After breakfast, the three children gathered at the training grounds. There were a few shelves prepared on the grounds carrying all sorts of weapons. There were an astounding variety of weapons like daggers, swords, guns, and even rockets.
With his feet together and his arms behind him, lieutenant Ron gave off an intimidating aura as he smiled, revealing a row of white teeth, “I have to congratulate all of you, at least two of you will be able to survive sixty days. Let’s not waste time, from today onwards, we are adding new lessons. The first is combat training, I will be teaching you how to kill; and the other is Origin training, condensing Origin and creating even more Origin Vortexes, this will increase your chances of leaving the barracks.”
The children looked at each other.
Mao and Allen’s gazes were so heated that sparks seemed to fly in the air, but the last girl’s gaze shifted as she avoided the boys’.
“Alright, we will begin with combat training today. Before class, you can pick any weapon you like from the weapon rack.” Moving aside, he presented the weapons to the three children.
Allen had never seen so many weapons before, and he could feel himself becoming dizzy from the sight. The black boy raised his hand, “Lieutenant, I would like your advice.”
Ron replied with a low voice, “My advice is, listen to your own heart. Pick with your instincts, through this method, we can find your talent.”
And as Ron was speaking, Allen walked towards the weapons. He picked out a black steel dadao that was even bigger than himself. The weapon was a squarish shape and was as long as 150 centimetres, just the handle alone was about 30 centimetres long. It was a versatile weapon that could be welded with a single hand or both. The blade itself was as wide as 25cm, and it was as thick as 3cm. In total, it was about 50kg. (ps. Google Dadao)
For its size and thickness, it seemed impossible for a normal weapon to be this light, and it was obvious that the weapon had was created through a special method. On the black metallic blade, there was a dark red line on the two sides of the blade, but it wasn’t obvious if it was simply a decoration.
50kg was not light for a child, but after igniting his tinder, Allen was now a level one Origin user. According to the manual, every level would double the body’s strength. So this bit of weight was still okay for Allen.
As for why Allen picked it, it was because he saw a very dull light emitting from the dadao. That layer of light resembled a candle light in the wind, seemingly threatening to extinguish at any moment. But no matter how weak it was, it was the only weapon that shone amongst these weapons.
Afterwards, Mao and Mary both picked their own weapons.
The black boy picked a sniper gun, and he seemed to have fallen for this weapon, caressing it nonstop. Mary picked an automatic pistol, but looking at her expression, she seemed to have picked it randomly.
Seeing that the three children had picked their weapons, Ron waved his arms and had the weapon rack taken away by the soldiers. The lieutenant walked in the middle of Mao and Mary, “You’re both very smart. Even though the use of guns, especially gunpowder guns, are limited in high level combat, in the early stages, especially in the Survival games, guns have a certain advantage. For example, the sniper in Mao’s has a range of 1200 meters, with the right environment and skill, Mao could kill you both.”
Hearing lieutenant’s Ron’s opinion, Ron’s face glowed as he looked at Allen with a smug expression.
“As for you……” the lieutenant walked towards Allen, “You’re extremely stupid for picking such an unsuitable weapon for yourself. But at the same, you have a good eye……”
As he spoke, Ron walked back to his original position without explaining his previous words. Calling for two instructors, he told Mao and Mary, “Go with the instructors, they’ll teach you the basics of shooting.”
“White haired boy, you follow me.” Ron turned to Allen, “Because of the weapon you picked, I’m probably the only one who can teach you.”
Ron brought him to the same isolated room where they had ignited their tinders, and as Allen watched him closed the metal door, he felt confused at the lieutenant’s serious expression. After closing the door, Ron walked back towards Allen and gestured for him to hand over the dadao.
Taking the dadao into his hands, Ron caressed the cold blade with his fingers, “What a surprise, I was planning to use this big guy as teaching material for all of you, I didn’t expect for you to pick this. Hey, if Konov were to find out that his weapon was being used by some kid, he might jump out of his grave in anger……”
Stabbing the dadao into the ground, Ron grabbed the handle, “Listen well, kid. This blade belonged to one of my war friends, since you’ve chosen it, it is now yours. Konov called it Massacre, because he executed a tribe of Predators with a single slash each!”
Allen’s eyes widened as the speed of the flow in his Origin Vortex increased. In an instant, he fell in love with the blade named Massacre, simply because it had once enjoyed the blood of the Predators!
“Hey hey, don’t be so excited?” Ron looked at Allen in interest, “You’re so small and skinny yet so bloodthirsty, that’s good. But now, you’re far from capable of unlocking the full potential of Massacre, you can only use it as a normal weapon. You know why? Because it has an official name, it’s a first gear Demonic blade!”
“Demonic Blade?” Allen was a bit confused.
“It’s called demonic, simply because there’s a demon cube sequence inside of it. That’s right, it can use new energy. Once you’ve activated its sequence, Massacre would release another half a meter long blade created by energy. In battle, the additional half a meter reach would increase your attack’s effectiveness by 40%. And with the right user, this blade is basically omnipotent!”
Hearing this, Allen was excited to try it.
Watching his reaction, Ron was satisfied, but his next words killed that excitement almost immediately.
“But don’t forget, there is a term before this official name, first gear! According to the designers, it’s the strength of the origin from the first Gene Circuit. In layman terms, only those that had activated their first Gene Circuit could use Massacre. But if there’s a first gear, it meant that there’s second gear, third gear, and their limit also corresponded with the Gene Circuits. Theres a total of twenty gears for the demonic weapons.”
As he watched the excitement in Allen’s face died down, Ron smiled, “Demonic weapons were developed after the creation of the government, and passing down the technique of using demon cube energy to the military, they greatly increased the strength of the human army. Using sniper guns as an example, the one in Mao’s hands has a range of a kilometre. If it were a demonic gun, that distance would double and it’s damage would explode a human body with ease. If it was a demonic gun above ten gears, it had a range of more than five thousand meters, and a non-powered shot could take down a whole demonic ship.”
“But don’t be disheartened, when you’ve condensed your ninth origin vortex and formed your first Gene Circuit, you’ll be able to unlock Massacre’s true strength.” Picking up the dadao and throwing it towards Allen, he continued, “Before you’re able to activate Massacre’s Demon Cube sequence, I’ll teach you some basic combat techniques. Coupled with Massacre’s sharpness and weight, it’s enough for you to fight toe to toe with those two kids. “
Ron stared at the blade, “Massacre is a squarish Blade, so there’s no tip. It’s not suitable for piercing, so there’s only Crescent Moon.”
“Crescent Moon?” Allen was confused, “Is this a combat technique?”
“That’s right, it’s a leg technique. Aligning the heel to the waist and with the right balance, in theory, you’re able to execute a leg sweep from any angle. The name was coined due to the similarity of the leg’s swing with a crescent moon.” A serious expression appeared on his face as he continued, “Crescent Moon, along with other combat techniques are called Shida. Shida is the soul of all combat techniques, even the most famous fighters had to build their foundation on Shida to utilise the ability of their Engravings before they could create their own personal techniques.”
Lieutenant Ron then showed the leg technique called Crescent moon. Placing a steel dummy a suitable distance away from himself, he used one of his legs as support on the ground as he other swept from the ground, creating a sharp whistle as it tore past the dummy, dismembering it’s head. His actions were extremely clean, a simple combination of quick, precise and deadly.
“This is a single Crescent Moon, next, we can repeat the move consecutively…….” he repeated the same action, but as his leg came into contact with the dummy, he quickly shifted his support, and kicked both his legs outwards, creating a rain of attacks.
This shocked Allen as he analysed Ron’s movements, it was a simple leg sweep that was combined together to create a complicated combo of attacks. And as Ron kicked out his last attack, the entire dummy fell apart. If it was a human, this rain of attacks would have probably broken all of the bones in their body.
The repetition of the same movements from different angles while maintaining his balance was the skill to Crescent Moon that Ron was trying to show.
