Don’t Think of Interrupting Mt Study Chapter 3.3 – Find Someone to Record the Physics Class (3)
***
Early the next morning, Nan Xiangwan took the English book and went to the sixth floor. This time, she walked upright to the door of the Rocket Class classroom and said to the oncoming classmates: “Hulu Wa1, call Liu Yubai.”
[1] Hulu Wa or Calabash Baby is the protagonist in the cartoon ‘Calabash Brothers’.
The boy called the ‘Hulu Wa’ agreed and shouted into the classroom. After shouting, he realized, who is this girl and how can he know his nickname? Could it be that the matter of sleeping and snoring has spread throughout the whole school? In the boy’s uncertain eyes, Nan Xiangwan smiled at him, “Thank you.”
Liu Yubai came out soon. He still wore a white shirt in his school uniform, gentle and so good-looking that made people couldn’t look away.
Seeing Nan Xiangwan, Liu Yubai was slightly startled, as if a little surprised, “It’s you?”
“Thank you for what happened yesterday.” Nan Xiangwan handed him the English book, “Return this to you.”
Liu Yubai didn’t take the book because the book in Nan Xiangwan’s hand had changed. The hardcover book that was originally a hard cover was wrapped with a light blue paper book cover, and then covered with a layer of transparent plastic book cover. It looked quite delicate and dazzling.
“Is this the book I lent you yesterday?”
“Yes.” In fact, not only did she wrapped the book with paper cover, she also used the leftover wrapping paper to make a bookmark and put it in the book. She believe Liu Yubai will be more surprised after seeing it.
Liu Yubai looked at the book with a trace of movement in his eyes. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
Before Liu Yubai could pick up the book, a girl who had passed the two took a steps back and stopped in front of them. Seeing Nan Xiangwan, Wang Xiang’s face instantly burst into a smile and enthusiastically asked, “Come to find Liu Yubai again?” She put the weight on the word ‘again’, as if to emphasize something.
Nan Xiangwan didn’t change her expression, “Yes, I come to return the book.”
Wang Xiang laughed, “Yo, finished reading so soon?”
“It’s me…” Liu Yubai wanted to explain for Nan Xiangwan, but this time, it is Nan Xiangwan who gave him a gesture. Her expression was indifferent, neither humble nor overbearing. She didn’t seem to take Wang Xiang’s sarcasm in her heart. “This book does not contain many words and there are no long sentences. The average high school student can finish read it overnight. Is it possible that you still need to spend a few more days?” Nan Xiangwan smiled at this moment, and said in the tone of a person who came by, “Yes, it will be a bit harder to read the original English book for the first time. Just read more.”
She keenly caught the disdain in Wang Xiang’s eyes and continued to say without hesitation, “You, don’t think about how difficult it is to read the original English book. The most important thing to learn English is to have confidence in yourself and firmly believe that you can instead of saying ‘I don’t understand’ when you read it . If you have such a mentality, you can never learn English well.” When Nan Xiangwan said ‘I don’t understand’, she deliberately used Wang Xiang’s tone when she said this sentence to her before. Liu Yubai, who was aroused by the brilliant impersonation, bend his lips unconsciously.
Nan Xiangwan knew that talking like this was not enough to be convince people. So she showed her a hand again, earnestly suggesting: “For beginners like you, you can start from some simple books like ‘The Little Prince, ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’, ‘Flipped’, ‘The House on Mango Street’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, ‘Murder on the Orient Express’…” She said a long list of English book titles, some sound familiar, some never heard of them. The most importan is Nan Xiangwan’s pronunciation is standard and the words are clear. It’s like the accent of those people in English listening materials, but she speak faster than them, which is far beyond Wang Xiang’s expectation.
Seeing Wang Xiang’s face blank, Nan Xiangwan added thoughtfully, “If necessary, I can write it down for you.”
“No, no need.” Wang Xiang stammered. She couldn’t help but secretly look at the girl in front of her. Her face filled with doubts, is this the Nan Xiangwan she knew?
Nan Xiangwan knew what Wang Xiang was thinking at the moment. She also realized that English books she said was not used for reading or examination, but for use after she was in college. She no longer indulged in English question’s tactics, but started to watch American dramas, listen to English news, borrow English original books in the library. Her English level has improved a lot without she knowing it. She can also chat with foreign colleagues about some literary content, no longer confined to the discussion of weather, food and drink.
Nan Xiangwan smiled at this moment, looking very kind and gentle, “Well, if there is anything you don’t understand when learning English, you can ask me any time. I must know everything.”
Wang Xiang was stunned and said uneasily, “Oh, thank you.” She bowed slightly to say goodbye, blushing and running away griefly. To be honest, not only did she thinks Nan Xiangwan’s spoken English is good, she even thinks Nan Xiangwan’s words make sense.
Seeing Wang Xiang ran away in panic, Liu Yubai couldn’t help it anymore. He covered his mouth and laughed lowly. His brows and eyes were curved, like carry a light, made they people feel warm. He took a breath and said with relief, “It looks like I’m too worried.”
Nan Xiangwan looked a little embarrassed, “No, I just frightened her. Actually, I didn’t read a page. I haven’t even turned it over.” After Nan Xiangwan finished speaking, she did not forget to add two words, “Don’t worry.”
Listening to her saying this, Liu Yubai’s expression froze. It’s not strange why she protect this book so much because she loved the book, but rather because she felt worry for no reason and ashamed. Thinking of this, Liu Yubai suggested, “Why don’t I give this book… to you.”
“Ah? How can that be?” Don’t say that the original English book itself is not cheap. Just for the reason “Father’s gift”, it can’t be given away casually.
“No, I can’t.” Nan Xiangwan neatly stuffed the English book into Liu Yubai’s hand, turned around and ran. She was worried that Liu Yubai would catch up, she ran far away with gritted teeth. After going downstairs, she did not forget to look back to see if Liu Yubai had followed.
“Ah!” Suddenly, Nan Xiangwan’s head was held down by someone. She screamed, turned her head only to see Lin Xiaoran standing in front of her. He put one hand in his trouser pocket and raised the other in the air, deliberately pulled a distance to prevent her from hitting him.
“Why are you running around and not looking at the road? Is anyone chasing you?” Lin Xiaoran scolded.
Nan Xiangwan ignored him. While bypassing Lin Xiaoran, she put her hands in her jacket pockets.
“Damn!” Nan Xiangwan suddenly stopped and wailed.
Lin Xiaoran raised his eyebrows, “What’s the matter?”
When Nan Xiangwan put her hand in her jacket pocket, she just touched the mp3 inside. Then she remembered that she was looking for Liu Yubai. Apart from returning the book, the most important thing was to ask him to record the physics class. As a result, she patronized and ran, forgot about the business! What should I do now? Should I go back to him or find someone else?
Seeing her so depressed, Lin Xiaoran also put away his usual cynical appearance, asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Lost money? Why don’t you go back?”
“What!” Nan Xiangwan gave him a blank look. “It’s not that our physics teacher doesn’t teach us. I just want to find someone to record the physics class of the Rocket class, but I don’t know who to asked.”
“Just that?” Lin Xiaoran snorted softly, “You said it earlier, I have one choice.”
“Who?” Nan Xiangwan raised her eyelids absently, then pursed her mouth and said in a low voice, “Don’t tell me it’s Chen Shiyun.” She didn’t want to hear Chen Shiyun’s voice in the recording.
“Of course it’s not her.” Lin Xiaoran’s eyes dimmed when she mentioned Chen Shiyun, but not long, he raised his head again and said slowly, “In the whole rocket class, there should be n one more suitable for recording physics classes than him.”
“Oh?” Nan Xiangwan came up with interest. She also wanted to know who else Lin Xiaoran knew in the rocket class. “Who is it?” Nan Xiangwan asked eagerly.
“The physics teacher in the rocket class.”
“Yeah, why didn’t I expect it.” For a moment, Nan Xiangwan’s happy face darkened again. She said anxiously, “Will he care about you?”
Lin Xiaoran bends the corners of her lips and looks confident, “Nonsense. In fact, he is quite afraid of me.”
“Afraid of you?” Nan Xiangwan laughed. A teacher, not to mentioned a teacher in the Rocket class, why should he be afraid of a student, especially student in the Disciplinary class.
Lin Xiaoran said unhurriedly, “Yes. He is afraid that I will shave my head.”
“What do you mean?” Nan Xiangwan frowned slightly, wondering how this matter has to do with shaved head. On weekdays, she always looks at sentient beings and has a sharp look. Either look down on this or look down on that. Now there is finally something she doesn’t understand. The whole person seems to have changed from a cold lily to a petite Dangui2, even her eyes become soft. This makes people couldn’t help but want squeeze her face hard.
[2] Dangui (also known as golden osmanthus) is a variant of osmanthus. It is a sweet scented osmanthus with many small orange flowers.
Lin Xiaoran was stunned. He wanted to pause this moment, or never tell her the answer, so that she could walk forever with this silly expression. But after all, Lin Xiaoran couldn’t match Nan Xiangwan’s eagerness to get the bottom of the problem so he replied helplessly, “He is my uncle.”
“Huh?” This is the first time that Nan Xiangwan has heard of this saying —uncle died by a shave head in the first month3.
[3] “The first month didn’t shave their heads; the first month in the barber uncle dead.” This is a folk rhyme that has been sung for a long time. This custom originated before and after the Qing court issued a haircut order in 1644.
Lin Xiaoran’s efficiency was very high. He sent the mp3 over before class, and then retrieves the mp3 back after class. Twice a week, rain or shine, never delay. He is a hundred times more dedicated than any courier in the world. It made Nan Xiangwan a little embarrassed.
This afternoon, he took back the silver mp3 again.
Nan Xiangwan saw Lin Xiaoran storming in, raised her face and smiled at him. She reach out to get the mp3, who knew that when she was about to touch the mp3, Lin Xiaoran suddenly retracted his hand, made her pounced the air.
Lin Xiaoran smiled and handed it to her again. Nan Xiangwan stretched out her hand and pounced the air again.
After repeating this several times, Nan Xiangwas was on fire, and she kicked Lin Xiaoran’s stool. Lin Xiaoran didn’t expect Nan Xiangwan to get angry. Even if he had weight blessing, he still staggered and bumped into his desk. He frowned, and said dully, “Just kidding, why so fierce?”
Nan Xiangwan ignored him and slightly raised her chin.
“Here you are.” Lin Xiaoran handed her the mp3 again. Nan Xiangwan said nothing this time. Her chin was still raised, and she didn’t look at him straight.
Lin Xiaoran couldn’t advance or retreat, so he had no choice but to put the mp3 on Nan Xiangwan’s desk and mumbled things like “Thanks to nothing” and “Don’t know good people”.
The raised chin fell down. Not only the chin, even the eyebrows are lowered.
About Lin Xiaoran, Nan Xiangwan’s feelings are very complicated. She didn’t like him very much. She felt that he had poor grades, was arrogant, and always blocked her in class. But he helped her when she needed it most. He was very selfless and helped her without any conditions. She still remembered when she was in the Rocket class, there was fierce competition between each other. Everyone would sit together to discuss problems and help with topics, but more or less there will be some precautions. Everyone also maintained this tacit understanding, tried not to interfere with other people’s notes and materials.
It is precisely because of this that Nan Xiangwan is extremely disturbed by Lin Xiaoran’s ‘selflessness’.
Nan Xiangwan said ‘thank you’ to him. She is not a person who is good at expressing feelings. Her so-called ‘thank you’ is more out of courtesy and to keep her own image. But if you want her to say something other than ‘thank you’ sincerely, she couldn’t say it.
Lin Xiaoran had already turned back. He pressed his backhand on his back, where he had just been bumped by the desk. Looking at his bleak back, Nan Xiangwan became more and more uneasy.
She called him, waved the mp3 in her hand, and muffledly said: “Would you like to listen?” It was his uncle who was giving the lecture and he brought the recording back, so it should be counted as his share.
Lin Xiaoran raised his eyebrows, “Me? Forget it, I can’t hide it.” He suddenly said, “Don’t worry, I can get high scores even if I don’t listen. Who doesn’t know that Lin Xiaoran has always been self-taught. When my uncle heard that I was going to record his class, he was still very happy.”
“Heh…” Nan Xiangwan chuckled lightly and stopped talking. The scumbag is the scumbag. What self-taught, his face is thicker than the city wall.
