Han quietly said, “I won’t bother you then.”
After Shao Han left, Yao Sen popped a cherry into his mouth. Before he even lowered the corners of his mouth, he turned and saw that his livestream room was flooded with scrolling comments.
[? ? ? ? ! ! ! ! !]
[No, God Sen, you haven’t streamed for a week and now you’re showing us this??? What are you???]
[Who was that next to God Sen?]
[That cool voice definitely belongs to Shao ge aahhh!!!!!!!]
[Mark the key points! Shao ge sent God Sen personally washed cherries]
[Have we unlocked Shao ge’s wifely attributes????]
[SenZuo is so real….. I’ve collapsed from the sweetness…]
[Don’t enter, this is the scene of a large-scale dog slaughter, extremely tragic]
[What was written on that small card that Xiao Zuo gave God Sen just now!!]
“I’m not showing you guys.” Yao Sen swept a passing glance at the barrage. Although he was secretly happy, he duly stopped his fans from infinitely cheering on the CP. After all, half of his fans were serious game fans. “Okay, let’s get down to business.”
Yao Sen’s good mood caused him to directly add another half an hour to his livestream duration, and he played the game while finishing the entire box of cherries.
When Wang Yuxi came back and spotted the empty, washed box on the computer table after, he casually asked, “What were you eating?”
“Cherries.”
“And you didn’t even leave some for me?”
“They were from Shao Han.”
Wang Yuxi instantly rolled his eyes. “Good for you.”
The next morning, Shao Han came to fetch his lunchbox from Yao Sen. After he returned from delivering the fruits and postcard to Yao Sen last night, he opened Yao Sen’s livestream. As a result, he was unable to continue watching the stream due to the fans’ teasing.
At first, he had already forgotten this matter, and yet in the end, it came to mind once again as he stood in front of Yao Sen today. When Shao Han took his lunchbox, his expression was somewhat uneasy.
Yao Sen: “Shao Han, tonight…”
Just as Yao Sen opened his mouth, there was a sound of rushed incoming footsteps. When whoever had come saw that the door to Yao Sen’s room was not closed, he directly came in, clutching the door frame.
The person who had come was a member of Titans’s second team, and he was startled when he saw Shao Han. He hastily peered into the room and spotted Yao Sen sitting there, then said in a panic, “Captain! Jiang Yang is fighting with two people from Pioneer’s youth training team!”
Stunned, Yao Sen promptly stood up and frowned. “Jiang Yang fought with someone?”
That kid Jiang Yang was normally a little vigorous, but Yao Sen genuinely didn’t expect that it could reach this point. Unexpectedly, he actually dared to roll up his sleeves. Yao Sen’s expression sank at once.
The member of the second team was also anxious. “Currently, we’ve barely dissuaded them, but they’re still arguing! I’m afraid they’ll start fighting again. Coach Gou isn’t here either. Captain, hurry and stop them ba! Jiang Yang will definitely listen to you!”
Although Shao Han didn’t know who Jiang Yang was, he also felt a little appalled upon hearing this. Pioneer was another club that had moved into the Yiyou Building; things had been uneventful for several years, so why did they suddenly clash with Titans’s players?
Shao Han felt that it wasn’t proper for an outsider like him to ask too many questions about the Titans’s internal matters, so he told Yao Sen to go and take a look first. Yao Sen looked at Shao Han and said, “Wait. I…”
Yao Sen thought for a moment, then simply grabbed Shao Han’s wrist. “You might as well come along.”
Before Shao Han could react, he was pulled away by Yao Sen with his lunchbox in his hand.
When Yao Sen arrived at the communal gym, he immediately saw Jiang Yang inside, his face unsightly as he stared at the two boys across the room with disdain in his angry eyes. His hair and collar were slightly dishevelled, looking like he’d just been fighting.
Jiang Yang stood next to the other two members of the second team. They pulled at his arms, one on his left and the other on his right. The two Pioneer youth training team members were standing to one side, still panting slightly. They looked angry too, seemingly cursing nonstop under their breath.
Yao Sen swept a glance at them first to make sure that their fight wasn’t too serious; there weren’t any obvious wounds, at least. He was a little relieved.
Yao Sen said to Shao Han, “Give me a minute.”
He raised a hand and rapped on the glass door, the muffled sound of obvious displeasure under his palm making everyone in the gym go pale. Yao Sen walked over unhurriedly, not much showing on his face. His voice was terribly deep. “Jiang Yang, who are you showing your temper to?”
When the other two Titans second team members saw that Yao Sen had come, a look of shame crossed their faces. Jiang Yang looked at Yao Sen frankly, his tone tinged with unrestrained anger, “I’m giving these two a show!”
In the end, the two Pioneer members were only members of the youth training team, and they didn’t quite dare to be rash in front of Yao Sen. They merely stared at Jiang Yang with unabated fury, and spoke out rather harshly, “Captain Yao Sen, is this the quality of the Titans Club?”
Jiang Yang’s eyes burned with anger and he suddenly took a step forward. Yao Sen raised a hand to block him, pushing him back and solemnly saying, “I’m right here and you still wanna fight? Am I your captain or not?”
Jiang Yang gaped, but no words came out. He clenched his fists and turned his head.
Yao Sen knew in his heart that Jiang Yang was not an unreasonable person, even with his impulsive temper; on the contrary, after their one-on-one talk last time, Yao Sen felt that he was actually a straightforward and simple person who plainly says and does what he wants to say or do. His personal conduct wasn’t that complicated at all.
Yao Sen’s expression eased up some, and he put up a polite smile. His tone was quite sincere as he said to the Pioneer youth training team, “I apologize to the both of you on behalf of our team. I hope you’ll forgive us. If you’re still unsatisfied, feel free to contact our manager directly. Please stop seeking out our team members privately.”
One of the boys frowned. “He obviously…”
Yao Sen: “If there’s anything else, please speak to our manager.”
Faced with Yao Sen’s nonchalant attitude, the two boys hit a wall. Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t pick out any faults from this unbiased attitude, so they had no choice but to resentfully shut their mouths and turn to leave. When the two boys went out, they ran into Wang Yuxi, who had rushed to the scene after hearing the news. Wang Yuxi was followed by Zhou Ziyu, who was panicking and worrying about Jiang Yang. Seeing that there were two more Titans members there, the two boys immediately hastened their pace.
Seeing that Zhou Ziyu had come, Jiang Yang, who had always bore a grudge in his heart, looked like he’d smelled something bad.
Since the two boys had been sent away, there were no more worries about losing face in front of outsiders. Yao Sen turned to look at Jiang Yang with an unhappy look that almost evoked Wang Yuxi’s psychological shadow of being abused by the man.
Yao Sen said indifferently, “Go on, talk. Tell us what happened.”
Jiang Yang snorted. “They were shit-talking us. I just wanted to teach them a lesson.”
“Shit-talking what?”
Jiang Yang raged, “They were whispering about how we only won last year’s Asia Championship because of our dogshit luck! They said it was impossible for us to beat Lincoln and Odin at the WCAD! They also said that you’re just a copy of Caesar, and that you don’t have your own style of play!”
Jiang Yang paused, his voice low. “I stood right there in my Titans uniform, was I invisible to them? Isn’t it just because they wanted me to hear them? Well I not only heard them, but I’ll also humiliate them!”
Yao Sen quietly watched him. Wang Yuxi and Zhou Ziyu didn’t speak either.
When Shao Han who was standing at the door heard this, his heart tightened.
Yao Sen sighed. “So? That’s it?”
“You’re the captain, if they say something to you, it’s equivalent to saying it to the entire Titans Club.” Jiang Yang shrugged off his teammates. They tried to persuade him but withdrew at his glare. He then turned to Yao Sen. “In any case, I can’t stand it.”
“If that’s how it is, then I’d be pissed within minutes,” Yao Sen said. “Just because I’m the captain, it doesn’t mean that I should care about all that. I’m leading a team to defeat those teams that I don’t lead, not for you guys to spend your days minding about what other people say. Whether I copy Caesar or not, people who love talking smack will just talk smack. You got that?”
