The gathering location was on the top floor and when the doors of the opened, Allen and Hughton walked out. In the training hall, the children of the different districts had already gathered at the centre along with their Teachers who were giving them their last instructions.
“Baby Allen!” Tonisev, who had seen them from afar shrieked. He was wearing a military uniform today, a rare sight that seemed to look rather unnatural on him. Only after a while did Allen realise that he was wearing a female military uniform.
But before he could react, he was already in Tonisev’s arms. The lieutenant rubbed his face against his as he spoke, “This important day is finally here, Toto is going to miss you. But I believe that my baby will definitely win.”
Even though he was thankful for Tonisev’s faith, this guy was way too friendly. Allen could feel the urge of wanting to stab this guy rising, but it was thankfully stopped by Hughton, who pulled Tonisev aside. Pushing him forwards, he spoke to Allen, “Go.”
After nodding his head towards them, he turned towards the centre of the hall and stood next to Lucy.
Seeing that he was here, Lucy smiled, “Good luck!”
“You too.” Allen replied, and after a moment, he continued with a low voice, “Remember our signal.”
“Okay.”
After their short exchange, the floor beneath them started to tremble. Someone amongst them shouted, “Up there.”, and when Allen looked upwards, he could see the curved ceiling opening. The symmetric lines opened and turned upwards resembling the petals of a blooming lotus, allowing the bright rays of the sun to penetrate the building and forcing the children to squint their eyes.
Barely leaving a gap between his eyelids, he could see a small moon-shaped shadow in the sky, accompanied by the roars of the flying machine. When he was finally able to open his eyes, he could see the demonic ship at the top of the building, descending towards them.
This was Destiny, the transport ship prepared solely for the Death Ring. The ship was a crescent shape with three thrusters fitted on its inner curve, its smooth texture on the ship’s body had the engravings of Origin conductors, and at the bottom of the ship cabins were a row of launchers that would shoot each individual child out towards their destination.
As a transport ship, Destiny was not made without any firepower. If there were any attempts to sabotage the competition, or even any attacks towards Destiny, there were four cannons on each side of the ship’s front as well as a hidden ion cannon on the bottom of the ship’s cabin to handle the situation.
After descending to a certain distance, a platform lowered from the ship towards them, with six beams attached to it. And as it reached the centre of the training hall, the 22 children jumped onto it. The platform rose up and connected back with the ship, allowing the children to enter the inside of Destiny.
The children were led to a wide cabin area, and on the four sides of the cabin were a team of guards watching them. As they looked around, the automatic doors of the main room of the ship opened, allowing a fat man to walk inside. This man was almost identical with Lucen, his fats could be seen bursting through the buttons in his suit. The man cleared his throat as he revealed a TV celebrity smile, “Welcome, I am Alster, your guide and the person who will bring all of you to the competition venue of the Death Ring, the Yellowstone park at the south of Babylon. Of course, because of the space limit on Babylon, our Yellowstone park cannot be compared to the United States’s Yellowstone National park.”
He gave the children a simple introduction, the Yellowstone park on Babylon was only 800km², but it was still a considerably large area. There were plenty of shrunk national landmarks on Babylon, one was Liberty port, and the other was Yellowstone park.
The location of this Death Ring was similarly made with mountains, rivers and forests.
The terrain was complicated and filled with Dangers ranging from grade 1 to 5. Other than the threat of their competitors, the children had to watch out for Dangers that could pounce from anywhere, increasing the difficulty for these children and the entertainment value of the competition.
“The next is a few important things to note. Firstly, do not attempt to escape. We will keep a surveillance of the entire competition, if you even do so much as try, I will congratulate you on escaping death. But for the rest of your remaining life, you will live praying for death.” Alster spoke with a smile on his face, “Secondly, the time limit of this game is 15 days. If there is no winner by then, the organisers will guide the remaining contestants for a fight to the death. Therefore, I highly recommend for you to eliminate all of the other contestants before the time limit is up.”
Alster then explained the last two points, there was only one winner and surrendering was not accepted. Finishing what he had to say, he pointed at the children with a smile, “I would like to congratulate all of you, you lucky fellows. This year’s prizes are especially good, other than Babylon’s citizenship, money and weapons, we’ve added a few other prizes.”
The first was an upgrade in the weapon prizes, the previous winners only received a demonic weapon that corresponded with their level, but this time, they were giving away an entire set of Origin equipment. This meant that the winner would receive at least a set of demonic armor and weapon this time, and just the demonic armor alone had a value that was eons above the armor Allen was wearing.
Secondly, they added medicine to the rewards, something that had never been done in the history of the Death Ring. They would be able to choose between medicine to repair or strengthen their body. The former would be able to repair most injuries from their body, and the latter would strengthen, or even evolve the body past an entire level!
And the last change was still somewhat normal, it was simply the increase in monetary rewards for the winner. The original amount of fifty thousand federal coins was increased to two hundred thousand.
Hearing this, the gazed of the children became heated, and Allen was no exception. He was fully aware of what these rewards could do for him, he could at least exterminate the Predators that attacked his village as well as destroy the “Black Widow” hunting team and still have resources left.
“Alright, you have a bit of time before we arrive at our destination, have your free time.” Leaving this sentence behind, Alster left the cabin.
The children all sat in their small groups, and the alliances amongst these children were obvious now. Allen and Lucy sat together, after that day with Mike, only Emily still sat with Lucy while the other children stayed away.
Allen whispered, “Remember, we’ll be separated when we land. The first thing to do is to gather, as we wouldn’t know each other’s location, we must all head to the same direction and leave our signal to recognise……”
But as the three of them decided on the direction, a shadow suddenly loomed over Allen. Raising his head, Lucen’s fat face entered his vision, “Allen, you better pray that I wouldn’t find you. If not, I’ll definitely shove your head up my ass this time!”
“Don’t worry, I’ll tear off your ass before that.” Allen replied stubbornly.
The two boy’s gazes met in the air, causing sparks to fly in the air as their eyes became heated. Lucen was the first to break eye contact, leaving with an annoyed grunt. Looking around, Allen could see multiple hostile gazes aimed towards him.
When Destiny reached Yellowstone park, two steamships also rose from Babylon, each fitted with a large screen. The committee was planning on broadcasting the entire competition to the residents of Babylon. While the show hadn’t started, the male and female hosts were busy entertaining their viewers.
Horn was in his European style study, the classically lavish Rococo style made the room seem grandiose. But because of the heavy emotions of its owner, even with the 12 hanging crystal lights brightening the room, the atmosphere was still somewhat heavy.
Horn was seated on a black armchair, mindlessly spinning the Sardonyx ring on his thumb embellished with the symbol of the family’s head as he stared at the projection on his wall. In the screen, he could see the hosts introducing the 22 land children humorously, and as he watched, a knocking came from the door.
“Come in.” He spoke calmly.
The butler Haising was holding a wine plate, on top of it was a bottle of brandy as well as a wine glass. He gracefully placed the plate onto the desk before Horn, pouring a third of the Brandy before placing his hands behind his back, retreating three steps to Horn’s side.
“It’s starting, Hasing.” Horn spoke as he took a sip from the glass.
“Is the master worried for him?”
“Allen? I am a bit, but this is a test for him, if he couldn’t even survive the Death Ring, what qualifications would he have for the position of my successor and my grooming?” Horn spoke lightly.
Haising pretended to not hear him, there had always been conflict within the families, and among them, the worst was in the wealthy families. Haising was only a butler, and he wasn’t planning on getting involved.
Knowing his place, was the duty of a butler. As for who the next head was, it wasn’t important to Haising.
Or at least not now.
Finally, Destiny came into the view of the broadcast, they had arrived at Yellowstone park!
At that moment, Alster’s voice was broadcasted within the cabin, “Children, we are at Yellowstone park. Right now, there will be people guiding each of you to your own individual launchers. They will send all of you to your designated location. Lastly, I wish all of you best of luck.”
The doors to the cabin opened, and a team or soldiers entered. They called out the names of each child and led them away. When it came to Lucy, Allen grabbed her hand quickly, “See you on land.”
“Of course.” Lucy had a bright smile on her face.
