Chapter 34: The Confrontation with the Flame Serpent, Fire Element Ineffective

10 min read2,481 words

Sophina clung to the gun handle, hanging in mid-air, as the blood from the Flame Serpent's jaw dripped continuously onto her. She knew that apart from the Magic Beast Forest of the Ten Forbidden Areas, where such powerful creatures could be found, they occasionally appeared in other places, but the tranquil Illusionary Beast Garden had never seen such a magic beast.

The other two heads of the three-headed Flame Serpent also rose from the shrubs, the intense pain enraging it. Four sharp eyes on both sides stared intently at the person who had wounded it.

This Flame Serpent was not particularly large, each head being only a little over a meter wide. Looking down, Sophina saw that the snake's body, where the three heads joined, was about two meters thick. She inwardly thought it was a bad situation. It wasn't that she couldn't handle the three-headed Flame Serpent, a fierce magic beast, but ensuring the safety of the students was a challenge.

Sophina shouted to the students not far below: "You must leave here quickly, it's very dangerous..." Before she could finish, two waves of flames surged out and engulfed her.

"Sophina Teacher!"

Irina and Conelia watched in horror, while Vain and Lo's veins bulged, and tears involuntarily streamed down their faces.

Carole also exclaimed in shock, then suddenly realized something and said, "What are you doing? Sophina Teacher is a Fire Mage."

Everyone was taken aback: "That's right!" They all laughed.

Sophina fell from the flames and crouched on the ground, completely unharmed, not even a hair or a piece of clothing was singed. As a Mage, she had undergone a qualitative transformation, advancing from a High Mage to a True Mage, with a significant change in power.

The advancement of Mages is similar to that of early-stage Mages, starting from a Magic Apprentice to a Novice Mage. From the Novice Mage stage, one must learn to guide natural elements into their body and integrate them. Only after completely altering the body's nature is one considered a True Mage.

Before becoming a True Mage, Mages are relatively weaker compared to Mages of the same level, but once they overcome the challenge of completely changing their body's nature, their power becomes incomparably strong. Attacks of the same attribute will be completely ineffective, and they will also possess more powerful special abilities.

Although Mages primarily use magic, they do not need to practice the transition from verbal incantations to mental incantations and finally to spontaneous mental commands, which is a challenge for Mages. Once they reach the True Mage stage, these issues are no longer a problem. However, most Mages still need to learn the transition from verbal to mental incantations in the early stages because they have not fully elementized their bodies.

Mages can be considered the most leisurely profession, as the integration of elements with the body primarily requires time and control, with little else to learn. Apart from mastering a single type of magic skill, they do not need to learn other magic like Mages; they only need to understand it, which is also a requirement for other professions. Mages often practice martial skills to compensate for the significant weakness of their single attribute, hence they are also called Mage Warriors.

Sophina, being a True Fire Mage, naturally had no fear of fire. Her clothes were also made from special materials; otherwise, each use of her magic would have left her naked.

The metal knight's spear embedded in the serpent's jaw had melted, leaving only a small part.

Sophina thought it was not good. While using fire against fire would not harm her, the layer of scales on the three-headed Flame Serpent was also fire-resistant. She had a set of scale armor made from the same material, and using fire magic would not damage it.

The three-headed Flame Serpent roared in anger again. The spearhead in the middle snake's mouth made it very uncomfortable. It used the right head to pull out the spearhead and the left head to spray flames at the person who had injured it.

Seeing that her students had moved far away, Sophina charged into the flames and punched the upper jaw inside the snake's mouth. She crouched inside and tried to stand up, using both hands to pry open the snake's mouth, hoping to split it. However, she had forgotten that a snake's lower jaw is not connected to its skull but is held together by muscles and tendons.

The middle snake's head, now free from pain, opened its mouth to bite her. Sophina had to dodge repeatedly, jumping from one head to another to avoid its attacks.

Vain and the others watched in fear from a distance. The three snake heads were very agile, and their attacks were extremely fast. They saw their teacher almost being bitten several times.

Apart from dodging, Sophina also counterattacked with punches, but she was not a warrior, and her direct strength was limited. She could only make the snake's head shake, unable to quickly inflict substantial damage on the three-headed Flame Serpent.

Conelia saw the giant sword in Vain's hand and said, "Your sword, quickly throw your sword to the teacher."

Vain, too excited, had forgotten about the sword in his hand. He hit himself and rushed forward, throwing the sword to Sophina, shouting, "Teacher, catch the sword!"

Sophina shouted, "Go back!" But before she could finish, a column of fire shot past her, heading straight for Vain.

Vain was terrified. In an instant, the heat wave reached him, his hair began to curl, and he was about to be engulfed in flames. Suddenly, a coolness appeared in front of him, and an ice wall blocked the lethal flames. Vain collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath, drenched in sweat. He looked back and saw Ice Zhe, saying, "Thank... thank you!"

The others were also scared stiff. Seeing that Vain was safe, they quickly urged him to come back. Conelia sobbed and apologized to him.

Seeing that Vain was safe, Sophina breathed a sigh of relief and quickly jumped down to pick up the sword Vain had thrown. She had not expected to encounter a three-headed Flame Serpent and had not brought her weapon. However, before she could land, the ground exploded, and a mix of lava, rocks, sand, and fragments of the giant sword rushed towards her.

Magic Lava Flow, a combination of Fire and Earth magic. The eyes of the middle head of the three-headed Flame Serpent were glowing red.

Sophina dodged the lava, but she was more concerned about the students. Looking up, she saw that lava had also exploded behind a distant tree. Fortunately, Ice Zhe had already used a Wind magic to carry them to safety.

Irina's face turned green with fear. A lava explosion had just occurred in front of her, and if not for the ice wall, she would have been dead. She worriedly looked into the distance and said, "The three-headed Flame Serpent is so powerful. I wonder if the teacher can defeat it."

Sophina completely ignored the three-headed Flame Serpent's attacks and shouted at them, "Don't stay here, go hide a kilometer away."

Lo was shocked, "A kilometer away? The three-headed Flame Serpent's attacks can reach that far?!"

Ice Zhe, hearing Sophina's words, quickly used wind elements to fly away.

Vain exclaimed, "Wow, so fast!"

Sophina and the three-headed Flame Serpent fought for a few minutes. Suddenly, a flash of light appeared between her fingers, and 17 pale green, 30-centimeter-thick Flame Serpents spiraled out from around her body, heading straight for the three-headed Flame Serpent.

Ice Zhe and the others landed behind a large rock or a small rock mountain. He told them, "Don't leave this rock, and don't stick your heads out."

"Why..." Vain's words were cut off as he felt the temperature around him suddenly rise. Before he could say it was hot, the temperature dropped again, but a terrifying sight made them all gape in shock.

The 17 Flame Serpents' magic had attracted the three-headed Flame Serpent, diverting all its attacks. Sophina stood aside for a moment and said, "Mixed-element fire magic indeed cannot harm you. But, you've made me angry!" Her eyes, sharp like blades, glared at the three-headed Flame Serpent, and she slowly undid her clothing.
