“It’s best if you don’t, I hope you’d regret it.” Mike spoke coldly as he flicked his left wrist, revealing a butterfly knife from his sleeves. Twisting the blade with his fingers, he eyed Allen, “How about letting me cut your face with this?”

Allen looked coldly back at him in silence, and his unbothered reaction was a complete insult to Mike as he felt a burning anger. His breathing was agitated as a breath of hot air escaped his mouth. Pouncing forwards, he slashed towards Allen’s face, he was planning on tearing apart his damned pretty face!

Allen’s pupils dilated as he watched Mike’s movements slow down, he could even break down the sight before him. Reaching his hand outwards, he grabbed the butterfly knife with a steel grip.

Mike was taken aback as he felt as though his knife had stabbed into a rock, it was stuck. Allen had a terrifyingly calm expression as blood poured out of his hand, and with his free hand, he reached to grab Mike’s other arm. Using his Origin, he shocked Mike’s arm, dislocating it.

Crippled, Mike stared at Allen in shock as Allen’s fist quickly landed on his face, causing his vision to go fuzzy. The brunt of the attack had sent him flying backwards onto the ground as bitter taste appeared in his mouth and a metallic smell of blood filled the air. His lips were split and bloodied, but this only fuelled his anger. But just before he could climb up again, the butterfly knife that was now in Allen’s hand stabbed downwards, piercing deeply into his palm.

“Ah……” Mike groaned in pain.

But a bloodied hand quickly covered his mouth as Allen sat on top of the boy. With his other hand clenched in a fist, he punched the boy’s stomach with all his might. This punch caused the boy’s body to curl upwards as his stomach cramped in an attempt to empty its contents, but his lips were held tightly shut by Allen.

The boy was incapacitated as one of his arms were dislocated while the other was nailed to the ground with the knife. Allen was like an emotionless robot as he continued raising his first and punching the boy heavily. Again and again, he slammed towards the boy’s stomach with precision and speed as well. The dull sound rang throughout the combat area, entering every spectating boys’ ears.

Their faces had all become extremely pale, and some of their legs were even shaking as they almost fell onto the ground.

On the other end of the training hall, the doors to the lift opened and Lucy and Emily walked out. Emily was pulling Lucy along as she spoke, “Just ignore Allen today and train your reflexes with me today.”

Lucy looked at her weirdly, “Emily, what’s with you today? You’ve been stopping me from coming to the training hall and now you want me to join you.”

“It’s only because the Death Ring is starting, I want to get stronger too.”

“Don’t worry too much.” Lucy patted her shoulder with a smile, “Your sister here will protect you.”

And just as she spoke, a scream came from the combat area, “Help, they’re murdering someone! Help!”

Hearing this voice, Emily’s face changed while Lucy already started running towards the direction of the scream. A crowd was already forming at the combat area, and Lucy had to squeeze into the crowd, pushing the spectating children to see Allen standing there. He slowly turned around, revealing a face and body full of blood that Mike had vomited onto him.

She then looked to the ground to see Mike laying there motionlessly, it was unclear whether or not he was alive.

“Allen, this……” Lucy’s eyes widened.

Allen tried to move his stiff lips, “He started it.”

A team of security guards pushed their way through the crowd and the head of security Smith was behind them this time as well. His eyes shifted between Allen and Mike, and he shook his head as he spoke, “What’s this?”

A boy next to them quickly regained his senses as he shrieked, “It’s Allen, he……”

But before he could finish his sentence, Smith had already slapped the boy with enough force to send him onto the ground. Wiping his hand with a handkerchief, he turned towards Allen, “I wasn’t asking you. Allen, speak.”

Allen then explained the gist of the entire situation and was allowed to leave, “You can go.” Smith nodded.

He then turned to the guards, “Throw this trash into the infirmary.”

Allen turned to walk towards Lucy, but as he tried to speak, he was quickly interrupted by Lucy, “Don’t say anything, I believe you.”

She then turned to Emily, who was behind her, “Emily, you kept stopping me from looking for Allen for this? So that Mike could lay his hands on him?”

“Lucy, I……” Emily shook her head, “Mike told me that he just wanted to teach Allen a lesson. I really didn’t know……”

“Enough!” She stared at the girl before sighing, “Never mind Mike, but how could you do such a thing too?”

“Let’s go.”

The girl pulled Allen away from the combat area, but just as they walked away, Allen noticed someone accidentally.

Ansi.

He was silently standing at the side, seemingly deep in thought. As if he had felt Allen’s gaze, he turned to look his way with a forced smile before leaving with his head down.

Returning to his room, Smith arrived even before Ansi could sit down. The head of security surveyed his room before turning back to the boy with a smile, “Mr. Ansi, there’s something interesting going on. Guess what item I found in Mr. Mike’s room? Hah, a vial of body strengthening medicine.”

“Is……is that so?” Ansi tried to calm himself, “So what?”

“So I flipped around in the reward list, and under Mr. Mike’s name, I couldn’t find any records of strengthening medicine. And something even more interesting happened……” Smith walked behind Ansi, “You wouldn’t know this, but to prevent any mistaken issuances, we usually have a marking on the rewards. The strange thing is, the marking showed that the owner of the strengthening medicine was you.”

“So, can you tell me, Mr. Ansi, why did your medicine appear in Mike’s room?”

“Maybe……he stole it.” Ansi had to squeeze out these words with all his strength.

“Is that so? I truly hope that the representative of the Alexander family will believe you.” Smith walked towards the door, but as he was about to leave, he stopped at the frame of the door and turned his head towards Ansi, “You’re very intelligent, truly. A smart person wouldn’t do their dirty deeds themselves, but you’re not simply clean enough. And in my opinion, a thing like Mike isn’t worth a vial of strengthening medicine.”

And only after Smith left did Ansi realise that his back was already covered in a layer of sweat.

And in the afternoon, the representative came.

And his first question when he entered was, “Why did you do it?”

“Because he’s too close with Lucy.” This time, Ansi didn’t plan on lying.

“Oh, so for a woman, you wasted the kindness of the Alexander family?”

“No, sir.” Ansi raised his head, his eyes meeting the man’s, “Before Maine’s interest in me, Allen and Lucy were both leading on the leaderboard with their unordinary strength, sir. And now, they seem to have become friends. The combination of these two people would pose a huge threat towards me in the Death Ring, so I decided to cripple Allen before the competition. This was a strategic move.”

Hearing this, the representative closed his eyes for a second before replying, “I believe you, and your judgement is correct. It is a pity that you’ve failed, and a failure is a failure, there are no excuses. You should know, Mr. Maine despises failures, and the Alexander family has a set of punishments to discipline failures like you.”

Ansi gritted his teeth, “I understand, sir, please punish me.”

“Very good, since this is your first failure, it will be a light punishment. Remember this, you won’t have a second chance.”

After he left, a man wearing a suit and sunglasses entered. He opened his black briefcase and retrieved a shiny whip.

On that night, Ansi had no choice but to collapse onto his bed, on his back were ten bloodied wounds accompanied by a strong feeling of shame.

“I’ll return this in double, Allen.” Lying in his bed, Ansi stressed every single word in the sentence.

Two days flew by in the blink of an eye, and finally, they welcomed the start of the Death Ring.

Allen woke up in the early morning at five, he carefully wore the light military armour he had received from the committee, it was extremely fitted to his body, and even after he wore the prepared uniform for every contestant, he could still move freely. Picking up Massacre from the side of the room, he silently left his room. To his surprise, Hughton had decided to appear at this timing, an extremely rare sight, and he was standing at the windows of the hall, staring at the sights of the slowly awakening city.

“What, were you not planning to say goodbye? This old man taught you for a whole month, and I don’t even get a goodbye?” Hughton turned around, he wasn’t holding a bottle either and his clothes were tidy today. Other than his usually red eyes, he seemed like a normal person.

“Mr. Hughton, I’m thankful for the guidance you’ve given me for the past month.” Allen spoke seriously, “If I am able to survive, I will treat you to a drink.”

“I like the sound of that.” A grin appeared on his face, “Get over here, while there’s still time, memorise this.”

Watching as Hughton took out a piece of paper covered in tiny words, Allen took it from his hands and asked, “What’s this?”

“The method to break your first barrier, in all honesty, it’s best if you don’t use it. I’ve already tried my best to reduce its damage to your heart, but if you use this in the Death Ring, it might bring you additional risks. No matter what, just memorise it now. After you’re done, burn this thing.” Hughton mumbled under his breath, “Origin Seals are nothing good, I don’t intend on getting involved with things like this.”

Despite his words, Allen was filled with gratefulness towards him. Taking the paper, he was able to ingrain every word into his brain with his memory before burning it immediately after.

After watching the paper turn into ashes, Hughton nodded, “Let’s go, I’ll follow you to the gathering location, Tonisev should be there as well.”

Squeezing Allen’s shoulder, Hughton spoke seriously, “Try your best to survive, kid.”
