"Should be fine now."
The girl knelt in front of the door, staring at the crack and muttering to herself. The narrow gap, which could only hide dust and dirt, was now completely blocked. This was the work the girl had spent over ten minutes on—stacking several sheets of printed paper to fill the gap. The bedsheet, her first choice, turned out to be too soft to fit into the narrow crack, but fortunately, the unopened printed paper in the desk drawer solved her problem.
Lowering her head, her black, lustrous hair spread out like a waterfall on the floor. The girl almost pressed her face to the ground, checking the condition of the gap with her eyes. After confirming it met her standards, she stood up. Fortunately, the floor was cleaned daily by a dedicated maid, so her enviable black hair did not get dusty.
Satisfied with her work, the girl turned around, pulled the curtains shut, and then walked to the desk and sat down. The spacious room, being a guest room used temporarily, was relatively simple in its furnishings. There was a bed, a wardrobe, a desk with three drawers, and a matching chair, and nothing else, making it quite minimalist and clean.
Half an hour ago, the desk had been empty, but now it held a device that looked like a TV. In reality, it was a multi-interface monitor that could connect to various devices, though it couldn't be used as a real TV. Calling it a computer monitor would be a bit of an understatement.
Pressing the power button, a message indicating no signal input appeared in the middle of the black screen. After all that effort, she had forgotten the most important part. The girl stuck out her tongue and patted her head. If the people she had recently met saw her now, they would probably doubt their eyes. After all, her disguise was so successful that no one would ever imagine she had such a cute side.
Next to the desk, a large shopping bag leaned against the wall. The girl took out a cardboard box with the logo of a famous electronics brand. Inside the box was a black, professional-looking electronic device with a slight artistic flair.
One side was designed with a curved shape and a piano finish, while the other side was similar to other electronic devices, with a product label. The side had gill-like heat vents. The girl placed the black box on the desk next to the monitor, with the labeled side down.
Reaching into the bag, she pulled out a transparent cable. Most electronic devices come with their own cables, and this one was no exception. However, the included cables only serve the basic function, and to get the best experience, you need to buy a better one.
The first two generations came with suitable cables. Cursing the recent trend of greedy merchants in her mind, the girl used the black dual-headed cable she bought to connect the device to the monitor.
She couldn't forget the power supply.
The room had only one wall socket, which was clearly insufficient. The girl had anticipated this and bought a multi-socket adapter while shopping.
Plugging in the power cable of the black box and pressing the power button, she waited for the red indicator light to turn off and the green one to light up. Then she inserted the prepared disc into the optical drive. The auto-loading design, though new to her, was not surprising since she had seen it on TV and in magazines.
Seeing the familiar text with a new icon style on the screen, the girl felt a sense of joy. It had only been a few days since she left home, but it felt like a long time since she had seen it.
The new system interface was indeed novel, but the girl wasn't paying attention. She suddenly felt something was missing.
What was it? Turning her head to look at the bag on the floor, she found what she needed inside.
The monitor she bought required an external audio output, which she had specifically chosen. Of course, it was to avoid making noise. The clock on the wall pointed to midnight, and she didn't want to wake anyone. This was when the headphones came in handy.
Finally, everything was ready. Pressing the button on the controller, the girl held her breath and carefully admired the beautiful interplay of light and shadow on the screen.
At that moment, something with a temperature similar to a human's touched her shoulder.
"Ah... um!"
Completely absorbed in the screen and with her hearing blocked by the headphones, the girl was startled by the sudden touch. She almost screamed but remembered her initial intention not to disturb others, so she covered her open mouth with her hands. This, however, affected her balance. Her body, already trembling and leaning due to the shock, fell backward.
Just as the girl closed her eyes, preparing to hit the ground, a warm breath came through the slatted back of the chair.
"Phew."
The girl heard a familiar voice as the connection to her headphones was broken.
"Levi?"
The girl, now sitting back in the chair, called out the name of the man behind her, who had provided the guest room.
"Uh, good evening, Hikari."
Levi, who had thought something had happened and decided to use teleportation to enter the room, was at a loss for how to react to the situation.
He could only blame his excellent vision. Even with the door gap sealed with paper, he could still see the flickering light. Considering Hikari's class as a Servant, Levi immediately thought of magic.
On the other hand, it was also Hikari's fault. A few days ago, Levi still trusted his ability to sense magic. Without any magical fluctuations, he would have judged it as safe. But Hikari, the Caster-class Servant, stubbornly worked to enhance the concealment of her spells after being exposed by Levi. As a result, without sensing any magical fluctuations, Levi rashly entered Hikari's room.
Levi, standing behind Hikari, felt extremely awkward. He thought there was a special situation, so Hikari was casting a spell in the room. But what did he see when he entered?
A monitor on the desk, a PlayStation 3 next to it, and a black-haired Servant holding a controller and staring at the screen.
—This is terrible.
Looking at the closed curtains and the door gap sealed with paper, it was clear the girl didn't want anyone to know what she was doing. What should he do? Pretend he didn't see anything and leave?
Although what she was doing was extremely out of character for her, to the point of being unbelievable and even absurd, Levi didn't think there was anything wrong with it. Many girls enjoy playing games, and the vampire progenitor who locked him out of her room was one of them.
Levi had no prejudice against women playing games, but it was clear that Hikari, the one involved, didn't feel the same way.
Seeing the girl's trembling body, to prevent the situation from worsening, Levi decided to say something. He had to say something to protect his and Evi's cottage!
