Clink, clink. The coins fell into the coin box, emitting a tinkling sound.

The bus door closed.

Only Tang Ran and Luo Zhan boarded the bus at this stop, but the all seats on the bus were full.

The bus driver noticed the blind cane in Tang Ran’s hand, starting the bus before taking a look around the bus, saying to Luo Zhan, “There are priority seats in the middle, have someone sitting there give up their seat.”

(they’re actually called 爱心 seats which means kindness or compassion which i thought was cute)

“….”

Naturally, Luo Zhan didn’t know where the location of the priority seats were on the bus, but it didn’t prevent him from turning his gaze around and recognizing passenger seats of a distinctly different color from most other seats in the bus.

He tapped the girl’s blind cane, then held her slender wrist through the jacket she was wearing, “Come with me.”

Tang Ran nodded obediently.

Luo Zhan led her and stopped in front of the first priority seat.

Sitting at the front was a hooligan-looking young man with hair dyed a shade of granny grey and a blue diamond nose stud. He wore headphones and had one leg crossed over the other, not feeling the slightest bit uneasy about occupying the priority seat. On the contrary, he made it look like a single-occupant seat.

Luo Zhan stopped with a lazy look, bent his index finger to knock on the window next to the young man’s face.

The young man frowned, tugging off his headphones as he turned back, “Something wrong?”

Luo Zhan didn’t bother to pay attention to the other party’s provocative tone and turned sideways, making way for the girl who was being held by his wrist, “Excuse me, give up your seat.”

(he uses 劳驾 which is more polite/formal than the more casual 对不起. according to others, it also has the connotation of either being sarcastic or asking for a favor)

If the K University Junior class heard this, then probably quite a few of them would choke on their water from shock—

In all the years they’ve known him, when have they ever heard Young Master Luo say ‘excuse me’?

But the young man apparently didn’t feel he received any special ‘honor’.

He swept a glance at Tang Ran. After a few seconds of resting on the girl’s pretty face, the young man laughed hostilely.

“Is this little blind girl your girlfriend, ah? So much care for her? If I don’t give, what can you do?”

“….”

How would Tang Ran not understand what was happening by now. She hesitantly raised her hand and tugged Luo Zhan’s clothes, “It’s only two stops away, I’ll only be standing for a bit.”

Luo Zhan didn’t move, allowing the little girl to clutch the edge of his shirt. He looked at the young man with an icy look in his eyes, “What does that have to do with you.”

The young man wantonly sized up Tang Ran, turning back with a sickening smile, “If it were my chick, I would give it up. For someone else’s, of course, I wouldn’t-“

(he uses 马子 & after doing a little research, it means ___’s girl but has an insulting/demeaning tone to it. i think)

“Before the word “give” was uttered, it was overshadowed by a muffled bang immediately followed by a painful grunt.

Tang Ran couldn’t see anything, but only heard the alarmed cries of the few strangers around her and their hushed whispering.

She hurriedly gripped tightly at the person’s sleeve, subconsciously opening her mouth: “Luoluo….”

Luo Zhan’s forehead pounded, almost exposing his hard work.

(tbh, the last part either might mean he almost let the dude go, ruining his efforts from before or almost responded, allowing Tan Ran to know what he did (bc she doesn’t know, i believe). not quite sure)

He gritted his teeth as if he hadn’t heard, and looked back at the young man flung by his singular hand against the window who couldn’t even struggle.

Luo Zhan bowed slightly, his voice dropping to its lowest and coldest—

“Open your eyes and look, what does this line say?”

Luo Zhan’s fingers pointed to the line [Elderly, Young, Sick, Handicapped and Pregnant Priority Seat].

Luo Zhan: “I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to sit here—you aren’t qualified for elderly, young, sick, or pregnant, but I can help with the disabled, want to try it?”

The young man knew he had met a tough challenge when he couldn’t even move a finger after all that time. He had the character of bullying the weak and fearing the strong. Now he was pinned against a window, apologizing repeatedly with a sorrowful face.

When he was released by Luo Zhan, he got up and quickly slipped to the back row.

The onlookers watched the whole thing, but Tang Ran could only rely on her ears to figure out what happened.

When it quieted down beside her, the young man who she was holding by the hem of his shirt turned around, and his tone had returned to his usual laziness.

“Alright, sit down.”

He led her over to the seat.

Tang Ran sat down uneasily, “What’s wrong with that man?”

“Nothing,” Luo Zhan glanced up at the back of the bus, coldness contained in his eyes, “He’s just feeling guilty for taking up the priority seat, so he kowtowed to the sign.”

Tang Ran was silent for a few seconds, accepting the answer.

“Okay.”

Luo Zhan finally sent Tang Ran back to the apartment building where she lived.

The young girl stopped in front of the security door downstairs, and instead of pressing the passcode, hesitated for a few seconds then turned behind her.

“Thank you for sending me back.”

Luo Zhan wasn’t planning on sending her up, but the little girl’s obvious meaning of “you can go now” suddenly made the inexplicable irritation that had been suppressed in his heart resurface.

He frowned a little.

“Scared I’ll kidnap you when taking a taxi, still not reassured after finally reaching the doorsteps of your apartment, I really sound like that bad a guy?”

“The cab ride wasn’t because of….”

“If you’re so afraid, then don’t go out alone from now on.” Luo Zhan interrupted coldly.

He blamed the irritation in his heart on the fact that he hadn’t slept well. Luo Zhan knitted his brows, held the umbrella with one hand and turned around to walk back.

Tang Ran was frozen in place, and it took two seconds for her to come back to her senses. She spoke a little anxiously, “Jacket-“

“Throw it away.”

The cold voice came back without a pause.

Walking far away, Luo Zhan’s figure stopped.

He frowned back, remembering that he hadn’t yet asked the girl whose name he didn’t know to delete the AI voice assistant with the losing-face name.

(if you’ve read a chinese novel ever, you’d know abt face. it’s basically a shame meter, thin face means you’re easily embarrassed, thick face means you don’t get as embarrassed, losing face means something humiliating/embarrassing)

But looking at the back of the thin and slender figure, Luo Zhan lowered his eyes back down.

…. Forget it.

Won’t see you again in the future anyway.

Luo Zhan’s turned around with a lazy look, walking into the sky full of pouring rain.

When Tang Ran returned home, Yang Yilan, who was taking care of her, had already returned.

Hearing the sound of the door opening, Yang Yilan, who looked to be around sixty years old, ran out in a hurry. She was relieved when she saw Tang Ran clearly at the entrance.

“You scared me to death, Xiao Ran. It’s raining so heavily outside—why didn’t you answer the phone?”

Half a beat later, Tan Ran snapped into awareness.

She touched her phone, “I was outside, maybe I didn’t hear it.”

“Okay, okay, as long as you’re alright. It’s still raining outside, and you’re afraid of cramped and confined cars, how did you get back?” Yang Yilan stepped closer before noticing the jacket on the girl, “Hey, whose clothes are you wearing?”

Tang Ran slowly took off the jacket, “Someone sent me back, and the clothes are also that person’s.”

“Ah, how many times have I told you not to trust the people outside, you’re such a pretty little girl who can’t see, what will we do if you get kidnapped?”

“….”

Tang Ran involuntarily touched his phone.

“Luoluo” was in there. That person’s voice was so similar, when talking to him, it was like talking to a more “alive” Luoluo.

That’s why I couldn’t resist….

The girl slowly bent her eyes, “I know, granny. It won’t happen again.”

“You, ah. Only know how to say that.”

Yang Yilan took the clothes from Tang Ran’s hand and headed to the bathroom.

“Alright. Xiao Ran, why don’t you go take a shower and get ready for dinner? You have to get up early tomorrow and wait for the Tang family to pick you up.”

Tang Ran asked with surprise, “Early?”

“En, the family called.” Yang Yilan recalled, “It seems like that old master of the Luo family is celebrating his birthday. The Tang family is bent on marrying your sister in, so how could they pass up this great opportunity to show a good gesture? They’ll surely bring the younger generation over to deliver congratulatory greetings and gifts.”

Tang Ran closed her eyes and looked calm, “They usually don’t bring me on these occasions.”

Yang Yilan: “Yes, it’s always been like this—who knows why they suddenly remembered you this time? In any case, let’s prepare ahead of time.”

”Okay.”

”……”

Entering the bathroom, Yang Yilan took a basin to hold the water and soaked the jacket held in her hand.

The jacket submerged into the water, the collar flipping out.

A fancy and dark embroidered design was revealed.

Yang Yilan was stunned, uncertainly lifting the collar to look.

It was a line of foreign letters, like a designer’s signature. Many internationally famous designers liked to leave such markings on their clothing.

As for the one before her eyes, Yang Yilan happened to have an impression—

Much like the handiwork of a famous Swedish designer.

The reason why Yang Yilan knew it was only because the Tang family’s eldest daughter, Tang Luoqian, often mentioned this designer.

And the reason why Tang Luoqian liked it was very simple: rumor has it that the young master of the Luo family only wore the clothes of certain designers, most of his clothes were precisely this designer’s work.

—But Tang Luoqian still had to “wait in line” a few months before even being able to buy this designer’s creations. How could a stranger send Tang Ran back in this jacket?

Yang Yilan stared at the dark, embroidered pattern for a long moment before shaking her head and dipping the garment back into the water.

She muttered to herself.

”That person is Tang Luoqian’s fiancé, not Xiao Ran’s. What are you blindly thinking…. Most likely misremembered, the signatures don’t look similar at all.”

Despite saying that, Yang Yilan carefully washed the jacket well, hanging it up on the balcony.

i was gonna post this next week but in celebration of my brother’s bday, i’m getting it out this week!

i think i like modern novels because usually they have like ten characters (of importance!) max. meanwhile ancient chinese novels casually have like dozens of people (with extremely similar names) that are all significant to the plot. despite that, i do love ancient novels more, which leads me to this week’s recommended novel:

tyrannical wang’s beloved wife! i liked this novel vvv much (except for some of ML’s first interactions w/FL um…) but omg in the beginning, i was literally bombarded by FL’s family and all their names. thankfully, they all got re-introduced slowly to me but i appreciated jen’s character list very much during that time. she takes a lotta time to translate & it shows. also, this salt administration arc is really making my 3 brain cells work but maybe thats bc i just caught up on the last 30 chapters & literally forgot everything.
