Chapter 4.1 – The Mysterious Talk of The Head Teacher (1)

❥❥❥

In the No.3 Middle School, after the fourth class in the afternoon, there is a half-hour break, which is called a big break. During this period of time, the disciplinary class is automatically divided into three groups. The first group is a game party and they will use this time to play computer games. Second group is a video party. They will play some funny videos. The third group is a karaoke party. Sing karaoke with the microphone connected to the speaker.

Nan Xiangwan belongs to the fourth type. Do nothing, read the book silently and recite the text.

In fact, she really hates these people. If you don’t spend your time to study, just relax and sleep on the table. Why do you have to influence others. If she didn’t think it would waste so much time on the road to study in the library, she would have left long ago.

Rocket classes also have big breaks, but the big breaks of the Rocket class are used for exams. When there is no exam, it is quiet and busy. How can it be like now.

Today is the time of the karaoke party. Karaoke lovers sang new songs, old songs, and children’s songs such as “Where is the Spring”, “Calabash Baby”, “The Smurfs”, etc. Sometimes, some people sang English songs. The most incomprehensible thing was that some people sang operas in Italian, and they even sang them in a decent way.

What shocked Nan Xiangwan even more was Lin Xiaoran.

Lin Xiaoran was originally a game party and was best at racing games. He can boil the car in the water every time1, but he is still a devoted game party and enjoys games. Unexpectedly, he stepped onto the podium and clicked a song on a whim today.

[1] Boil the car in the water means he make trouble everytime he plays.

Nan Xiangwan thought that Lin Xiaoran would deliberately sing some funny children’s songs like everyone else. Who knew when the intro begins, it was a soothing piano, with a few notes cyclically back and forth, slowly drawing out a slower melody.

Lin Xiaoran began to sing. The voice was the same as when he was speaking, and it sounded nothing special. The ups and downs of this song are not big, like a personal monologue, it sounds nothing special.

Nan Xiangwan never heard of this song. She didn’t know who the original singer is. She didn’t even know that this was originally a song sung by a female singer.

In fact, she hadn’t heard 90% of the songs everyone sang.

From childhood to adulthood, her mother always prohibited her from participating in any recreational activities on the basis of studying. She could not watch TV or read novels. Listening to popular songs was regarded as heinous behavior by her mother. Although she has an mp3, it can only contain English listening materials, not even English songs.

If she missed it, she missed it. Even if she had the right to listen to songs after she was in college, she had no interest in pop songs. Others will play some songs when they drive, and when Nan Xiangwan drove, she only listen to the radio, a static news channel.

She also had embarrassing moments. It was a team building event organized by the company. A group of colleagues went to ktv to sing. In the face of everyone’s enthusiasm, singing or asking her to come and sing together, she always looked at everyone blankly, as if she was a complete outsider.

Just when Nan Xiangwan set her sights on the book again, the melody suddenly changed. The previously lonely and low monologue turned into a desperate question and cry, and the volume that rose instantly seemed like a huge net, captured everyone’s hearts instantly.

Nan Xiangwan lowered her head and did not move. A certain part of her heart was out of control. As the melody progressed, the heart seemed to be held by someone, there was a throbbing pain. The last time she had this feeling was when she listened to “The Second Spring Reflected in the Moon” in a music class. It was a kind of sadness that would be felt as long as you could hear the sound.

Nan Xiangwan doesn’t understand music, but this does not prevent her from being infected by music. It can’t be said that it is a moving melody or Lin Xiaoran’s performance is touching, her heart has been tugged, and the faint pain made her frown.

The door of the classroom was open. Don’t know when it started, in front of the door was full of people. They looked like classmates from the class next door. They were probably attracted by his singing, and most of them were girls. Everyone scrambled to look in. It seemed that it was not enough to just hear the voice, you must see what kind of person such a voice comes from.

Nan Xiangwan had to admit that Lin Xiaoran was good-looking, at least those girls not feel disappointed after seeing him. There will even be some surprises. Lin Xiaoran’s typhoon1 was very good. He held a microphone in one hand, and the other hand changed its movements along with the melody, not pretentious. He seems to be immersed in his own world, his expression is extremely serious, and he looks as sincere and touching as his singing voice. Even if he is a well-known scumbag, as long as he sing this song, you will think he is a true love saint.

[1] Typhoon in perfomance/hosting term refers to the temperament or demeanor that people show visually in stage performance.

As the last note ended, Nan Xiangwan’s heart finally did not hurt anymore, but something in her heart was still stuck. Until a tear fell from the corner of her eyes, then she feel more comfortable.

Not only her, the girls in the classroom were crying.

Lin Xiaoran, who had just opened his eyes, also discovered this incident. He didn’t realize that he was the culprit, bent down and asked the girl sitting in the first row, “Why are you crying? Who bullied you?”

The girl was in tears, bit her lower lip and said nothing.

Jiang Daling, Nan Xiangwan’s deskmate, couldn’t stand it anymore. She burst into tears with a “Waa”, leaning on the desk, shaking uncontrollably.

Immediately afterwards, more cries sounded.

Lin Xiaoran then raised his head, looked around for a while, and asked strangely, “Why are you all crying?”

Nan Xiangwan finally knows why Xueba2 attracts people’s hatred. Lin Xiaoran is like that kind of Xueba who knows everything, but after finishing the exam, he just said that he had failed the exam. That kind of person really asked to be beaten up.

[2] Xueba : Top student

He put down the microphone, scratched his head for unknown reasons, and walked back slowly.

“Don’t cry, it doesn’t look good when you cry.”

“Okay, okay. Isn’t it just a song, what is there to cry?”

“My God, why are you crying too.”

As he walked, he said to the crying girls on both sides of the aisle.

Seeing him coming, Nan Xiangwan hurriedly wiped the tears from her face. She seldom cried. No matter how her mother scolded her, she never shed a tear. She could cry only because her grades did not meet expectations. Now, she cried because of a song, which is really unreasonable.

Lin Xiaoran walked over. Suddenly met his gaze, Nan Xiangwan panicked for a moment.

Nan Xiangwan knew that when Lin Xiaoran saw her crying, he would definitely seize the opportunity to laugh at her, just like when he saw her grade not as good as him. Nan Xiangwan quickly wondered whether she could use any excuses to cover up, such as she’s yawning just now, or she was crying for a second while studying, or simply refused to admit it and insisted that she did not cry.

But what’s the use? Even if she wiped away the tears, her eyes were still red. It was obviously that she had cried.

Lin Xiaoran returned. He sat down in his seat, facing the back.

Instead of looking at Nan Xiangwan, he looked at Jiang Daling who was sitting next to her, “Why are you crying so hard? Did you get dumped? Or did you dumped?”

Jiang Daling sat up, weeping and cursed, “You got dumped! I hate it, why do you have to sing this song? Makes people want to cry and messed the makeup.”

Nan Xiangwan looked up, sure enough, half of the fake eyelashes on Jiang Daling’s left eye had fallen off. The fake eyelashes on her right eye was all gone, and her eyeliner also smeared, made her black eyelids look like a panda.

“Why don’t you use that waterproof eyeliner.”

“Who knew I would cry today, alas, my contact lens also dropped.” Jiang Daling flattened her mouth and continued to choke, causing Lin Xiaoran to laugh.

It was strange. Nan Xiangwan was sitting next to Jiang Daling, her eyes were red, and she had wiped her tears with her index finger, but Lin Xiaoran didn’t seem to see it. He never asked her why she was crying. It was not until Lin Xiaoran turned back, until the music of “Jasmine” sounded, and until the biology teacher walked into the classroom, Nan Xiangwan was completely relieved. She knew that Lin Xiaoran would not ask.

The excuse she prepared didn’t use at all.

Nan Xiangwan had a strange emotion after being lucky. The teenager sitting in front of her chose to turn a blind eye in order to take care of her self-esteem. It’s like stabbing a deadly sword in a duel, but the opponent gave up resistance at the last moment and let the tip of your sword pierce his heart. You won the duel, but you may not be happy about it. Nan Xiangwan couldn’t believe that the big boy who looked careless and ignorant had such a warm and delicate side.

Yes, how could someone sing such a song if he wasn’t a warm and delicate person?

Nan Xiangwan didn’t know what the song was called, but it didn’t matter. She had secretly recorded the song with mp3 while Lin Xiaoran was singing, because Nan Xiangwan knew that if she didn’t record it, she might never hear such a singing voice again. Nan Xiangwan didn’t tell anyone about this. If she said it, someone would ask her for this recording. After all, not everyone is always ready mp3 in hand, or can respond by pressing the record button right away.

The biology teacher sensed that the atmosphere in the classroom was not right, and curiously asked the girls in the class why they were crying. The good boy in front answered first, “Lin Xiaoran just sang ‘Without You'”

the song Lin Xiaoran sung. Originally sung by Karen Mok.

“Oh?” The biology teacher smiled. She looked at Lin Xiaoran, and said strangely, “I’ll give you time, you can sing another song.” There is frivolousness in the words, it sounds uncomfortable.

Lin Xiaoran didn’t seem to notice the sarcasm in the biology teacher’s words. He stretched his legs and leaned against Nan Xiangwan’s table, said cynically, “Okay, just sing ‘Ugly Monsters'”

“Hahaha…” There was a burst of laughter in the classroom. The sudden sound made the classrooms up, down, left and right agitated. Nan Xiangwan, who was still complaining about Lin Xiaoran a while ago, couldn’t hold back and laughed.

The biology teacher was stunned for a moment. Her face was blue and white. She bit her lower lip and her facial muscles twitched. She seemed to want to laugh too, but she was so angry that she could only pat the desk with a book and order everyone to be quiet and hurry up to start the class.
