I, Masahiro Yoshida, entered a university that wasn't so prestigious that I had to repeat a year, but I did repeat a year before enrolling. After that, I got a job at a renovation sales company and spent my days as a salesman.
It was a company that probably reached the level of being called a "black company" by society. When work ended late at night, there was nothing to look forward to except eating, and drinking alone at my regular izakaya became a daily routine.
Then, on that day, I encountered a customer complaint that happened at least once a month, and to relieve my stress, I got drunk at my usual izakaya. On my way home, I slipped and hit my head, and although I managed to get home, I apparently died in bed. I was 28 years old.
Despite all that, after I died, I awoke in heaven in a state of exposed soul due to an angel's mistake. Since awakening means I can't be reincarnated in the cycle of rebirth, I was reborn in another world with my memories intact.
The angel who made the mistake was to accompany me to the other world as a form of taking responsibility. However, she didn't come as an angel but as my twin sister.
In a world where my usual common sense doesn't apply, having support is honestly a relief. That said, I can't expect her to have angelic powers. She will only provide support in terms of knowledge.
Well, in my previous life, I worked tirelessly, and the only time I can think of enjoying life with hobbies or travel was during my university days. After getting a job, things were as you see. Since I've been reborn in another world, I want to try to have a better life this time and enjoy it.
So, I asked the angel (her attributes and numbering were her name, but she was named Nicola by my parents in this world) about this other world while lying on the bed.
When I say "lying on the bed," it's not a romantic bedtime story; it's just that two infants are lying on a crib with railings.
The name of this world is Fergal. It's a typical sword and magic fantasy world. I thought that since there's magic, gods might be directly involved, but apparently, they only concern themselves with the cycle of souls.
Magic is the act of manifesting energy called mana, which resides within the body, into the material world according to the caster's imagination.
There are also spirits, so there's a type of magic called spirit magic where spirits make up for the lack of mana or imagination. However, spirits aren't everywhere, so while it's efficient, it's not very practical.
As for the culture, the region where I was born seems to be similar to medieval Europe. According to Nicola, the world is quite vast, so there are many other cultures. I think it would be nice to visit them when I grow up.
Next, about my parents and Nicola's parents. They are not nobles with territories; they are a young couple running an inn.
At first, I thought the gods were inconsiderate, but both of my parents seem to have good hearts. When I think about it, dealing with manners and such would be troublesome, and I didn't particularly aspire to be a noble.
When I asked Nicola, she said that if we were nobles, we might be forced into political marriages, and it would make her job (supporting me) more difficult, so it's better to be commoners.
Even though she had to take on a human form in this world due to her own mistake and support me, I hope she can enjoy this world in her own way.
Still, as Nicola mentioned, if we were nobles, we might have been entangled in complicated relationships from birth. Perhaps being born to commoner parents was the will of the gods. Now, only the gods know.
