"Looks like I'm just in time. I have nothing to do tonight anyway, let's play together."
With no other choice, Levi had to pretend he didn't care. If he had asked what she was doing, it would surely have made the girl blush. And the commotion a blushing Servant could cause was something Levi didn't dare to imagine. He certainly didn't want to wake up the next morning to find that Evi, whose anger had just subsided, discovered that her home needed major repairs.
"Hmm?"
The poorly improvised lines, forced by the situation, seemed to have some effect. Upon hearing his words, the girl raised her head in confusion.
In fact, Levi had only guessed half right. The obviously fake dialogue could never have convinced Kaguya. However, it successfully brought her back from the brink of a mental breakdown.
Regaining her composure, she thought along the same lines as Levi. Since the secret had already been discovered, there was no point in hiding it anymore. If so, the only option was to pretend it didn't matter and indirectly make the secret public. At least this way, she wouldn't feel as embarrassed. Sometimes self-deception was a good method.
Kaguya, having slightly adjusted her mindset, still had a flushed face, but at least her brain wasn't boiling anymore. She maintained her posture of staring at the screen, pretending to be a bit surprised by Levi's appearance but not letting it affect her mood.
"Aren't you going to sleep?"
Her cool voice sounded a bit unnatural, and the usual coldness was long gone. Levi found her voice, which was already beautiful, even more appealing in this tone. But he didn't plan to say it out loud.
"No, I took a nap at school during the day, so I'm not sleepy now. I was just wondering how to pass the time, but it's great that you're not sleeping either."
Compared to the girl's mediocre acting, Levi was like an Oscar-winning actor. His casual and relaxed tone made it impossible to associate him with the unfortunate man who had been locked out by his wife.
"Oh."
Faced with Levi's natural performance, Kaguya wanted to mimic him but found it difficult in practice.
The girl, who had always been surrounded by servants and subordinates, had never needed to learn how to lie. She had seen many methods of concealing oneself, but how could theoretical knowledge compare to Levi's rich practical experience?
Fortunately, Kaguya hadn't lost her innate quick-wittedness. She changed her mind and decided to speak as little as possible, using a calm attitude to cover her concern. After all, this was something she was already very familiar with.
However, having someone to keep her company was a good thing. From the observations over the past few days, this man seemed capable of keeping secrets. Kaguya bent down and pulled out another controller and a game from the bag. If they were to play together, they needed a different game.
The room had only one chair, and Levi felt uncomfortable sitting on the girl's bed. Especially since he hadn't even changed his clothes and had been running around for a few hours, he was at least dusty if not dirty.
Levi took the controller Kaguya handed him and sat on the floor next to her. Most modern electronic devices were wireless, which was a good thing. If they still had long cables, his current position would likely have pulled the console down if he got too excited.
The decision to use headphones for confidentiality was a bit troublesome now. Kaguya thought for a moment and found a solution.
She hung the headphones on the armrest of the chair and turned the volume up to the maximum. The intense music reached both of their ears, and the girl was satisfied with the high-powered equipment she had carefully selected. Fortunately, she hadn't bought a smaller one for portability.
Kaguya inserted a fighting game, which was a genre Levi was relatively familiar with, though only relatively. Both were playing the game for the first time, so there was no significant difference in skill, and they spent several rounds pressing buttons randomly.
To be honest, Levi didn't find much enjoyment in the game. Gaming was not his hobby. If it weren't for the vampire sealed at home who couldn't travel far, he might have never touched a game in his life.
Leaving aside Levi's feelings, Kaguya, who had been sitting in the chair and hadn't shown her face yet, seemed very satisfied with the situation. The courtly girl in her traditional attire happily pressed the buttons in her hand, occasionally moving her body with the game characters.
Compared to the game itself, Levi found the contrast in the girl's behavior more interesting. Before this, he had never imagined that the cold and aloof black-haired Servant had such a unique side.
Time flew by in the enjoyable game, at least for Kaguya.
It was three in the morning, and Levi had switched from sitting to lying on the floor. He had long put the controller back on the table. For one, he wasn't very interested in the game, and for another, sitting on the floor and looking up at the screen was a bit awkward, causing neck pain after a while. Since the game Kaguya wanted to play next was a single-player RPG, Levi naturally stepped out of the player role and became a spectator.
Watching someone else play a game was a bit silly for most people, but Levi found it easy. Before the girls arrived, he and Evi often sat on the living room sofa with a similar division of labor. Except that Levi usually had to lend his lap as a pillow, and now working with Kaguya was even less demanding.
"Go to sleep if you're sleepy."
Hearing the voice by his ear, Levi realized he was almost dozing off. Looking at the wall clock, he had been in the room for nearly four hours.
A plot-driven RPG with beautiful graphics could be enjoyed like a movie, but Levi hadn't heard of many movies that could match the length of a game. Staying in a cinema for four hours would make most people tired, let alone at a time when the body needed sleep.
"I am a bit sleepy. What about you?"
Rubbing his eyes, Levi felt a bit embarrassed as he looked at Kaguya. He had intruded and disturbed her, and now he probably ruined her mood for playing the game.
"Servants don't need to sleep."
That's right, he almost forgot. Levi remembered the information he had read from Rin's materials.
Regardless of the past, as a Servant, all they needed was the magic power provided by their Master. In other words, all their physiological activities, such as eating and sleeping, could be replaced by replenishing magic power.
Of course, they could still replenish magic power through food and sleep, but only when the Master couldn't provide enough support. With a genius magician like Rin as her Master, Kaguya didn't need to waste time sleeping.
As for whether playing games was a waste of time... usually, Servants sacrificed sleep to remain alert at all times. But was Kaguya, who was fully immersed in the virtual world, still aware of external dangers?
Fortunately, there was Evi. Levi originally thought that Caster was the most suitable class for defending a base, but now he felt that a Servant was still better.
"I have to work tomorrow, so I'll go rest."
Levi quietly opened the door and bid farewell to Kaguya in a low voice. It was still some time before sunrise, and he was afraid of waking the others who were still sound asleep in the house.
"Oh."
Kaguya never looked at Levi once, not knowing that her overly cold behavior had exposed her inner thoughts.
Levi, who had already stepped out of the door, turned back.
"Although I don't think it's a bad habit, I'll keep it a secret for you. Good night."
Creak...
The simple wooden door, decorated with a few lines, closed gently.
Just like when he returned home in the early morning, Levi, standing in the corridor, first glanced at the position of his room, then his gaze fell on the door opposite Kaguya's room.
Was his Servant resting well in bed? This was an unsolvable problem.
