Chapter 26: The Goal, the Great Blue Crystal Tower

7 min read1,750 words

After a morning of several classes, Bing Zhiye heaved a sigh of relief, returned to the dormitory, drank a large gulp of water, and lay down on the bed: "Listening to classes all morning is more tiring than fighting all day. I really can't adapt to this lifestyle! I need to think of a way to find an opportunity to get that thing as soon as possible."

The door, which wasn't locked, was suddenly pushed open with a "bang."

"I'll go in first!"

"I'll go in first."

"I'll go in first."

"I'll go in first!"

Wen and Luo were stuck at the door, arguing endlessly, neither willing to yield.

Carol, blocked outside, shouted, "Hey, don't argue over such a small matter. Are you going to let me in or not?"

Wen and Luo pushed their way in, struggling to get to the large water jug to grab the ice water.

Bing Zhiye, lying on the bed, asked Carol, "What's wrong with them? Why are they fighting after just one day?"

Carol, holding her water bottle, waited for them to finish filling it, and sighed, "These two guys, I don't even know what to say. This morning, during the third class, I had a practical lesson in lightning magic, and Luo was also taking it as a minor, so we were in the same class. Unexpectedly, I ran into Wen in the practice room, and they immediately started arguing about whether knights or warriors were stronger. As you can imagine, such arguments always end in a duel. They didn't back down, and even though Wen lost, he argued even more fiercely. They're like oil and water!"

Bing Zhiye turned his head and saw their intense struggle over who would get the first cup of water, and he was truly amazed at their boundless energy after such a heavy class load.

Wen and Luo finally got their water, and Carol, filling her cup, asked Bing Zhiye, "How was your first day at Kulandtin?"

"It was... okay, I guess." Bing Zhiye said reluctantly, as he still felt a bit dizzy. "How about you?"

Carol pouted, "Not bad. The top college in the continent is indeed not just a name. The teaching quality is much better than that of ordinary prestigious schools, especially the practical classes. Did you not take a practical class?"

Bing Zhiye shook his head.

Carol saw a piece of paper on Bing Zhiye's bedside table, picked it up, and opened it. It was his schedule for the week: "This morning... here. Apprentice-level third-grade ice magic theory, apprentice-level second-grade combat skills theory, apprentice-level first-grade fire magic theory, and apprentice-level second-grade wind magic theory. All theory classes? What a devilish schedule. You're really unlucky."

"Ah, it's fine." Bing Zhiye didn't seem to care much.

"Huh?" Carol unfolded the schedule again, "You haven't filled in your elective classes for next week yet? Hey, fill it out quickly. You need to submit it to your head teacher, who will arrange your classes. Otherwise, next week you'll be taking all the recommended courses, and you won't be able to choose based on your preferences."

"Ah, next week..." Bing Zhiye leaned back, remembering Spalik's words. He probably wouldn't be in this class next week.

"Alright, alright, pause, pause." Luo, out of breath, made a pause gesture.

Wen, also panting, said, "What, are you giving up? Warriors are the strongest!"

Luo angrily retorted, "Who said that? Nonsense! It's almost lunchtime. Let's eat and then fight again!"

"Ha, who's afraid of who?" They butted heads again, both looking furious.

"Hmm, lunch?" Bing Zhiye suddenly sat up and asked, "Are we going to that restaurant again? No, it's not good to always go there."

Wen and Luo were stunned and simultaneously shouted at Bing Zhiye, "Idiot, eating at a hotel every day, how much would that cost!"

Luo said, "I don't know what you're thinking. You're supposed to be the top genius of the college. If you ate at such an expensive hotel every day, even the richest would go broke, unless you're from one of the five great families. The college provides free meals in the dining hall. The food isn't as good as in hotels, but it's still edible compared to home-cooked meals!"

"Moron, talking to you makes me hungry." Wen also shouted at Bing Zhiye, "I don't care, I'm going to eat. Luo, whoever gets the first bowl of rice is the best!"

"Who's afraid of who? Hey, don't run ahead! Stop..." Luo followed Wen out the door.

"Ah!" Carol shook her head, sipping water slowly, as if savoring a fine wine.

Bing Zhiye thought about it before going to the dining hall, and felt that there was something wrong with everyone in the dorm.

The dining hall was huge, and it was packed with people. The lines for food and dishes were long, and the long metal tables were filled with students.

Wen, seeing such a large dining hall for the first time, was amazed, though he heard there were many more like it in the college.

Luo bought a new food box for each of them, and after a long wait, they finally got the food they liked. The four of them found an empty spot and sat down.

Carol looked up at the blue glass ceiling and the decorations around, "This dining hall is so large and clean, it's the first time I've seen such a place."

"Right," Luo said proudly, "This is Kulandtin. Don't think it's some small rural college. This is the pride of the empire."

"True, with a college like this, anything is possible," Carol said, twirling a strand of spaghetti, "Hmm, it's not bad. It's much better than the small restaurants, but compared to the famous ones..."

Wen, eating a large piece of ham, said, "No, I think it's just as good."

"As long as it's meat, you think it's all delicious," a hand suddenly pressed on Wen's head.

"Irina! Uh, are you done eating?" Luo turned around, looking at them. They had already met yesterday during dinner.

Cornelia smiled, "Yes, the food here is pretty good. The teacher assigned us a project in the morning's item and equipment manufacturing class, so we need to finish it quickly."

"First day of class and already assigned homework? It must be Abigail Dain, right?" Luo said.

Irina was surprised, "How did you know?"

Luo sighed, "How could I not know? The only teacher who assigns homework on the first day is him. The whole college knows. You're really unlucky; he's a rigid old man."

Cornelia and Irina swallowed, looking at the teacher with fear.

Luo, noticing that Carol and the others were silent, turned around, "Hey, what's wrong... Ah, Ab... Abigail teacher!!"

Dain glared at him, his empty food box almost crushed in his hand.

Cornelia awkwardly waved at him, "Sorry, I forgot to tell you, we were eating with Abigail teacher."

"Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry!!" Luo quickly stood up and apologized, blaming himself for being so careless.

Dain stared at him for a long time, his trembling hand showing his anger. Finally, he said in a low voice, "Forget it, every student has a time when they say bad things about their teachers. I won't hold it against you."

Luo felt a great relief and was grateful, "Thank you, thank you, Dain teacher..."

"But!" Dain suddenly shouted, "Listen carefully, I'm not an old man!!"

"Yes! I understand!" Luo straightened up and promised.

Dain finally left, and Luo let out a sigh of relief, his forehead covered in sweat.

Irina giggled, "You guys eat slowly, we're leaving first."

"Okay, bye."

Luo, resting his face in his hand, sighed. Seeing Bing Zhiye not eating, he asked, "Bing Zhiye, hey, what are you doing? Why are you being so quiet again?"

Bing Zhiye smiled, "Nothing, I'm just thinking."

"Thinking about what? So absorbed, tell us." It was Dain, but his mouth was full, making his words unclear.

But Bing Zhiye understood, "I'm thinking, I heard that the Great Blue Crystal Tower has many precious magic books. Can't we students go in and look?"

"Ah?" Wen blinked, suddenly excited, "That's right! I heard that it's full of extremely valuable items, not just magic books, but also various famous weapons and armors. I really want to go in and see. If I could get a set, no, just one piece, I would be so happy, hahaha."

Wen's loud laughter drew many curious glances.

"Idiot." Carol, holding her head, groaned, "How can I be in the same dorm with such a person?"

Luo nodded in agreement, "Yeah, exactly."

"You're not much better!" Carol roared, turning to Bing Zhiye, thinking, "At least he's somewhat normal, but I always feel something is off about him."

Luo said, "The Blue Crystal Tower, don't even think about it. It's impossible to get in."

"Hmm? Are students really forbidden to enter?" Bing Zhiye asked.

Luo shook his head, "Not entirely. Someone like you, Bing Zhiye, might have a chance to visit."

"Why? What about me?" Wen asked.

"You, who ranked near the bottom in the entrance exam, have no chance," Luo said. "The college selects two batches of students each year to read and visit the first and second floors, 500 students each. Only the best students have the chance to enter and enjoy this highly coveted privilege."

Carol, resting her head on her hand, said indifferently, "Hmm, 500 students. I guess this is out of my reach. I might as well give up on this idea."

"True, it's better to give up early. In a college with hundreds of thousands, nearly a million students, it's almost impossible to be in the top 500." Luo said, "But... unfortunately, I have this goal, so I have to work twice as hard!"

"You? You're really persistent." Carol said, "Didn't you say that all your classmates from the same year passed the exam except you? Do you really think you can get in with your abilities?"

"Sure, so what?" Luo looked at him indifferently, "I will do what I decide, even if it means risking my life!"

"Ha! What a cool guy." Carol was unimpressed.

Wen, who had been holding back, suddenly slammed the table and shouted, "Alright, I've decided. I will enter the Great Blue Crystal Tower in my lifetime!"

Carol covered her face, "Idiot, here we go again."
