Chapter 5

The next mission is to explore five rooms.

In the previous mission, I went left from my private room to ensure its safety, so this time I will explore to the right.

As it turns out, the room to the right of my private room was an office with the same layout.

The closet was empty, and the bookshelf had the same lineup as in my private room.

If I consider this room as another private room, it suggests that there is another person in a similar position to mine.

However, there is no sign of anyone in this mansion, and there is no trace of anyone having been here.

Could the other person be brought here later?

Or perhaps I was brought here later, and the predecessor disappeared due to some issue.

Hmm, there’s no point in worrying about it.

Since there’s no clue to solve this problem, I will put it on hold and continue exploring to the right.

The next room was what could be described as an armory.

It was stocked with various firearms and ammunition, as well as anachronistic items like swords, shields, and spears.

There was also a maintenance table with various tools for maintaining these items.

The guns were real, the ammunition was live, and the bladed weapons were genuine.

I have no intention of using these, but the fact that they are prepared suggests that such a situation might arise.

Considering the existence of the armored suit as the mission reward, it seems that a frontal gun battle might become a reality.

I chose a lightweight and low-recoil firearm from among the firearms.

Using the appraisal skill, I could vaguely understand the characteristics of each weapon, which was helpful.

Ueno Gunma obtained the 26mm 5.7mm submachine gun and 4 magazines!

The 26mm submachine gun I chose is similar to the famous FN P90.

In fact, it’s a complete copy... no, an homage.

According to the manual, it not only looks similar but also has similar performance, with a 50-round magazine for 5.7x28mm caseless ammunition that is compatible with the P90.

It seems that the development technology is more advanced than the P90, achieving a lighter weight and reduced recoil, making it a groundbreaking masterpiece.

It is also widely adopted as standard equipment by police and special forces in Japan’s friendly countries.

The armory also had a wide variety of attachments for each firearm.

To make it easier to carry, I attached a sling to the 26mm submachine gun and decided to take a suppressor to reduce the noise during shooting.

This is because the gun becomes too long and difficult to handle with the suppressor attached.

I would have liked to practice shooting, but unfortunately, there are no such facilities.

Sadly, in an emergency, it will be a one-shot deal.

In such a situation, I will probably die.

I can imagine myself failing to remove the safety in time or being startled by the recoil and just spraying bullets.

Sadly, this is the reality for a novice.

That said, using swords or spears is out of the question.

Hand-to-hand combat is absolutely impossible; I would die.

I can easily imagine being cut by my own sword when I swing it.

It seems that I am not suited for combat.

By the way, what happened to the follower I received as a bonus?

I haven’t heard from them since.

Well, there were also strategic submarines, so there must be a designated place to receive them.

For now, I will continue exploring with the 26mm submachine gun on my back.

The next room was a toilet.

It was a men’s restroom with 4 urinals and 5 Western-style toilets.

The adjacent room was also a toilet.

It was a women’s restroom with 8 Western-style toilets.

Both were unused and looked brand new.

If the toilet paper in my private room runs out, I can replenish it from here.

Apart from toilet paper, there was nothing noteworthy.

And the fifth room, which completes the mission, is:

‘Keigo’

I activated ‘Keigo’ as usual, but as always, there was no reaction.

I gently opened the door, turned on the light switch near the door, and then closed the door.

‘Keigo’

This has become a routine during exploration.

Since I have no combat skills, I have no choice but to proceed cautiously.

It can’t be helped; I’m a coward.

After waiting for a while with no reaction, I gently opened the door and infiltrated the room.

A row of tables and what seemed to be a counter.

This is a dining room.

I ignored the cooking area behind the counter and thoroughly checked under the tables.

If something were hiding under the tables, my life would be in danger.

It’s better to be cautious.

After confirming that there was nothing under the tables except chairs, I moved on to explore the cooking area.

The cooking area was equipped with a full set of cooking utensils, including knives, frying pans, and pots.

If I can get ingredients, I can cook here.

The shelves and drawers contained a large number of dishes and various types of seasonings, all unused and unopened.

The large refrigerator was stocked with fresh vegetables, meat, and fish that had not been touched.

From the exploration results so far, it seems that I was the first to arrive here.

Considering the other office, the triple bunks, and this dining room, it seems that a considerable number of people will be brought here.

Based on the differences in living spaces, it is reasonable to assume that the person assigned to the other office and I will be in a leadership position for the triple bunks.

Considering the large number of firearms in the armory, it seems that we will be leading a large group in some kind of mock war.

However, there’s no point in worrying about it now.

From the contents of the rooms I have explored, it seems that this area is our living space.

So, perhaps the hostile presence I have been wary of doesn’t exist.

In other words, I have been needlessly afraid all this time.

Well, it can’t be helped; I’m human.

In any case, the mission is now complete, so I will check the terminal.

‘Mission [Swift Exploration] Success

Reward: 32nd Model General Armor 3rd Type is now available for pickup’

‘Mission [Reward Pickup]

Collect the reward left at the tool shop

Reward: 10,000 yen

Client: Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries of Japan, Yamamoto Hideki

Comment: It’s about time for a meal’

Alright, it’s time for dinner!

I could have cooked here, but I will eat the rations packed with care by the National Defense Force.

I returned to my private room and opened the lid of the ‘National Defense Force Combat Rations Ueno Special Set’.

Inside were plain white rice, chicken rice, crab rice, smoked sausages, and canned simmered offal.

There were also retort packs of sweet and sour pork, glazed chicken, meatballs, sukiyaki, and corn soup.

A retort pack of steak labeled as a special supply.

And the tools and dishes to heat them up.

This is the standard combat rations.

However, the spaces between and around these items were tightly packed with colorful packages of chocolates, waffles, and other sweets, as well as expensive canned fruits and medicines.

Thank you, my country, for your care.
