The Luckiest Man Alive
[ Dating an Idol Star vs. Getting Paid 500,000,000 won ]
A post caught Sihwang’s eye, who was casually sitting down and surfing the web.
To imagine dating an idol star was enough to lighten up the day.
People would stare with jealousy, just by holding her hand and walking on the streets. He would be the happiest man on Earth.
“Man…….”
Sihwang’s heart beat faster just by imagining it.
However, the other option was about as tempting. All he had left in his checking account was 80,000 won and has to wait another twenty days to get his monthly check. Sihwang received 200,000 won a month from his parents and was just enough to cover basic living needs. Having 100,000,000 won in his hands was more than enough to get a smartphone, the latest PC upgrades, and to escape this shabby studio room of his.
With a bunch of thoughts, Sihwang clicked on the post.
Numerous comments made this a tight contest, even people were arguing over this topic.
[ You’ve got to be kidding me. Is this really something to argue about? LOL, you guys are useless. ]
The last comment of the post made Sihwang feel dumb that he was even taking the post seriously.
“Yeah…. Only nerds would take this seriously. It’s not like its gonna actually happen.”
Sihwang moaned as he checked the time. It was already past 3 AM. As he lied down to sleep, he felt miserable about his life.
“So much for hopes and dreams….”
The room turned silent as the whirring sound of the computer stopped as it completely shut down.
Sihwang returned to the private university located on the countryside as soon as he was released from serving two years in the Korean army. But the tuition of 3,000,000 won per semester was already a burden for Sihwang’s parents who were already going through manual labor for a living, so he had no choice but to rely on student loans. That ended up leaving him a debt of 20,000,000 won already.
But there were other things to worry about. Even though it was his graduating year in school, he has never taken a TOEIC test, and his GPA was lower than 3.0. Not also having a solid plan for the future, all he did after school was to sit in front of his computer, playing video games or surfing the Internet. Sihwang had no particular skills, not from a wealthy family, with no TOEIC certificate. Plus this school was his safety school which he had initially planned to attend a prestigious school and failed to do so. Already 26 years old, but his future was darker than midnight.
It was already a month after the first semester of Sihwang’s senior year, but he already started ditching classes. Senioritis has hit him real hard.
Sihwang headed to the Internet cafe early afternoon to play The Legendary League. The game cued quickly, with five allies and five opponents preparing for battle by selecting their champions. Carefully considering the team composition, Sihwang chose the small girl who used flame magic.
The match started, and Sihwang stayed focused. As his parents would say, if only he had studied like this, he would have gone to an elite university with no doubt.
Sihwang kept miscalculating his moves, and because of that, his teammate kept on being eliminated. Because of the mistakes, the teammates started to call out on him.
[ wtf are you doing? why are you charging in alone? ]
[ you suck dude, just uninstall the game ]
Sihwang got upset, but he couldn’t talk back. He knew it was his fault, after all. But the teammates were not helping either. Sihwang decided to throw the game by intentionally dying in the game.
[ oops, I keep on dying. Sry. ]
Sihwang apologized to his teammates as if he kept on being eliminated by mistake. The teammates were raging. Let them rage, they didn’t deserve to win anyway.
Shortly after, the game ended with a big DEFEAT flashing on the screen.
Rank 833.
If pro-gamers played this game, their ranks would be over 2200. Typical players would rank around 1200, but Sihwang ended up just barely passing 800 points.
Nope, this man was not a skilled gamer, either.
They say that all human are born with at least one exceptional skill, but that didn’t seem like the case with Sihwang now.
“Fuck it, I’m going home.”
The small studio’s rent he lived in was only 250,000 won per month, but the room was just around that value. There was no TV, nor fridge. There were a single bed and a desk, but it was so cramped that those were the only furniture that fit the whole room.
Sihwang threw his bag to the corner, pushed the power button of his PC with his toe while changing his clothes. He looked atrocious, with the collar of his shirt stretched, and his pants were all bagged at the knees. He didn’t have a great sense of fashion at all. His old jeans were all washed out, and his shirts all wrinkled, and the timid personality of his was not helping him on getting a healthy social life.
As the PC turned on, Sihwang poured himself a glass of Coke and started surfing the Internet like last night. He skimmed on webtoons, read articles relating on IT stuff, and bounced around websites that amused him. He had all the time in the world.
All of this precious time of his was going down the drain.
“Are you sure about this?”
A man with long, blond hair that reached his waist said weakly, to the man sitting on a chair.
“Toleman, there is no turning back. This was already destined.”
Toleman stared at the blond man with a stern face, then turned his head towards the window. Outside, there was a giant planet on the sky, easily visible with the bare eye. It seemed at least ten times larger than the Moon observed from Earth. It was very mystical, hard to look away.
“Kezron, we know nothing of this human being. How can we trust him? What if he doesn’t follow our intention?”
“That will not be the case…. Cough.”
The ill man sitting on a chair named Kezron continued to cough for a while, then smiled weakly.
“No, we will never know. If he takes over everything, he will surely act according to his ambition.”
“Of course I know. That is why I have planned some backup. Aren’t you excited? The only one in the universe will be able to have it all!”
Kezron burst into laughter, shining his big white teeth.
“I will look after the chosen one, and if he dares to try anything funny, I shall deal with him immediately. How does that sound?”
“You are more than welcome to. Ha! Do you have an idea of who would be the luckiest man in the whole universe?”
“Since planet Larac has a population of trillions, wouldn’t a being from there most like be the lucky winner?”
“Hmph, we shall see.”
