Tears silently slid down.
In the room where Levi had left, a blonde girl lying on the white bedsheet, a glistening pearl, slipped from her tightly closed eyes, moistening the soft strands of hair by her ear.
Eve slowly opened her eyes, those ruby eyes shimmering with ripples, reflecting what kind of emotion? Confusion? No, the golden darkness that had traversed countless battlefields in the universe had never shown confusion.
Indeed, it was a firm resolve, a determination to set a goal and never give up the pursuit.
The girl got up from the bed and searched the room for the vanished presence. She walked to the wall, opened the door leading to the corridor, and leaned against the doorframe, casting her gaze toward the wooden door not far away, identical to the one beside her. Without doubt, without confusion, Eve’s face greeted the morning sun, radiating a glow of happiness.
“Who!?”
The vigilance of the cosmic assassin never wavered, just like her unwavering determination toward her target. The subtle sound of footsteps on the floor behind her made Eve instantly suppress her emotions.
As she turned to ask, she didn’t really expect an answer. Her long golden hair whipped backward like a whip, transforming into a chilling blade midway.
The other party’s reaction was not much slower. By the time Eve finally turned around, she only saw a thin black object quickly disappearing out the window.
—She missed!
Feeling no physical contact from her hair, Eve didn’t have time to think much. She followed the open window at the end of the corridor and jumped out of the small house.
Having cultivated excellent tracking skills over long-term work, Eve, with the special abilities granted by the Holy Grail to the Assassin class, was an even more formidable killer. She tightly grasped the opponent’s presence, continuously increasing her speed to apply pressure and control the distance ahead.
Under normal circumstances, by the time the opponent realized they had been forced into a desolate area, they would be compelled to fight in isolation. This was the method used by the assassin known as the Golden Darkness, ensuring the completion of the mission with minimal interference and without worrying about collateral damage. Eve had always adhered to this action mode, which many of her peers considered a waste of fleeting opportunities.
Time passed, and the trees on either side of Eve flew backward more and more. She had moved far enough from the small house that even a telescope couldn’t clearly see her.
It was time! Confirming the vague figure ahead with her eyes, she suddenly exerted force with both feet, leaping into the air, and then unfolded her white wings. No longer needing to worry about the trees blocking her path, Eve quickly caught up with the fleeing rat from the sky.
“Ah!”
During the full-speed sprint, the pursuer suddenly appeared ahead. The fleeing person hastily stopped, almost colliding with a branch extending horizontally.
“Momo. Beria. Debriluck.”
Eve’s face, which had been full of warmth, was now completely replaced by the usual coldness. She calmly called out the name of the fleeing person, who, despite showing no trace of killing intent, still made people feel a sense of fear.
“Miss Eve, good morning.”
The moment Eve called out her name, the cute girl with short pink hair had many thoughts flash through her mind.
She had deliberately omitted her full name during the introduction, and it seemed that Eve had recognized her from the start. Momo hadn’t expected to encounter such a famous figure on this remote, unknown planet. This wasn’t a miscalculation on her part, just a matter of luck.
But it seemed that fate wasn’t too cruel to her. Maybe things weren’t that bad.
“Ruler of the galaxy, third in line to the throne of the Debriluck Kingdom, state your purpose.”
The smile the girl had deliberately put on had no effect on Eve, who still maintained her cold expression, as if the emotion control system had been accidentally removed by a modifier.
“Oh, purpose? That’s a bit serious, isn’t it? Didn’t Mr. Levi tell you? I was saved by him when I had an accident. Do you think all of this was part of my plan? I’m just an ordinary girl who rarely leaves home. Those kinds of plots and schemes should be easily dismissed from a professional’s perspective, right? I’m more curious about why you’re here, Golden Darkness.”
While seemingly putting effort into her explanation, Momo quietly moved backward, maintaining a safe distance. Although the two had been out of reach from the start, the attack range of the girl in front of her couldn’t be judged by the length of her arms alone.
At the end of her speech, Momo deliberately pointed out the other party’s true identity. Just this meaningless act alone showed that she was still a young, rebellious girl.
“Momo. Beria. Debriluck, state your purpose.”
It was proven that Momo’s judgment was correct. Her words couldn’t even buy time. As soon as she finished speaking, the golden strands of hair were already pointing at her like steel needles, with her back against the tree.
What sound should be made when steel needles pierce wood? Those who have watched dart competitions can mostly imagine it. But the girl standing close by didn’t hear that sound.
Facing a rain of steel needles, the thick tree trunk offered no resistance. In the next moment, it turned into a cloud of wood chips, the sound of breaking simplified to the point where it left no impression.
Momo, who was fortunate to have moved back in time, had no time to care about the shattered tree, even though she loved plants the most.
The hem of her dress, which didn’t move with her body, was suddenly shortened. Fortunately, she was wearing a puffy short skirt underneath, so she didn’t reveal anything. The girl should be grateful for the speed of Eve’s attack; otherwise, if the hem had been caught instead of broken, it would have caused her even more trouble.
The average human has about 100,000 hairs. Imagine 100,000 bullets flying from all directions; that’s the kind of overwhelming force.
Dodging with all her might, without even a moment to breathe, Momo should be grateful for the battlefield Eve had chosen for her. The dense, towering trees provided her with gaps to survive amidst the hail of bullets. If this battle had taken place in an open arena with no obstacles, Momo would have met a tragic end with the first wave of attacks.
Now, relying on the opportunities created by nature, the girl darted through the rain of bullets like a light swallow facing a storm.
The seemingly dominant blonde assassin was as surprised as Momo, who had been caught off guard by the ambush. She believed that her all-encompassing attack, even with some gaps created by obstacles, should still yield good results.
But the reality was far from what she had imagined. The short-haired girl, who seemed to be in constant danger, managed to nimbly turn at the most critical moments, making all the attacks aimed at vital points miss. After a minute, apart from the tattered state of her clothes, Eve couldn’t find even a minor scratch on her opponent.
Putting herself in the other’s position, Eve admitted she couldn’t have been as composed. The ease with which the girl moved through the storm reminded her of Levi.
—Momo. Beria. Debriluck, I must remember her!
