Chapter 3 – River’s Magical Power…Amoeba’s Nest!
3 min read768 words
Today, I’m riding Soa’s back.
Along with her, I’m being accompanied by two of her pups.
Lately, whenever I try to travel around, they’ll compete on who’s going to carry me.
Is there a reason for this?
….I don’t know but I have to keep in mind that I’m not getting much exercise.
I don’t want to suddenly notice that I have a flabby stomach.
I rubbed my stomach to check its condition….it should still be fine.
The forest is still changing.
However, the ever extending river seems to have stopped.
Wherever I look in the forest, I can find rivers flowing.
I even found a new lake.
However, there’s something more interesting about the river.
The water in the river contains magical power.
I’ve noticed it recently and for some reason, the magical power of the water is similar to mine.
Why is that?
I thought about it a lot but I couldn’t come up with an answer.
I felt a little uneasy.
While checking the changes in the forest from above, I found a cave!
I’ve encountered a lot of things because of the caves.
Perhaps I’m feeling excited because of those encounters.
We might find another….no, I shouldn’t increase my expectations too much.
However, if ever we found something, I hope they are not those long guys with many legs that crawls on the ground.
Absolutely not them!
I stand at the entrance of the cave.
It gave me the impression of the caves I’ve entered before.
I don’t feel any strange magical power.
Soa leads the way into the cave.
Soa is in front of me and her two pups are behind me.
Again, they didn’t let me take the lead.
Apparently, I’m a strong mage but I don’t have much battle experience.
Perhaps that’s the reason.
I feel like all of my companions are overly worried about ;me.
Well, I don’t think I can handle a sudden attack from the shadows but….
I guess I can’t blame them for being worried.
….however, I don’t feel anything scary in the cave.
Is there a possibility of demon beasts living in this place?
We walked around for a while but all we can see is an ordinary cave with bare, rugged rocks.
As we walk deeper, I suddenly hear the sound of water.
This is something new.
I’ve been to a cave with a lake before but there’s no sound of water then.
I felt a little nervous.
As we walk further, the sound gets louder. Eventually, we found a large space with a lake.
And then….
「Is this an…amoeba’s nest?」
From a distance, I didn’t notice anything and thought it was just splashing water. However, when we approached the lake, I could confirm their existence.
Small amoebas were playing in the water.
They were small…around the size of my palm.
Given how their magical power feels, they should be water amoebas.
As I approached the lake, the amoebas moved deeper into the lake.
I put my hand on the lake for a moment.
It feels nice and cold.
The next thing I knew, there were already amoebas around my hand in the water….lots of them.
I have never seen so many amoebas in my entire life.
….I was scared.
They’re not doing anything to me but…looking at them….
I’m used to seeing big amoebas.
However, hundreds of small amoebas surrounding my hand is kind of scary!
I gently pull my hand out of the lake so I won’t irritate them.
A few of them were stuck on my hand.
…..what should I do with them?
I bring them before my eyes.
….I think they are cute if there are only three of them like this and not hundreds.
The amoebas of the lake are already rampaging.
I don’t want to see them like that.
….okay, let’s get out of this cave!
I tried to gently guide the amoebas that were stuck on my hand back to the lake.
I smile and wave to the amoebas in the lake and try to go as slowly as possible as I make my way out of the cave.
I don’t care if my smile is twitching or not.
I don’t care if I started walking a little fast.
I step out of the cave.
All the strength of my body was drained.
…that’s scary. I was honestly scared.
Each of them was small but thinking of their number….if all of them rampaged and got stuck in my hand, that would be bad!
I don’t like being inundated by small things!
